It's Official: Burnt-Out Andria Borba Leaves KPIX and TV News Biz for PR Gig

SHE GONE!

Andria Borba has been absent the KPIX news screen for nearly a year--tired and stressed out, as I've told you from the beginning.

Now it's official: Not only is Borba gone from KPIX, she's DONE with the TV News business!

Borba, like others, has taken a PR position with a local business. It's a cushy gig without all the pressure and relatively low pay of most reporter gigs in TV News in the Bay Area.

That being said, Borba's multi-year stint at PIX was significant eough and profound at 855 Battery. Borba wasn't everyone's favorite flavor, but her work was solid and she definitely stood out.

Just enough to say bye-bye to the biz.

  1. Good for her! Hope this is a better situation for her, personally and health wise.

  2. I bet she was a great swimmer...

  3. Two things Rich! As long as she’s happy, I’m happy for her. I know I should be asking you this in your ask Rich segment but what’s going on with Marcus Washington? He’s never there and when he is there, he never works the entire week. Have a good day rich!

  5. I liked her and will miss her.

Now we have the likes of Sara Donkey babbling about Bad Bunny in a baggy tracksuit.

  6. I liked Andria Borba and her field reporting was stellar. Another one who left the news business completely was Maria Medina. She was okay, but I feel bad for what she went thru (she lost a son and is a single mom, couldn't attend things). Now she is working happily for Alaska Airlines with a better work-life balance.

    1. Lots of them have done it recently, Hollyfield, Kato, Sasaki are all PR people now

    2. Sasaki and Notarangelo came to my mind, and I think there are at least one or two more (in addition to all of the aforementioned, in this thread).

    3. And Tara Moriarty, too. I loved her reporting, so adult and professional, always on point.

    4. Evan Sernoffsky is working PR for SFPD. Azenith Smith is doing PR for Pleasanton or Livermore or one of those Tri-Valley cities.

    5. Susie Steimle is another reporter who left TV news. I think that Susie works in the tech industry, now. Plus numerous former reporters who worked at the old KFTY station in Santa Rosa, including Jon Miller and Craig Kilborn.

  7. Did KPIX settle with her or let her go when she never show up? It is usually 6-12 months, no show, terminated no matter what the situation is. VDLC, Sports anchor and Andrea never ever said good bye to viewers and disappeared

  8. A drama queen reporter, citing burnout, leaving kpix for a PR job. Sounds like Borba has taken a page directly out of the Maria “Sid” Medina playbook.

  9. Let's just assume that she filed a claim with workman's compensation claiming she was injured mentally on the job. She collected the money AND at some point was being watched by private investigators while the claim drug on...
(I bet Christine Craft could shed some insight onto W.C. process)
There is NO way she can ever return to TV news because that is what caused the injury.
How do you think she has been paying her bills for the last year?

Good bet the insurance company got sick of paying her bills too.

  10. Our tax law firm is thinking about hiring a PR spokesperson to get the word out.
Discuss ERC qualification, and a face-of-the Firm.

    1. Sounds good Steve Moskowitz. Does this mean we don’t have to listen to your shtick every hour on all Bay Area stations about the ERC?

  11. Smart move by her! I left the biz over a decade ago for a state PIO gig--and couldn't be happier! M-F 8-5pm...no unapproved OT (that must be cleared a month in advance)...all nat'l and state holidays off...great health care plan...AND A PENSION! I've grown to love the Sacto area...and am comforted that my retirement years will be pretty stable (this was the one thing that kept me up at night when I was in local news: how the hell am I gonna survive if all I'll have will be about $70K in my 401K?)

  12. local tv news and anything televised is losing viewers by the millions..smart move...better benefits..better pay..job tenure. Being on tv is not the most important thing in the world. She did it..She did it well..good for her.
