Hey, Big Coach John Madden Is Lighting Up Fireworks in Dublin On The 4th of July Even Though Fire People Say No-No; (KCBS Audio); Boom!

 California and its people are suffering one of the worst droughts ever.


And fire fighters everywhere in the state are in full anguish over 4th of July fireworks that could become troublesome for this parched state.


I'm not talking about the public displays...more the neighborhood block parties where people shoot off "safe and sane" fireworks, just like John Madden. (Take a listen on his KCBS show).


I'm not crucifying the Big Coach, just what with all the fire people saying these activities are prone to cause house fires, I find it somewhat amusing and possibly scary.

John Madden Gets Pissed at KCBS SF Morning Anchor and Uses the Term 'Defenseless Player' At Least 17 Times

 

John Madden seemed cranky, listen up, on his KCBS radio bit with Stan Bunger Thursday Morning.

That happens from time to time for the big coach, only in this case he was noticeably irritable and it wasn't a usual lame ass radio bit.

He also used a certain phrase, (defenseless/defenseless player) at least 10 times, maybe more than 17 times, I stopped counting.

John Madden calls out Steve Bitker on KCBS; And gives out a Shout for Oakland; Rips Warriors Proposed Move to SF; Friday Starter

John Madden confronted a justifiable IN-YOUR-FACE  to a clearly flustered Steve Bitker on KCBS Friday morning.

Good for the coach.

Talking about the now-concluded Warriors season, Bitker, towing a company line about how the Warriors will have more fun and pack the new arena in SF, (I'm paraphrasing), was put in his place by Madden.

Madden thought it was a sham that despite the Warriors packing the Oakland/Oracle Arena, they'd be moving across the bay, (we'll see), to SF. Bitker was incredulous. So was Madden.

Madden seemed pissed off. "How do you, (Bitker), know they'll be a 'success in SF--What about Oakland?"

Bitker finally acknowledged "your allegiance to Oakland, John." Gees, thanks Steve for your insight.

I like Madden. I like the fact that he bitch-slapped Bitker ON THE AIR. While the other SF Media sports lemmings dare lament the fact that Oakland and the Eastbay have SOLD OUT the building, made it the loudest arena in the NBA, etc, Madden, of all people, called out Bitzie, who should know better.

Madden doesn't do this for shock. He's irritated and so am I in case you can't tell. I realize, as did Bitzie, that the proposed move to the city is all about money and location but Oakland deserves better. It's Oakland and the ROARCLE fans that are taken for granted by the Warriors owners. Do any Bay Area writers or broadcasters talk about this? Madden got it right. Too bad the writers and some broadcasters are clueless.

More Madden: "You know, Oakland needs a win. " Coach, you couldn't have said it any better.

Jim Harbaugh's Long Toss to John Madden scores a Touchdown on KCBS

 

In an otherwise ordinary phone interview on KCBS Friday morning, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh threw a compelling toss to John Madden and the coach scored an audio touchdown with a two-point conversion for good measure.

Harbaugh was his usual Harbaughish--not exactly saying anything of note and being his usual, well, Jim Harbaugh--polite, but not really compelling. Suddenly, out of nowhere, he asked Madden a question.


"Coach, (Madden), 'what can you tell me as a first-time coach going to a Superbowl'"? Madden offered the following: "The team that complains the most, (during the week), usually loses...and the team that is happy to get there usually loses." Harbaugh stopped Madden, on the air no less, and began writing down Madden's missives. No, reallly, you could hear it, I'm dead serious. So was Harbaugh.

It was very enlightening. And better yet, it was genuine too, a moment that showed a different part of Harbaugh. And it probably caught Madden off guard, (in a good way). It most certainly made anchor Stan Bunger and sports guy Steve Bitker stop and take note. As it should have. Damn good radio and not a whiff of any gimmicks.

The entire few moments is one of the reasons why Madden gets paid a good deal of coin to chat every morning on the radio. It is enlightening and engaging. But again, most of all, it's Madden, (and in this case, ironically, Harbaugh too), that provided an interesting human element to listeners eavesdropping on a Hall-of-Famer coach talking shop with one of his buddies. Moreover, it was an authentic moment devoid of any sound effects or disingenuous chatter. And it worked.
