Greg Papa Feuds with Another NBC Sports Bay Area Figure; First Johnson. Now Feldman

Related image Greg Papa is having another brouhaha at NBC Sports Bay Area; we alluded to one here earlier in the year; the latest involves Papa's growing feud with fellow NBCBA broadcaster, Dave Feldman.

Papa's still not comfortable with Kelli Johnson but has been buttoned in by NBC execs to lay off Johnson and try to be a little more engaging. Particularly given today's high anxiety with the #MeToo movement that's a wise idea. In the case with Johnson, it's only mere hostility --she can't stand him either by the way so the tranquility trail at the locale NBC sports cable company is full of litter.

In the case of Feldman, someone I'm not that fond of, there's tension with Papa --nobody knows exactly why; two huge egos always portend for possible friction. It happens in a competitive business with a lot of razzle and dazzle. Supposedly, Feldman and Papa don't see eye to eye on certain programming trends; gees, in the old days a simple beer after work between two budding ego maniacs could stave off feudal wars but Papa is moody --for a variety of reasons and Feldman thinks he's god.

Settle down, boys, and be lucky you don't have to work for a living.

  2. Reading 3:25's post reminds me of the great Dangerfield-Pesci line in Easy Money, except add hair to the salesman and the mannequin. "Put those two heads together, make an ass out of themselves". Still one of the funniest No Respect lines ever.

  3. It's such a stupid show anyway. Get rid of it. Johnson is without talent.
    What is she bitching about?
While they are getting rid of people, they should also deep six the screecher that comes on every two minutes with updates. Awful!

  4. Papa is a pain in the ass. When Fitz stole Greg's job with the Warriors, fans would have been incensed if Papa was likable. He is not and no one cared.

  5. Every time I see the promos for that show, I think "Poor Kelli Johnson".

  6. Hey Anonymous at 4:35pm. You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about when it comes to Kelli Johnson. She has more class and talent than anybody at NBC sports Bay Area. It’s sad to see by what you wrote that you can’t accept that she’s a women in a so-called man’s business who is more knowledgeable than YOU and anybody else she sits next too!

  7. With Papa, Kelli, and Mr. Happy, the show doesn't have the right chemistry with these three. The show is weak at best and it shows. They need to can it if these three can't play nice and work together like pros.

  8. Used to like Papa on the radio, but no more, he's become an arrogant know-it-all who won't shut up...of course his radio sidekick is even worse. Think I'll start listening to more NPR.

  9. Sorry, I like Papa more than I like Kelli or Feldy. Papa has more to share in terms of sports personalities than Kelli and he doesn't take pot shots at co-workers on-air like Feldy.

  10. I concur 8:13; I stopped listening to the living embodiment of Paul Brown, Vince Lombardi, Red Auerbach, and John McGraw.

  11. why was Papa taken off the giant pre and post game shows by the way, was it his choice or they replaced him with that other moron who is on now? and derek papa is just as arrogant and annoying as the father..

    1. Yeah, that was bizarre. I think they took Papa off Giants pre and post because they got rid of SportsNet Central, which was basically a Bay Area SportsCenter type show that Feldy and Fareed were the hosts of.

When they rebranded the station and brought in the Happy Hour and have Papa, Kelli Johnson, and Ray Ratto as the hosts, it left Feldy and Fareed without a job during the week, so I guess putting them on Giants pre and post and occasionally hosting Happy Hour on days Greg Papa is not there, was the consolation prize in a sense. They shouldn't have taken Papa off Giants pre and post. It's just not as good when Greg Papa hosted it. It kind of sucks now, even though the Giants losing 98 games last year played a role as well. Plus, Greg Papa had a better rapport with Tim Flannery, Aurilia, Shawn Estes, and the rest of the Giants pre and postgame show guests, than Feldy and Fareed do, even though Fareed is more of a baseball guy. I guess Papa had to give up one of his duties at Comcast/NBC Sports Bay Area to host Happy Hour, and giving up Giants pre and post probably made the most sense. He has a good thing on Warriors pre and post with Gary St. Jean and Kelenna Azubuike so it probably would've been hard for him to give that up.

I'm not totally sure if this was the case, but it seemed that way.

  12. Papa may be a jerk but at least there is something there. Feldman's credentials are "I went to school with Harbaugh" Not sure what that ever got NBCS. Feldman and Fareed are a combined big Zero. Fareed seems to be liked by NBC New York due to his Olympic assignments. Feldman, I bet when the contract runs out he wont be back. What a lightweight.

    1. For real though. When Harbaugh left the Niners for Michigan, I thought for sure Feldy would follow him there.... But yes, when you see him on TV, you can't help but think that. He's only there because he was/is friends with Jim Harbaugh.

  13. If you dig a little deeper to what's going on. Papa is butt Hurt Kelli didn't think he could charm the pants off her. Seriously he thought he could get some.

Yo Papa, Angela is on line one and she 's pissed!!

  14. As for Dave Feldman, he comes across as a likeable guy, but as far as covering sports , be just doesn't have it. I find it hard to believe that sports is his thing.

    1. I agree. It seems like he would be someone who would be more of a regular news guy than a sports news guy. Plus, he's kind of too dull to do sports.

It just shows you how a lot of people want to do sports, even people who don't seem like sports would really be their thing.

  15. whenever Papa is missing from the show (which is very often) I'll watch for awhile, when he is there I just keep switching channels... btw, gotta give Papa props for lung capacity, he just talks and talks and talks without ever shutting up and giving anyone else a chance to chime in

  16. It was reported by Rich that Papa might be having marriage problems, so maybe that is why he is a grouch. He knows his sports, and I like hom much better doing the Warriors play by play or Fitz, but it is not a deal breaker. I learned alot from Barnett.

  17. Wow, I'm kind of shocked that Papa and Feldy are having problems. Didn't Feldy give Greg Papa the "Papa Bear" nickname?.... Man, all kinds of drama at NBC Sports Bay Area.

  18. Kelli Johnson and Feldy offer no better insights than my neighbor out mowing his lawn or the guy sitting on a bar stool spouting off. All fluff no substance. They both need to go.
