Ken Wayne moving to KRON |
No word on which newscasts he'll anchor but underwhelming KRON could use a new face --especially in light of its recent decision to can Steve Aveson whose contract was not renewed and lasted barely a year and a half.
Wayne is not a fiery personality but his KTVU presence gives KRON a known Bay Area TV News journalist --something that can only help the independent albatross that needs a shot in the arm. Boy do they ever.
Wayne was working the last month without a contract; Fox-owned KTVU didn't want to renew Wayne for the money he was seeking (about $300K annually) --Wayne will be working for significantly less dough but he likes the Bay Area and was willing to take a pay cut to get the KRON gig. Yes, it's KRON but it's a job. That always helps to feed the family.

ReplyDeleteHOCK!!
great i for one will watch him on the weekends.he will help kron immensely. wtg vet Ken Wayne
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see Ken on KRON.
ReplyDeleteAt least he won't have cameras watching his every move. But he will have to suffer the fool Radnich. Lesser of two evils???
ReplyDeleteAll the cameras at KRON are broken.
DeleteI don't get it. IF he was asking for more money from KTVU and they didn't give him it, then why not just settle for less money at channel 2 then going to KRON and working for less money? That is assuming what you are reporting is true and that KRON is in fact paying him less. That said, good for KRON to land a known name.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's my question. I wonder if the gazillion cameras Rich has been reporting on and the general gestapo atmosphere at KTVU have something to do with it. If so, then wait till Wayne meets Herr Pero!
DeleteProlly because he is at THE DESK in San Francisco vs A desk in Oakland. Ken is top-shelf all the way, I wish him success in his new adventure.
DeleteKRON is the only station in the Bay Area that doesn't "embelish" the news. Just the other day, ABC7 reported a junk science story that had obvious religious fundamentalist overtones about alcoholic drinks that defied logic. KRON doesn't do that. They are trustworthy in reporting facts and it's appreciated.
DeleteSTUNNED! Things must be worse over at Fox than we thought.
ReplyDeleteI am laughing sooooo hard right now...
ReplyDeleteSo what the hell was accomplished with this whole "fire drill" thing?
All that just to end up at KRON?
It's it's own punchline.
Yo sure have a strange way of doing things.
Could be a slightly shorter commute.
ReplyDeleteThe news of Ken Wayne going to KRON is a great move...a nice chemistry between him and Pam Moore, Catherine Heenan or Vicki Liviakis...next for KRON is cut loose Darya and Radnich and bring in solid news anchors for weekday mornings...example Allie Rasmus...
ReplyDeleteThe more I think about it, the more I'm convinced it will be better for everyone involved. Good chemistry between Wayne, Moore, Heenan, and Liviakis. Maybe Radnich will shape up with an alpha male on board.
ReplyDeleteTo solve the camera problem, everybody should walk around naked. I'm sure nobody wants to see that especially the white pasty wrinkled old men naked. They could then get dressed for the broadcasts. I'm sure everybody walking around naked would put an end to the camera thing immediately.
Dr. Drew can barely get a word in on his own show.
ReplyDeleteThe woman who co-hosts with him bulldozes right over his faint mumbling. She ought to just get her own show.
When Dr. Drew does manage to speak to a caller, he tends to bulldoze over that caller. Especially if caller disagrees with him.
I love all the "general managers" of their rotisserie league radio and television stations. A couple of things from an old guy who spent almost 50 years in the business, doing stuff like hiring and firing, negotiating contracts and the like.
ReplyDeleteI imagine that Wayne's move to KRON is in the equal to close money range. Pero's involvement was most likely peripheral and the hiring and negotiating was done by the general manager. The GM likely sees Wayne as someone who can stabilize the shop and inject new energy into the newsroom.
If others at KRON or KTVU are "cut loose" it will be because their contracts were up, they decided to leave or the station didn't renew them.
AS for surveillance cameras, whether it is at Jack London Square, Battery and Broadway, or 900 Front Street, cameras are everywhere inside the buildings and outside the buildings and doesn't even scratch the surface from cameras that other buildings, the city and the state put up. It is a simple fact of life in today's world that you are on camera almost all the time.
It's what you do with the footage and how locked in you are with your counterparty.
DeleteThis is the end of Wayne's first contract with FOX's KTVU - a deleterious regime. He's felt the impact of it. He wanted out. KGO can't hire. KPIX is full. KNTV is too far and is fine as it is.
Ken will anchor KRON's 3AM Popeil Pocket Fisherman infomercial then prep for the 4AM KRON Reverse Mortgage Show. Radnich will host the infomercial for walk-in bath tubs for heavy people.
ReplyDeleteHopefully this is an attempt by KRON to step up its game. On the downside for me, I just switched to YouTube TV from a satellite provider, and YouTube TV doesn't carry KRON. I can't get it over the air, either, so if I want to watch KRON, which is rare, I have to do it on my computer.
ReplyDeleteI'd imagine Wayne isn't losing too much money, if any. Weekday anchoring likely pays a premium over weekend anchoring.
the problem with a Bentley is , when you see one you always think ' They can't afford a Rolls''. even an Expensive Bentley always seems ''Rolls Deficient''.
ReplyDeleteI watched KRON for a brief time last night... I finally saw a live shot with camera movement. Hopefully they abandon their MMJ format and hire photojournalists so the reporters can focus on better story telling...
ReplyDeleteAnd spend more money? Nope, won't happen.
DeleteEveryone piling on about going to KRON. Hey, he's employed, in the Bay Area.
DeleteWhat would YOU have done? Stay unemployed, pack up and move? Getting an Anchoring position isn't like getting a job at Starbucks, ya know!
Banished to the "Minor Leagues" that's something to be happy about?
ReplyDeleteWait. Catch us up on the jacket stealer.
ReplyDeleteWhy KRON 4? Demoting his long time hard work on a station draining downhill every year.
ReplyDeleteBecause, there was an opening.
DeleteKTVU still running Ken Wayne promos. Sloppy. Good stations like KGO would never do that-
ReplyDeleteKRON could use any help they can.
ReplyDeleteWhat if KTVU’s new pay offer to Ken was less than KRON was offering? Fox had really been aggressive in cutting pay and KRON needs a star.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering where he was. I wonder how much it will hurt KTVU. He was always solid, and I think it's a great gain for KRON.
ReplyDeleteHe didn't split KTVU, in order to go to KRON. He was shown the door from KTVU.
ReplyDeleteKRON was in search for a replacement of Steve Aveson.
So he signed with KRON.
Just wrote a long post and hit "sign out". Bottom line, I like Ken Wayne going to KRON. KTVU Fox2 is going down the tubes. I'm happy for Ken and I know he will be happier at KRON. Good move.
