Yeah, It would be Great if Tom Sinkovitz Got KRON Gig But...; Pam Moore and Michelle Griego Takes; Elation at KGO-TV; Overly Chatty KCBS Anchor Susan Leigh Taylor; Entercom Effect Invades All-News 740; Post Stormy Interview on '60 Minutes' KGO Talkin' With Female-Sounding Boris Karloff; 'Elvira' KRON in the AM; Kokkari Scene of Bad Boys and Girls; 415 Media Tuesday Extravaganza Before Pillow Cry

Tom Sinkovitz
A READER commented that KRON could make some waves and elicit immediate, positive feedback, by hiring veteran Bay Area news anchor, Tom Sinkovitz. Could it happen? Sure. Will it happen? Probably not. Why? First off, Sinkovitz is doing some special project work for KNTV (NBC Bay Area) and I doubt he'd want to go back to the grind of a nightly anchoring gig unless it were early-evening --like, say, a 5PM gig M-F.

That said, if KRON were to sit down and talk to him and make him an offer, he could be intrigued.

Pam Moore
But KRON, especially its ND, Aaron Pero, has little creativity and positive thought process. Pairing Sinkovitz with Pam Moore and/or Cathy Heenan would require some innovative leadership; something Pero lacks. Plus, it would make too much sense which means it would be a no-go.

Another thing: seriously, I really believe the Sink would be intrigued by "working out something" but again, don't hold your breath.

*By the way, I like Pam Moore. A lot. But she's  better than average, not great. The words, "great" and "amazing" get thrown out like a glass of water these days, sort of like a undeserving standing ovation.

Michelle Griego
*Quick question of the day: who's the latest person at PIX that Michelle Griego has thrown under the bus? Inquiring minds would love to know.

Behind that lovely smile, apparently, is a woman who has little patience for whom she considers "threatening."

*Yeah, mass elation at KGO-TV over Nurse Ratched being denied the GM gig because ABC and Disney read certain blogs that tend to be read and studied.

Not bragging (much too much on my plate these days, like, for example, dealing with life issues) just merely stating the facts.

*I know it borders on sacrilegious to say that KCBS morning anchor, Susan Leigh Taylor, is becoming overly chatty and annoying but there, I said it. She's a perfectly fine news reader but the new, relentless, chitty-chatty barrage has become toxic radio.

Nurse Ratched
The good news: Taylor's daily notice to listeners that ...

"I saw some drizzle on my windshield on the drive into the station" has temporarily abated.

Thank you Lord.

*Actually, there's a heck of a lot more chitty-chatty on KCBS...across the board signifying the Entercom effect has officially taken place while the old, dignified, CBS News brand has been dumped into the bay. I'm not saying the sky is falling; I like legitimate, sincere, reasonable off-copy conversation, BUT...the old KCBS was very much like the old KTVU: news delivery, avoidance of blustery, fake, unnecessary, idle giggling ...KCBS is no longer run like a "news station"; more like a "radio station." Yeah, I'm a sucker for tradition. A tradition that scored BIG ratings. Yeah, I know their numbers are still good but it's not the same.

Stan Bunger and Susan Leigh Taylor
*Gees, I didn't know Stan Bunger is now a comedian too.

*Beginning to sound overly-chirpy and way too happy even when she doesn't have to be: morning weather yenta, Neda Iranpour.

*The other night when "60 Minutes" Andy Cooper was doing his sit-down with POTUS stripper, Stormy, there was considerable buzz on Twitter, Facebook, and the like.

Meanwhile, on local radio, 810 AM to be exact, I just checked in to hear what was taking place, curious you know and I wasn't, as usual, disappointed: some taped yenta comedienne was talking to some woman who sounded like a female Boris Karloff. It was unintentionally hilarious from the "next generation" station that is stuck in first gear on the Nimitz during rush hour.

*THIS JUST IN: KGO's Ethan Bearman will interview Dr. Irving Gefilte on the origin of potato kugel.

Rebecca Strom
*Hey, the new Elvira on KRON's morning extravaganza: Rebecca Strom. Just a little more black, you go girl!

*The bar scene at Kokkari is apparently the best place to observe male and female SF TV anchors and reporters behaving badly.

Careful, boys and girls, your spouses have been officially alerted.

Kokkari bar
I used to hang out at the bar and order a few martinis until I got the bill that was roughly north of a few hundred--I'd been better off calling my friend, Sheila Cornucopia at the Emeryville Dennys. She'd have settled for a PBR and wild night at the Oaks Card Club.

*FINALLY...

I'm still taking it one day at a time. And it still hurts. Damn, it still hurts.

I'm supposed to not refer to it nor talk about it because you come here to read about something totally different and more entertaining --but believe me, it is darn hard to write such unbelievably mundane minutiae (I love that word)

Don't relish the clearly absurd.
Put everything in perspective. There's so much more important things in life.

