Mike Mibach is so FED UP with dealing with morning irritants (Gasia Mikaelian and certain staff) that he's itching to get the PM anchor gig; he's so ANGRY that he hasn't ruled out a concerted effort to SPLIT KTVU and head for another station. Mibach has stopped yelling in his car but he does not like working with Gasia and it's reached the boiling point.
*Nextstar is quietly preparing to send an internal investigative team to KRON to get a gauge on the SHOOTING TRAGEDY that took place in Oakland the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Nextstar may or may not be trying to cover its ass but pressure from its high-top execs and KRON brass itself is at the forefront. The guard that was killed in the brazen armed robbery attempt is serious enough business. Most assuredly, the vistim's family will be seeking a lawyer and that is not good news for Nextstar and KRON. It's a bad deal all around and it's affecting morale at KRON across the board. Of course, management doesn't want anyone talking about ANY OF IT, for good reason. Stay tuned.
*A SEA CHANGE at PIX? Staffers are surprised at the pace of the new 5 PM newscast (with Sara Donchey and Ryan Yamamoto) set for a January launch. CBS-SF is planning a MAJOR AD campaign plus numerous in-house promos. It's the talk of PIX.
*MOST SF TV News stations (not all), according to a source, have planned a joint effort to work with KTVU on any possible Oakland live shot assignments. How so? Because of the shooting tragedy, the idea has been launched to use KTVU's parking lot (which has broad security) to file production pieces and try to avoid any future issues.
*Talk of town: the new reporter at KGO that thought Sutro Tower was open for tourists.
*Speaking of talk of town, the Greg Papa/Tim Ryan TD call of the 49ers win in Cincy was WAY OVER THE TOP, even by nutty Papa standards. I didn't hear it and I don't want to.

BYE, Mikey. Don't let the door hit you in the face on the way out!
Yep, Good Riddance, Mibach.
DeleteNow, about removing the Gas Bag.

Will they show Sara walking her dog on the beach like they're doing now with Amanda Starrantino? Seems like every time a new anchor (female) comes to town, she's in a commercial walking her dog on the beach and talking about how this is the greatest place on earth. (Meanwhile, her car is being vandalized in the parking lot probably.) It's as much of a cliche as going to Walnut Creek to interview people in front of the fountain.
Michelle Griego and Emily Turner thought that this is the greatest place on earth. That is why they eagerly moved back to their hometowns. I wonder if Starrantino will end up back in her home area, before long.
DeleteMichelle was the leader of a last place show. She got out of town before they canned her
DeleteYou know it's serious when a joing beffort is in the works.
ReplyDeleteMibach: Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
ReplyDeleteRe the KRON shooting and death. Had there been a history of robbery and violence and KRON did not have a guard there, then I could see a lawsuit if an employee were harmed. BUT, they did hire a guard, an ex LO officer. Somehow that could be KRON's fault? Someone please 'splain.
ReplyDeleteNothing is cut and dry in law. Just because he was employed as a guard doesn't mean he couldn't have been made to do something that was unsafe, or illegal, or negligent. There are still conditions of employment that have to be met, no matter what his capacity.
Delete...Or, some attorney could just be on a fishing expedition. That happens too. But the law is never cut and dry. The answer is always, "It depends on the circumstances."
Yes, Papa went CRAZY!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAn NBC sports crew was robbed at gunpoint Saturday morning in Oakland.
ReplyDeletePapa and Ryan are absolutely nauseating after a touchdown; it diminishes an otherwise competent broadcast. Robinson's professionalism and humility
ReplyDeleteare missed.
Mibach is about to discover just how far down the pecking order he really is.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Mibach is nothing more than a utility player who only got a taste of the big time because of Frank Somerville's conduct. Somehow he failed to realize that his prime time fill-in duties were just that: fill-in duties. He's not a prime time guy but he's also not a morning show guy. He would be best anchoring the noon, 4, and 7. Promote Alex Savidge to a more prominent role.
DeleteI hope Mibach decides to go to Splitsville. He's worn out his welcome at KTVU and they need to stop with the same rotation of the same boring case of characters. Wish ktvu would get its leadership act together, and while they're at it bring in some real talent from the outside, instead of just junior reporters whose 'reports' contain more filler words than substance.
DeleteSomeone needs to tell Mibach that he has a good paying job and that he should appreciate what he has. So he doesn't like working with Gas, boo who. We've all had jobs where our coworkers were pains in the asses. DEAL WITH IT.
ReplyDeleteI used to work part-time at KTVU. Yes, they have a HUGE parking lot surrounded by a guarded fence. And it's in the relatively-safe neighborhood of Jack London Square. That they're offering up use of the lot to other stations is a classy move. I salute them.
ReplyDelete> And it's in the relatively-safe neighborhood
Delete> of Jack London Square.
Relatively. I never go there anymore. I know too many people who've been jacked.
> That they're offering up use of the lot
> to other stations is a classy move. I salute
> them.
I'm sure there's a fee involved. Do you think they are doing it because they want to help the competition? They pay for those guards.
Whether there's a fee involved or not, it's nice to see that KTVU is offering a safe haven for those stations who insist on doing the "live shot" (which, personally, I find to be a depleted cliche. Nobody cares, unless the reporter is right in the middle of the actually-transpiring event). I hope everyone in this industry works together to assure that what happened to Kevin never happens again.
