He still is. Well, maybe. It's just one thing that has to be worked out.
Cash.Mibach wants more dough than KTVU/Fox2 is apparently willing to pay him. He seems to think his salary would climb from the morning (where he has anchored since 2005) at "Mornings on Two" to the evening prime time slot of 10 PM and earlier newscasts --5 and 6 PM.
The old days of mega-money salaries is just that, the old days. Mibach, who hovers near the $200K a-year salary figured he'd get a significant raise --anywhere from $350-$400K yearly territory but that's a pipe dream. Julie Haener, KTVU news anchor, makes in the $500K range. As did her ex-co anchor, Frank Somerville. But industry figures tell me there's no way Mibach will come close to that and even Mikey knows that.
My best guess seems both Fox and Mibach will work something out and that a deal gets done. Mibach desperately fought for the job and wants out of of morning hell. And KTVU itself desperately wants to move forward from Somerville so it can begin a new phase for its franchise newscast. It makes too much sense. Even Channel 2 can't screw this up.Yet.
I’ve enjoyed the various anchor combinations in recent weeks. Totally had forgotten about Mr Constipation. I’m still stunned Andre Senior was passed over for the top spot. If Mibach thinks he’ll make $500k he might as well go back to the station parking lot and keep screaming in his car.
ReplyDeleteI also would have preferred Andre Senior.
DeleteThat's the Amber Eikel special, not paying people and watching them waltz out the door. Idiotic. Mike is a super solid anchor. They should sign the deal and finally move forward. It's ridiculous they've waited this long. I have not enjoyed watching the round robin anchor game. All it does is give you less reason to watch. Dumb.
ReplyDeleteNO ONE is worth 500K a freakin year....jesus.
ReplyDeleteAnd Andre should have been given that spot. Not "mikey"...
I'll do it for 100k
ReplyDeleteThe Bay Area doesn't *need* Mibach, or for that matter Julie, Gasia, Andre, Heather, Alex, Frank, Claudine, or any of the other telegenic prompter readers. Let them all go. Take Rob Roth or Tom Vacar, pair one of them up with Cristina Rendon, and you have a solid anchor pair without any of the drama. Or recruit a pair of new anchors from KCBS or KQED, as long as they don't resemble Quasimoto. 'PIX figured this out decades ago (and has since forgotten the lesson) with Dave McElhatton. KGO learned it even longer ago with Roger Grimsby. And even KTVU knew that lesson once upon a time with Dennis Richmond. Maybe Eikel's replacement will have learned that lesson somewhere along the career path.
ReplyDeleteYou mean like a Fox2 version of Terry McSweeney and Audrey Asistio? Yup, agree, that would work. Probably be an improvement too.
DeleteRob Roth and Tom Vacar are both deep into their 70's and need to retire and let some young talent come in.
DeleteI think they've stopped saying things like, "I'm (so & so) in tonight for Julie Haener". I understand no longer saying it about Frank S., as he's finally gone, or is he(?), as he's still listed on KTVU's website. Neither he or Julie H. have a bio write-up, btw. Maybe only the KTVU webmaster is gone.

Mike, remember: There is always someone, bigger stronger, faster, smarter and willing to work cheaper than you and he's in your rear view mirror getting closer everyday!
ReplyDeleteThat's correct.....Da Lin
DeleteI can't stand Mibach so I definitely won't be watching.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! Mibach is awful. I prefer André Senior.
DeleteOffer him $125k. If not Brent Cannon or Wilson Walker would do it for $89k
ReplyDeleteBottom line... let's see how you do first kid, and then we'll talk money. Can he move the ratings needle?
ReplyDeleteI bet he’ll throw a temper tantrum in his car (again) if the The Firm doesn’t give him the outrageous salary that he feels entitled to.
ReplyDeleteI’m surprised they didn’t offer the prime time job to Greg Liggins. He offer everything that ktvu values: boring, unqualified, and a POC.
