  1. Greg Papa is TERRIBLE!!! Color me Team Kelli Johnson because I can't stand Greg Papa either. The Happy Hour would be significantly better if it jettisons Mr. Papa.

Also, Ray Ratto is a national treasure. He is the only person on the show that shares his honest opinion and isn't trying to carry water for the local teams.

  2. Once again, Kelli Johnson doesn’t get the credit she deserves. In a business in which a man has always been superior she once again outclasses any man that’s in her way. She does her homework, she knows her shit and it shows in her professionalism every night that there on air. She should stay. They both should go!

    1. Seriously???? Kelli Johnson can't keep her mouth shut. She talks over everyone and is constantly trying to prove herself. Ray Ratto sits there for an hour staring into he's laptop. It's no wonder she's single.

  3. I can't say I'm surprised by any of this. However, this show is so narrowly focused, I'm not surprised the ratings suck. It' always a love fest about the Warriors and Giants, the 2 primary NBCSN Bay Area teams, while everyone else is ignored. You might as well can this show and give every local team an "Outsiders" show. Sports Talk Live was so much better than this forced farce.

    1. The Giants and the Warriors bring them the best ratings though, and move the needle. They talked a lot of Niners and Raiders during football season, and of course during the free agency period. They rarely talk A's, but the A's just don't move the needle. They talk other teams as well.

Just curious, how would you fix the show?

I liked Chronicle Live better than Sports Talk Live. I think Greg Papa was a better host than Jim Kozimor who's kind of goofy.

    2. I wouldn't fix the show. I'd cancel it and do more narrowcast programming, as I said, with each team getting an Outsiders show or something along those lines. I'd bet that Kelli or Papa couldn't speak intelligently about any local teams aside from Giants, Dubs, Raiders, and Niners. Neither would be able to name the starting rotation for the A's or tell me what the Sharks traded to get Evander Kane. Ratto might, but Kelli and Papa would be lost.

Ratto plays up the curmudgeon thing way too much, but he is the most well rounded (pun not intended) of the 3. But if you're going to do a show like that, you have to give at least a little time to teams like the A's and Sharks. I've rarely watched Happy Hour, but when I have, the Sharks weren't mentioned once despite being in-season. Again, just shit-can this tire fire and give each team a daily 1/2 hour show with people who are passionate and knowledgeable about the team.

  5. Kelli is fairly knowledgeable regarding sports, but she never knows when to shut her piehole...also spouts every liberal line about social issues that sooooo many in the bay area think is the only reality in America...get out of your bubble people...

  6. Off the subject but why is Tolbert saddled with that fucking sophmoric idiot John Lund?

  7. The Happy Hour is worthless- let Kelli & Papa fight on air it would at least be somewhat entertaining, Ray gets a chainsaw

  8. The ratings are low probably because it's on at 5:00, when most people are stuck in traffic.

Kelli is knowledgeable but when she gets on a roll she's impossible to shut down. She just goes and goes and goes. Lady, take a breath. Papa is very knowledgeable but defers only to Ratto, which makes him somewhat insufferable. Ratto is the paid curmudgeon. The show is occasionally entertaining but don't plan on ever hearing about A's, Sharks, local college sports...... All Giants/Warriors/NFL. Actually a fairly tedious affair.

    1. Pretty insightful observations. Ratto is the only one of the three who can talk about hockey. They need to rotate in more of the local sportswriters like Kawakami and Marcus Thompson.

  9. I must be one of the few people who watch the show. I like Kelli Johnson she is great.

  10. I like Johnson; Ratto is a smart, funny, seemingly genuine guy.

I'm hoping the self-important Papa leaves for Las Vegas with the wretched Raiders, never to be heard from again.

  11. I’ve always liked Ratto. Whether at the Chron is doing his TV stuff, he is funny and insightful.

Sadly, I don’t think he’s long for this world. If he’s
Not diabetic on on track for a heart attack I would be shocked to see if he’s still alive in five years.

  12. Kelli is the only calm one of the three; the other two have had issues in one way or another - one with lots of off-the-air troubles, and one who doesn't take good care of himself, with the proof showing in his distracted opinions.

  13. since its pile on greg papa, can i mention how annoying his son is too, he produces his radio show derek papa and the over the top bontay hill..derek papa plays all the stupid sound effects and drops every five minutes.

  14. It will be interesting to see what comes out of this. I think the show isn't that bad and they seem to have good chemistry on the show, but at times you do have to wonder if something is there.

Greg Papa misses a lot of shows, even though at times he might want a night off after hosting his radio show on 95.7 and of course his Raiders duties, and his Warriors pre-and postgame duties. Out of all of his jobs, you can tell this is the one he views as the least important. His commercial on NBC Sports Bay Area, even though it's a joke (the one where he was supposed to do something with Kelli Johnson and Ray Ratto to promote the Happy Hour, but he was on Warriors pre or postgame and said he didn't have time for that. LOL), says a lot.

  15. Not to defend Greg Papa too much but, could part of the reason he could be creating a wall between himself and staff is because he just apparently got divorced, and maybe he could be thinking about his Raiders job when the Raiders leave for Vegas?

Not saying that's an excuse, but at times you can tell on the show as well that he looks tired/burnt out and he looks kind of stressed.

  16. Also, has anyone noticed that Greg Papa makes the same points on the Happy Hour that he does on his radio show? It's almost like, didn't he make this same point on his radio show 5 hrs earlier? LOL..... That could be another reason why the Happy Hour might not be as important to him, even though they do talk about a lot of the same topics as he does on his radio show.

  17. "Papa increasingly angry and moody." -- sure you weren't describing Fatto? CSNBA is irrelevant. All that station is, and like most of their kind, is to be a video news release channel for the teams. They don't have the resources to bring honest sports journalism to the public. Teams also pay rights fees to have their games carried by this shrill channel. CSNBA should just run infomercials except for game coverage. Even a trained monkey can program a computer to do that. Wait a minute, don't they do that anyway???

It's the freakin' Bay Area, dude. We're proudly liberal here--always has been, always will be. If you don't like it and our lifestyle/political views, then get the HELL out.

That's what I did when I lived in Phoenix. I couldn't STAND that Right Wing bastion of republiKKKanism...so I got the HELL out. I'm sure they're glad I did.

    But so was I.

    1. I'm sure Phoenix was glad to see you go. By the way, Northern California (I know, I'm was born here) was largely Republ I CAN until the 1960s or thereabouts.

  19. Papa is a pompous stuffed shirt. Ratto deserves much better. I pull for Kelli and Ray and jettison Papa

  20. Nepotism reins at the Game; how else can one explain the presence of the obnoxious and not funny ,(but thinks he is), son of Papa.

  21. Papa thinks he's a ladies man. That's as funny as Ray Ratto a ladies man. When Kelli wouldn't give him the time of day he turned into a massive lunatic. To the point his wife wanted to divorce his ass. Does anyone thing Kelli would give either of these two assclowns the time of day, if they didn't work together?
