Jessica Aguirre Still as Graceful As Ever on NBC Bay Area Despite Her Lame Duck Status; Veteran Bay Area Anchor Lights Up Newscast; Classy and Elegant; 415 Media Friday Notice

Jessica Aguirre
IT CONFOUNDS ME STILL...I regard Jessica Aguirre as a classy, smart, news anchor with star status; that's saying a lot, I gather that, but when I watch her anchor the news on NBC Bay Area (KNTV) she adds a lot of allure to the newscast and her style, even from her KGO days, is something very refined and elegant. Unique too; in today's biz, that's saying a lot.

Which only further makes it maddening that the suits in San Jose have not extended Aguirre who is working without a contract (since March) A lame duck.

Aguirre is still mighty, mighty on the air and the contract (or lack of one) certainly hasn't affected her news reading. She's still dynamic and she can still light up the screen.

I mean that respectfully in every sense of the word because inevitably I'll be accused by some as being a male chauvinist pig because I have the audacity of saying how beautiful it is to watch an anchor like Aguirre.

OK, so sue me.

Aguirre has a huge following, particularly women of the PTA crowd and her feedback is mostly all positive. She is supposedly fretting the lack of commitment from NBC in San Jose; why is that guys? Is it because of her age? Jess is 55. That's considered "old" in the TV News business but only for women; men seem immune to that situation; gees I wonder why.

55 was old about twenty years ago; today, it might as well be 35. Different era.

Image result for jessica aguirre facebookI would hope that KNTV would do the right thing and extend Jessica Aguirre another few years at least (with a mutual option) because I believe she's still got it. A lot of it too. And not just her news acumen but a whole lot more.

And I believe I'm not alone in that assessment.

Sylvia Chase KRON Experiment Was One Of Bay Area TV's Biggest Blunders

Sylvia Chase had name--BIG name. Like ABC, "20/20" name and big network gusto--and KRON, the old KRON, had plenty of desire and money to shove someone's way to make a splash --too bad it didn't work.

Chase was paid a handsome pile of dough, (close to a million bucks) to become part of the KRON family.

She debuted alongside co-anchor, Jim Paymar after the Super Bowl, 1986. Everything soon went downhill after that. Chase never moved the needle for KRON. In fact, her presence created quite a bit of jealousy and friction among station staffers-- I wonder why. In any event it was one of the biggest blunders in local TV history. And an expensive one at that.

KTVU Power Anchor Couple: Somerville And Mikaelian; KTVU Website Re-Design, (Sort Of)

Frank Somerville and Gasia Mikaelian of KTVU News
SOMERVILLE and MIKAELIAN --KTVU Website Redesign too, (meh).

I like Frank Somerville and Gasia Mikaelian of KTVU --solid pros and news anchors.

Like I said, solid, but not spectacular, which brings to focus, just who is spectacular anymore? It's a rhetorical question because I don't see it out there. Maybe I'm just some cranky bastard.

Gasia seems to get a lot of attention lately if my e-mail and your admiration society is any indication.

What is it? I'm serious. If she were Gasia Jones would you love her so much? Is it the exotic look? Like I said, I think Gasia Mikaelian is an above-average news reader but she doesn't stand out for me and I'm not in any way inferring her physical appearance has anything to do with it, (we'll, maybe slightly), --it's always subjective. Maybe someone can shed some light.

Where's Veronica? Pix Anchor Mystery Has a Few Issues But Maybe Presence Sooner Rather Than Later

Last I checked new anchor for KPIX, Veronica De La Cruz hasn't yet set foot into the news chair --she was to begin anchoring the 6 and 10 PM News, (KCBW), last Monday but so far no Veronica.

The pictures, as I've noted look good. Can't wait.

What's going on?

A PIX staffer says tells me info is scant:

All I hear is she is a single parent with a nanny and a mother --but still having problems moving in...whatever!

Whatever, as usual, KPIX hasn't said a word...yet. Maybe by the TV gods, she'll be on Monday night but I'm prepared for further mystery.