DeleteMike is pissed KTVU decline to give him the evening news spot. Blame Gasia taking dirty.
ReplyDeleteWhere’s Lon Simmons when you need him?
ReplyDeletePapa has become a distraction on Niner broadcasts. The buffoonery and preening at times draws far too much attention to his ego. Thankfully, radio play-by-play on the Giants, A's, and Warriors is professional and THEY TELL US THE SCORE OCCASIONALLY.
ReplyDeletePapa's contrived screaming after the replay review which gave the Niners the winning touchdown was downright embarrassing. Fine to get excited in the heat of the moment, but after a ref's pronouncement over the PA? Please. Someone should tell Papa that this is a sophisticated area with intelligent fans. This boorish midwestern style nonsense is just so hard to stomach.
DeleteYears ago, Poopa was considered as an up-and-coming talent out of Syracuse. He let that go to his head. He's so full of himself and such a kiss ass with the 49ers. He doesn't talk to his audience, he patronizes them. Actually, he's no different than a lot of the radio PBP people these days. Most don't paint visual pictures any more. You have no idea where the ball is most of the time. But if I have to listen to the 49ers on the radio, I'm so glad I've got satellite so I can pick up the other team's feed. It's a lot better than listening to the self-proclaimed God and his loyal court jester (Tim Ryan).
DeleteFYI only. Sanaz Tahernia, seems to have left KRON (she was a 3 pm weekday news anchor) in 11/2021 for a company called VSC in PR/Communications. She was previously a lawyer for ~6 years prior to getting a masters degree in Journalism and moving into broadcast media/news. I first saw here on KRNV news, a Reno NV station, reporting on something during an early morning broadcast prior to sunrise. Yet another person who's totally left the TV news business. No need to publish and doesn't relate to any particular blog you've got going right now.
ReplyDeleteI hear rumors they're looking for a news person in Elko, Nevada.
ReplyDeleteKTVU should make Jana Katsuyama an anchor. She's very pretty and has a nice smile and most importantly...she is good at her job.
ReplyDeleteWatching Sarah Donchey reporting on KCAL9 tonight.... on the storm on the Grapevine (I-5)....I think the Bay Area will like her. She is usually the weekend anchor on 9 down here.
ReplyDelete- Mibach and Gasia aren't the only ones that should be shown the door.
ReplyDelete- Most of East Bay law enforcement will be standing up to Nexstar and KRON. Whoever has the most effective lawyers will prevail. Smh
- Maybe PIX pacing themselves is a good idea. Unrelated to news personalities, I'm surprised they didn't move The People's Court to 4PM, replacing Judge Judy reruns.
- It will be up to the next Oakland mayor and all Oakland citizens not named Cat Brooks to stand up and make sure all of their city is protected with enough law enforcement, while not being forced to bow to anti-police zealots like Brooks and her ilk, because they aren't getting their way, regardless of safety needs and budgets.
- The biggest LOL at Circle7 in a long time?
- Didn't Rich mention that Audacy is trying to lure Bob Sargent away from the 49ers? Sargent is why the Faithful have to put up with Greg Papa, Tim Ryan, etc., and not have the more well-matched Ted Robinson fit within their base. As long as the Yorks employ Sargent, CBS, FOX, NBC, & ESPN will have more 49er Faithful viewers when the networks go to Santa Clara or have another team host them. Niner Radio used to have both far bigger ratings and much more respect when Lon Simmons, then Joe Starkey, then Robinson call the play-by-play, especially when Wayne Walker was the analyst. Now, whatever high ratings exist is just a money-making front and nothing more. Take TV or the NFL website every time.
Looks like Magnavox Smith has officially left KTVU. They said goodbye to her on air tonight.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't that be "Amagnavox"?
DeleteOne week into the "new" KGO, and seven hours of pat Thurston and john rothmann,so far not feeling it..rothmann tried one hour of a "light" topic, and junked it to go back to his usual all politics all the time format
ReplyDeleteWho the fuck cares about Mike Mibach? What a stiff.
ReplyDeleteCry me a river. We all have co-workers we don't get along with. Grow up and deal with it. If you don't like your job (or anything about it), then pack up and move on. Until then, work hard, be a professional, and keep your mouth shut.
ReplyDeleteGreg Papa and Tim Ryan really embarrassed themselves with that BUSH LEAGUE TD call and subsequent attempt at rapping. Memo to these two Bush Leaguers: you broadcast for the 49ers, an NFL Team. You arent broadcasting for Castro Valley HS. Stop with the "SAN....FRAN....CISKOOOO...." call - its ridiculous and embarrassing to hear. We KNOW its a freaking touchdown... everyone does. You dont need to let Anchorage know.... Can BOTH of these amatures. Ryam loves to here himself talk... and Papa - well he is just bad.
ReplyDeleteTim Ryan is a total buffoon Why an ex Chicago Bears player broadcasts for a team he had NOTHING to do with is baffling
DeletePapa is a joke.. that call is beyond bush league total joke of an announcer and a person
No traffic or weather on the morning show (at least the final two hours of it) Tuesday! No Sal, no Steve, no nobody. Just Gassy and Allie yacking it up. The day after the biggest freaking storm in ages! That's KTVU under Amber Eikel. What a joke of a ND.