OK, so I've done my Dr. Phil routine and will go back to a stale bagel and coffee and later cry in my pillow.

  1. Tom, back on KRON, that is old school. Pam Moore should be fine as a solo main reporter with her co-anchors, just choose anyone to help her out. Their news and ratings can never been any other station. How about putting Frank Malicoat instead with Lawrence, both from KPIX and let go! As for Michelle, she came back ASAP when Maria Medina, one of my favorite reporters got the top spotlight while she was on maturity leave, wouldn't anyone feel negatively odd inside seeing this when you are off.

  2. Rich, it’s your blog and you can and should do anything you think is therapeutic. When my folks passed away (a year apart and at the ages of 85 for mom and 90 for dad), it took me quite a while to get over the hurt. I found being able to talk about it with my wife helped immeasurably. Some say you have to be stoic or suck it up and, if that works for them great. But for me, and I get the feeling that for you, talking it out helps a lot.

  3. > morning weather yenta, Neda Iranpour.

Oh, stop knocking her. She's sexy. She's beautiful. I love her voice. She and Sandhya are my two meteorological fantasies.

    2. She has a great profile and the best part, she knows how to display her profile! She has the right numbers in all the right places.

She has the ability and assets to crossover and become a player on the "Extra Special" team! Time will tell.

The 60 Minutes segment Sunday. Take an interviewer who has zero personality, interviewing someone who comes from the "trailer trash" segment of our society, not the least bit interesting!!

Robin Winston this morning, brilliant. Nothing new, she is brilliant every morning, she will always be "extra special."

Good to see Darya back, her middle name is "daring" and everyone wonders why see has lasted so long. Gasia, always a pleasure to watch, especially this morning.

To all the players on the "Extra Special" team, you are extra special...I salute each and every one of you!!

    4. I immediately turn off the radio on KCBS when a woman with a terrible voice like Kristie Alley begins to speak.

  4. S'okay, Rich; when you cry into YourPillow.. er.. your MyPillow (tm)... it will hold it's shape and it won't go flat. He guarantees it!

  5. Rich, see what you have done. Now Kenny Choi will have to take an extra beating from Michelle. When will KPIX figure out when you change all the parts around her and nothing changes. She might be the problem.

  6. Dr. Phil is a publicity hound, riding on Oprah's deeply rich coattails, then on the coattails of Bull star (and ex-NCIS 2nd man) Michael Weatherly. He pretty much loves to hear himself talk, and have desperate patients in tears coming to him.
Mr. Rich is a strong - and the only - blogger covering the ins and outs of Bay Area Media. He misses the old school days, and rightfully so. Terrestrial radio is at its lowest point. Station middle managers and owners continue to ignore readers, listeners, and viewers' requests, with the exception of Disney & ABC's pleasant surprise in listening to Ashley, Finney, & just back Daetz's concerns by removing Trixie. Thankfully, there are still enough solid professionals scattered throughout Bay Media (The aforemention at Circle7; Ibanez, Rendon, Rasmus at KTVU; Moore, Heenan, Liviakis at KRON; Mathai, Aguirre at KNTV; Goodrich, Medina, Deanno at PIX). Mr. Lieberman has earned the right to do and say anything he wants on his page, never begging for attention (unlike Dr. McGraw). Rich, just be you, and it's all cool in my book.

    1. Probably is. His way too many spots have made him a millionaire, while the majority of us aren't. A good product, however. I purchased one, and then got two more.

  8. Pretty obvious now why Bunger and Susan Leigh are NOT on TV. And how about Jan Wahl with that clown Aaron that won't damage your home window install even if it was made of potato chips? Jan said "thanks airwin".

  9. Hey Rich, hang in there, you will be fine in time. On a nother note, have you had the chance to look at the San Francisco Bay Area Archive? I just watched the recap of the KPIX report on the Loma Prietq earthquake, with Dave Macelhaton (sic) and Wendy Tokuda, and the recap of the KTVU oakland Hills fire. Talk about reporting. Tought you might be interested if you had not found this yet.

  10. Hmm . . . any reference to Nurse Ratched reminds me of Louise Fletcher's amazing Oscar acceptance speech including her signed thank you to her deaf parents (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGl5U7nNlkY). Tears . . .

  11. I admit that Neda's voice is a bit rough, but she's a big step up from Robbie. She does her job by reporting the weather and nothing else. As for Michelle, didn't she go down this "throw you under the bus" with someone in the past? It doesn't sound good. And that's a shame if it's true. I like Michelle.

  12. Entercom is only the latest fiasco. It's been a steady decline since KCBS hired all the KGO radio rejects. The sad state of the once great news station. Thank god for mp3 players and other options
