I'M PUZZLED WHY...apparently KNTV (NBC Bay Area) is not so hot for Jessica Aguirre --the Bay Area TV News veteran still hasn't had her contract renewed and "is a little freaked out", (from an Insider)I very much like and respect Aguirre both from her KGO days and now in the Southbay with NBC but at 55 she's suddenly vulnerable.
I mention her age because for a woman on TV News 55 is perceived as "old." Really? Tell that to Diane Sawyer and Andrea Mitchell, bot well past that age and still thriving and frankly, lovely to look at never mind terrific TV journalists.
Aguirre is not everyone's cup of tea but she reads the news well, has a pleasant sense of humor and can ask good questions in a split-screen interview. She's also been in the Bay Area for decades; you would think that would count for KNTV management. She's also got a legion of loyal fans who like her demeanor and style.
They have good taste.
Her contract is up and with the Carolyn Johnson situation stuck in third gear (I reported KNTV was courting Johnson) there's still a chance Aguirre and company work out a deal and she stays put in San Jose.
I, for one, hope they can work out a deal.

If what you report is true, I'm surprised in this world of PC and in the Bay Area and particularly SAN JOSE, they're gaga over Johnson, a blonde-haired blue-eyed caucasian who seems more suited to LA, over a Latina. I really like both and wish they could be co-anchors--I've worked with both and both are great. Hard to root for one over the other here.

DeleteJessica's DNA is holding up just fine. KGO should have kept her,KPIX mistake was too never get in on the bidding,Their newscasts are not only Milk- they are lactos free milk. Cant be any more plain then that.

ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of Jessica Aguirre. She is rock solid as an anchor and pairs nicely with Raj Mathai. She is probably the strongest female anchor in the Bay Area over Julie Haener, Pam Moore, Ama Daetz and anyone on KPIX. While I really like Carolyn Johnson and her work at KGO, I don’t fell her return will cause a big increase in ratings.
