Sure, NBC Sports Bay Area Lousy 'Happy Hour' Is Still Lousy But At Least Now Greg Papa Is Listening to Boring Kelli Johnson

Related image NBC SPORTS Bay Area's tepid "The Happy Hour" is still hard to watch but at least now, one of its hosts, Greg Papa, is finally listening to Kelli Johnson, another host on the show. Too bad that's just one of the problems.

Sure, most of the time, Johnson never says anything of substance and is only on because she's a woman and Comcast is trying to attract women sports fans so they have this woman on even though this woman is clearly out of her league. If you don't believe me, watch Papa's face when Johnson yaps a lot and indeed, Johnson does do a LOT of yapping. Too bad most of the time her yaps are mostly banal, useless, and safe takes on local sports which is the heart and soul of "Happy Hour." Surely, anything even remotely critical on the local teams (which Comcast broadcasts and has a financial stake in) would never be tolerated which is why, among other things, Happy Hour is sort of a fraud.

I've tried watching the program and it has nothing new. It's mostly a filler program that Comcast is using to fill as much content as possible but it offers nothing new; in fact, its booted predecessor, "Sports Talk Live" was far more entertaining and watchable.

Happy Hour is a local cable chatfest retread with the insufferable Ray Ratto as the designated (still) negative Nellie only Ratto's shtick is tired and unfulfilling --why Comcast thinks he's just a bowl of entertainment is beyond me and others; so far, the ratings suck and the show is being watched by few human beings not related to Kelli Johnson's family.

Have a nice day.

  2. Comcast does many things, none of them well. If they weren't a monopoly in the majority of their markets they wouldn't exist as a company because they SUCK at EVERYTHING they do.

  3. I'm hoping Papa leaves for Las Vegas with his beloved Raiders , never to be seen or heard from again. Pompous, arrogant twit; almost makes Rudy likeable.

  4. This trio makes The Three Stooges look like MIT graduates. They say nothing. They offer nothing. They think they know something. They're useless. People watch them because they think they're experts. They're experts at nothing. I'd rather watch Seinfeld. That show was about nothing. But at least they were funny and knew the show was about nothing. These three think they know something. This show is also another reason to break up these media mini-monopolies. Enough is enough.

The last time I was at Comcast, I thought I was at the unemployment office. Bunch of stankssses.

  6. I tuned in the other night during the opening of the show and in the course of less than 1 minute Kelli said "of course" 4 times...as in,"I'm joined of course by...and Matt Williams of course the manager of the Nationals, along with of course Greg Papa..."
So I guess that's the new over/under to beat....how many times she can say of course.

  7. Women usually aren't put on sports shows to attract female viewers. They are there because men like to look at attractive women. Jaymee Sire, Erin Coscarelli for example.
Same reason why the majority of TV female weather are attractive.

  8. I'm glad you posted on this show which I've watched a few times. First, It's hard to watch because Kelli feels she has to interject something which most of the time is an annoyance to Greg and Ray, showing her lack of knowledge on the subject. As a viewer, it makes it hard to watch and I wind up changing channels.

    1. The most annoying voice and stupid responses. I have to mute her when she talks. Who says extra frames?

  9. Ratto offers zero insight and is a pompous know it all. Loved when Greg Popovich shut him up after game 2 of the Spurs Warriors series. Kelli Johnson should be doing sports in a market like Toledo OH. Papa has overstayed his Bay Area welcome. Yet to find any Bay Area sports personality worth anything. They break no stories. That's done by national sports outlets and they are the thinnest skinned people around. From Papa to Ratto to Kawakami and most of the TV guys Radnich, Ibanez et al....just horrible.

  10. Wow, did you catch John Rothmann this morning?
Thanks KGO for having the insight to bring on Rothmann during such an Important and Historical Period of our History. Hope to hear John more often.
12-O'Clock Noon would be a most excellent & Interesting Time Slot!

  11. Kelly Johnson is annoying. Her Bay Area knowledge is superficial. She doesn't know enough about Bay Area Sports to host a show. If someone at Comcast thinks she's eye candy, they might want to get their eyes examined. Greg and Fatto are looking at her weird or avoid making eye contact because it's apparent she misinformed and lacks knowledge. They're trying their best not to correct her or embarrass her. Fatto and Papa are simply collecting a paycheck before they jump ship. CSN is sinking fast.

  12. the one time that i put the happy hour on, i was stunned to see this woman, Kelly Johnson leading the discussion on politics and how horrible Donald Trump is. She really came off as self-righteous and just had to tell the world how horrible Trump is. I am never tuning in again and am sorry that i tuned in at all.

    1. You must be a Trump supporter. I think we caught the same show, and I agreed with a lot of what she said. Does she posses encyclopedic knowledge of sports? No. But she certainly knows enough to hold her own with the other hosts, and with some of the guests. If it's eye candy you are looking for, try FS1, I hear they only hire women who are stunning. And they will never criticize Mr. Trump. So you would be all set.

  13. The writer of this piece is just as stupid as he accuses the happy hour show of being. First, about 99% of sports talk shows are all blather and this fool talks like other sports talk programs are more substantive. Baloney, they're not and you should be ashamed for your frat boy sexism for saying it's because Kelli is a woman. Second, Kelli is basically the host that introduces sports subjects that are in the headlines. She does the prep work and the other guys just chime in with their words. Sometimes it's crap but sometimes it's either funny, or I learn something, or both. My complaint about this show is that I watch mainly for Greg Papa and he misses far more shows than he makes.

  14. Kelli Johnson is not an asset to that show. She is cold and pompous. Find another woman, like Roz!
