Breaking: Ex-KGO Radio Talker Brian Copeland Sues Cumulus. But Case is Far Different Then Barbieri

Brian Copeland
Former KGO Radio talk host, Brian Copeland, is suing Cumulus over racial bias and age discrimination. He was subsequently let go.

My immediate reaction: long, long time before Copeland sees a dime, if any. Copeland is looking for Cumulus to settle this suit and pay out a big sum for this to go away. Good luck with that, Copie,.

There is precedent in this situation as former veteran sports talker, Ralph Barbieri, sued the Cloud Company and the suit was settled out of court.

Barbieri was represented by Angela Alioto, who coincidently is representing Copeland.

Barbieri ended up settling for a nice chunk of change although I do not see that ending in this particular lawsuit. Far too many variables.

Len Tillem, 'Da Loyah', Talks About Sexual Harassment--Should He Be On 'Da Radio'? Of Course

Why do I still laugh at DA LOYAH, Len Tillem? Maybe it's because Tillem, who last broadcast for 'Talk 910' and KGO Radio, doesn't force it, doesn't seem contrived--in fact, Tillem, who really doesn't need the fame and fortune--torture and aggravation too, is at his best here on YouTube.

I stumbled on this, accidentally no less, and wondered aloud why da loyah isn't on a radio program today--he's genuinely funny, informative and enlightening --which probably irritates the hell out him because he can't stand compliments, seriously.

Tillem swears he's content being a wills and trust loyah and doesn't need radio and/or TV but given his track record and ratings run in the past--(he had the highest numbers in his time slot at KGO) there's a market for legal talk, let alone legal talk from a guy from New Yawk with a sense of humor and tons of moxie.

Tillem tells it like it is; a sort of sweet, wise-guy verbal assault in-your-face--he's not for everyone, but his sense of humor is wicked and he knows what the hell he's talking about, all the while giving you the lowdown on everything from personal to professional, after all, HE'S DA LOYAH!

Len Tillem, 'Duh Loyah' Is Being Courted By Syndicators

 TILLEM GETS COURTED BY SYNDICATORS...

Let Tillem, aka: "Duh Loyah" has been contacted and courted by two different broadcast syndicators, according to a local source with knowledge of the situation.

The names of the syndicators were not available nor how serious or what the nature of the discussions only that Tillem is said to be mulling offers.

Tillem recently informed me that he loaded the broadcast equipment out of his remote Sonoma studio and "was done with radio."

But he also said "I never say never" so at this point if there's interest then there's light if your a loyah liker.

Tillem had been doing independent podcasts and after an initial successful run, began to phase them out. He of course has had stints at KGO and Clear Channel of late. At KGO his ratings were pretty much off the chart until Cumulus came in and aborted the talk format.

I'll keep you updated as to the seriousness, (or not), of this latest development just as soon as I get more information.

Yes, It's Sort Of Crummy That 'Da Loyah', Len Tillem Has Apparently 86ed Radio

Anybody out there still misty-eyed about the radio disappearance of The Loyah--you're preaching to the choir.

Len Tillem has all but abandoned broadcasting. Which is a shame because like many observers I think Da Loyah is always entertaining and funny.

I'm surprised, and have told DA LOYAH himself, Tillem, that given the right direction, he'd be the perfect practitioner a la syndication let alone local broadcast.

But Tillem recently told me he's through doing radio. How much so? Enough to haul out all the broadcasting equipment in his Sonoma-area office.

Oh hell.

Tillem is grouchy. Impatient too. Sure, he can be a pain in the ass--which is his greatest asset --on the air and off. Too bad the loyah has closed the door. Then again, never say never.

Right?

Michael Cardoza: 'Charges Will Be Filed Against 49ers Player, Ray McDonald';

Michael Cardoza is a noted criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor. You've probably seen him on TV as he's done a lot of legal analysis for CNN, Fox, and KTVU, here locally.

Cardoza didn't just walk in off the street--he's been practicing law for over 40 years and knows his stuff.

I asked him about Ray McDonald, the 49ers lineman, who was arrested recently but has yet to be charged.

Cardoza told me directly that McDonald would be charged even though there's a perception from some, rightly or wrongly, that the Santa Clara County DA's office is thought to be lenient.

"The real question, will he be charged because there is enough evidence or because of the national spotlight on domestic violence despite lack of evidence", says Cardoza.

So, I asked him further, Will the Ray Rice case have an impact on the DA's decision? "Absolutely, it will--expect to see him, (McDonald), in a criminal court."

Cardoza's prediction is significant only because there's been a noticeable lack of news regarding McDonald's legal status. The DA, I assume, when it gets the case, will interview witnesses and, presumably, talk to police and examine the evidence.

We'll know soon enough.

The Barbieri-KNBR/Cumulus Settlement; Response from Angela Alioto

The Ralph Barbieri- Cumulus/KNBR settlement--reported here first--has generated a ton of e-mail. We'll address that in a future posting.

Just got a text from Barbieri attorney, Angela Alioto, who gave me this statement:

"The matter has been resolved. The terms and conditions are confidential."

Under terms of the settlement (normal legal confidentiality), Alioto would not disclose the amount of the award although a source familiar with the details of the agreement told me that the figure was $4 million. The source spoke on condition of anonymity due to the nature of the case.
