I have criticized Wayne but overall I have always liked his work and consider his style an old-KTVU staple.
That style may clash with the Fox iteration of Channel 2 since its takeover in 2014. Yeah, Wayne seems a bit more sedate at times and it borders on antiseptic delivery but he also has a wry sense of humor and occasionally shows it when he does a toss. It may be Fox wants a bit mote sizzle and less steak.
Wayne was making around $300K in his old deal and might be facing a pay cut; significant too but what leverage does he hold? Little. On the other hand, he's a seasoned pro and is well-liked at the station.
Whether or not that counts with the big guy who sits in the big chair upstairs we'll have to wait and see.

Now does anyone think another local station is gonna pony up 300k ?
ReplyDeleteNot likely. TV news is dying, and it will continue to decline as idiots both left and right rely on their social media feeds to stay "informed." Their BFFs will continue to feed them the memes and urban myths they need to make it through the day, and they'll think they're educated and erudite because they drive a car with leather seats and know how to work an iPhone. Apple's "Lemmings" commercial is a very appropriate metaphor for what's going on today, and it was made 30 years ago.
DeletePay cuts for all?
ReplyDeleteWhy not just pipe in the signal from Stockten? These hi-brows don't need to make $300k.
Attention to all 415Media readers as revenues are down
I respect Ken Wayne. Does a good job at KTVU. Cool to hear his promos between D'Ohs. A shame that he has to be FOX-ified.
ReplyDeleteAmber Eikel, News Director at Fox2, dumb as a brick. She belongs in the kitchen, not in a position of power!
