Mibach will depart his morning anchor position to become the co-anchor --with Julie Haener--at Channel 2's still-prestigious nighttime news franchise. In turn, Andre Senior will replace Mibach on "Mornings on Two." No official decision has been announced but it's already in the bag. "I'd bet the house on it," said the source.
Somerville's contract is up on Jan. 28th but his status at KTVU has been long since determined and the DUI arrest only made it possible for both Fox and KTVU to part ways. How it's officially handled is the only remaining matter.
Mibach, Bay Area native, has been anchoring at KTVU since 2005. He will get a gig he desperately wanted and has worked hard for, maybe not in the manner it's become available, but a dream job he has pursued since he arrived in Jack London Square over a decade ago.
He will be taking the anchorship at a time KTVU still leads in the evening ratings and continues to dominate.

I have never liked Mike Mibach as an anchor. In fact all the bay area news stations don't have any anchors worth watching anymore. Good luck to Mike anyway, I hope he likes the gig.

DeleteThere's something about Goodrich's delivery when she's sitting at the anchor desk that grates on me. I think maybe there's a certain pedant slant to it. It's weird though, because when she's in the field I'm perfectly fine with her.

ReplyDeleteThe best, easiest, and cheapest way for Fox to handle the Somerville situation is to use the old football strategy. Just let the clock run out. Game over. Any other way risks a fumble.

I don't really care who reads the news off the teleprompter, but every time I look at Mibach, I wonder just how flat his head really is. Is it really tabletop flat, or as my wife suggests, a combover? Asking for an ex-friend...

But, LET IT GO! Or just hurry up and die so that your 40-something kids can inherit your home and they can sell it for 10x more than what you paid and THEY can leave the crappy state of CA. ReplyDeleteMibach is the poster child for eternal constipation! Is KTVU going after the constipated demographic that they chose THAT torso to lead the news? I agree with others. Andre Senior is the better choice but considering FOX is making the call we all know what that means…no needs to read between the lines.

If he can read the teleprompter smoothly and not be a petty delusional drunk, he will be much better then FS. I'm sure Heather is upset and perhaps if she was a man, she would of gotten the position.
