FRIDAY RUNDOWN
Pam Moore has been conspicuously absent this week --her co-anchor, Steve Aveson's final day at KRON is tonight --and there's a reason. Many reasons.
Moore had no use for Aveson; she wasn't alone and she made it a point not to be at the desk for Aveson's farewell, that is if there's even any farewell to begin with.
As noted here, Aveson, in addition to being a cold piece of wonder bread on the air was not especially liked by a majority of people at KRON behind the scenes. He had a prickly attitude and was regarded as an ego maniac. His faux banter with Gary Radnich was about as genuine as a 7-11 in Beverly Hills. He had ZERO chemistry with most of the anchors in his short reign at the independent "news station."
Worse yet, he never connected to viewers. Virtually no one even knew who Steve Aveson was/is and that was among the biggest reasons why KRON chose not to renew his contract.
There's been no news of his replacement but whomever it is can't be any worse that he was. By the way, Vicki Liviakis has been filling in for Moore this week on KRON's 6, 8 and 10 PM News.
*Yeah, Jesse Gary is still at KTVU. I never said he wasn't. But take a look at this.
And this too. If you read the story I indicated that for someone who is working at a local TV News outlet, it's a little bizarre that he's not on the Fox2 roster and his other social media accounts were vague at best.
Bizarre.
*THIS STRANGE CITY: Earlier this week on a chilly night in North Beach at a rather dark bar late into the evening, a well-known local radio guy was sipping a martini with a brunette who was not his wife. I wasn't there; I got this from the bartender who said everything was nothing out of the ordinary until the two left the bar and headed outside before coming back about an hour later. He looked sort of overly mellow and her hair and lipstick, according to barkeep, was noticeably out of place.
I don't think they left the joint to exchange pasta recipes.
*Busy day at KTVU for things that have nothing to do with news. Trust me.
*I've said it before and I'm going to say it again: KGO-TV veteran anchor, Kristen Sze, is a hard-working, excellent anchor who gets some heat because she refuses to back down from a co-worker clearly out of bounds. Sze didn't get to her position of over twenty years for being a wuss --in other words she's earned her stripes and doesn't need some prima donna to get into her face and lecture her.
*AN URGENT PLEA: Once again, I've reached a financial crossroads here at the 415 Media blog.
More readers; less money; not enough contributions.
I'M REACHING OUT to those of you that like coming here every day to read about Bay Area TV/Radio and media in general but I NEED YOUR HELP.
Again.
To keep this site permanent and 24/7 sustainable, not to mention, independent --PLEASE, scroll down to the Pay Pal Icon on the right side of the blog and click on the DONATE button. Then just follow instructions. It takes only a minute. And it's 100% safe and secure and completely confidential. You do not have to have a Pay Pal account to contribute.
Some of you have made multiple donations and again, I THANK YOU. Most of you have not and I understand it's tough for some people but it's tough for me too. Please help out today and make sure 415 MEDIA is a permanent fixture in Bay Area TV/Radio News and Commentary.
Thanks so much.
Kristen Sze is like a fine wine—she gets better with age. She's more gorgeous now than she was ten years ago. Her face has filled in with better shape. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI agree! Kristen Sze is very professional and she pairs well with any anchor.
DeleteIf the bar story is true I hope that couple learns about the 'report' and never returns there. Asshole move by that bartender.
ReplyDeleteThe women on the "Extra Special" team the have the power, the power to grab your attention and not let go and the power to make a Good Friday morning a "Great" Friday morning. Darya and Robin, a lethal combination!!
ReplyDeleteThe local radio guy was concerned about the not-his-wife lady being close to the BAC drunk limit.
ReplyDeleteSo they stepped outside and into his car...and administered the BAC breathalyzer-tube treatment.
Seeing that she was not near the legally-drunk limit, the couple then went back inside the bar.
With Jesse Gary, maybe he is just 100% freelance now? Could explain why he's off the roster. Sergio Quintana is at KNTV but isn't on their website roster either. And AFAIK, he's 100% freelance.
ReplyDeleteTV news management didn't/doesn't see what Rich and we viewers see. While I believe what Rich says is generally true why doesn't management see Aveson's lack of chemistry? It would save a lot of time in the firing/hiring process if management had the skill to differentiate between chemistry and no chemistry.
ReplyDeleteI assume the prima donna bothering Sze is from the morning?
ReplyDeleteThe KRON management is too busy either berating others or bean counting their coins and pensions. Not to mention incompetence and a lot of fear toward both their bosses and the Bentley.
