*I make fun of them, yes, quite a bit but it bears repeating (again); how can a professional TV News operation be credible (a CBS O and O no less) be taken seriously when they go through reporters and seem to hire new ones every day. Only most of these people don't even know their own region and look and sound like rejects from the Cedar Rapids Times.
KPIX used to be a quality operation with great anchors and reporters and newscasts that were watchable and chock full of great TV journalism. Now, they have NO IDENTITY. They have no leadership. Most of their anchors are boring and useless, incompetent. Now I know why PIX has no face of the station; because there is NO face of the station. And the few quality people they have on the anchor desk and wasted on the weekend. PIX needs deep cleansing and a fresh coat of paint. Perpetual mediocrity would be one thing. At CBS-SF, it's the Titanic on Battery and Broadway.
*Raj Mathai and Dan Ashley: Nice guys finish first.
*Allie Rasmus is being wasted on KTVU; like KGO's Amy Hollyfield, she doesn't get enough stories and that's poor execution. Rasmus is primed for a network gig; she's tough, tenacious, yes, OK, gorgeous and destined for higher circles only the FOX2 folks use her improperly. While you mount another camera in the newsroom you guys might want to give more anchor time to Rasmus. On the street as a reporter and the anchor desk.
*A prominent ex-Cumulus staffer told me via text: "I'll never work in radio again." If ou want to know the state of radio...

So you say Amy Hollyfield "doesn't get enough stories." Street reporters are already run around all over creation and worked to the bone. Why in the hell would she want even more work dumped on her?
ReplyDeleteAgree 100% on Holyfield. She is the best "LIVE" reporter in the Bay Area. Rasmus is not in her league yet, but is close.
ReplyDeleteKPIX does make some questionable hires. Da Lin was certainly
"not ready for prime time." Compare these three -- Amy and
Allie are LIVE on camera for extended periods of time when
telling their stories. Da does not have that capability. He
does a LIVE opening and close, but the majority of his LIVE report is taped. He should have stayed at KRON longer to work on his craft and KPIX should have seen that he was not ready.
telling women to "perk up" and "smile" more is offensive and misogynistic. See mirror
ReplyDeleteI think Rich means their ON-AIR personalities need some tweaking. Not their normal day-to-day behavior.
DeleteWould love to know what the prominent ex cumulus employee has to say about that company, how its run, the management, radio in general, all the details. Enquiring minds want to hear.
ReplyDeleteAgain, as long as DR is there, nothing will change at PIX. That's where the root of the problem is. And it sounds like DR is pretending RL doesn't exist. A shame. How about a little peer respect? What, it's been gone for decades? ARRRGH!
ReplyDeleteDR is well aware of who Rich is. The entire station knows and they wish he'd disappear
DeleteSome guy on KTVU last night named Andre something or something Andre (never seen him before) was anchoring, and he called Jackie Speier something like "Jackie Spy-yure." Over and over and over.
ReplyDeleteRich, what do you think of KTVU's new reporter/anchor Andre Senior? Clearly an experienced reported in the field and solid behind the desk too! Good addition to KTVU. But what's up with Frank and Julie? They may have been both on the air together a total of 5 times in the past three weeks?
ReplyDeleteRasmus is a good solid reporter...not ready for the anchor desk yet.
ReplyDeleteI could swear I've seen Allie Rasmus do the occasional anchor fill-in, probably on a weekend...seemed alright to me, especially compared to, say, Steve Aveson - who would be great on a middle-school CCTV newscast, but woefully underprepared for an actual major-market newscast...
DeletePersonally would prefer to see Allie over Alyana or *ugh* Heather.
