Exclusive: Andria Borba Still Away from KPIX News

STAR REPORTER, Andria Borba, is still absent at KPIX. It's been months now.

The CBS News/Bay Area featured correspondent, I told you recently, has been dealing with a massive case of "emotional burnout," mental exhaustion, as a PIX friend of Borba told me.

And Borba isn't expected back anytime soon.

"She's better, she's not as 'consumed as she was but this job can take a lot out of you," said another station source.

Borba's extended absence was serious enough that when she was not back for Feb. Sweeps, an important ratings period for the new year when stations have their first, yearly ratings report card, it created mucho stress for all involved--and for KPIX specifically as they have ushered in a new brand, courtesy their CBS O and O status.

Borba is considered PIX's top reporter--she's got a decade-run stint at 855 Battery--thus, her absence leaves a key void around the newscasts and staff at PIX is concerned about her status, personally and professionally.

Here's hoping she gets better and returns to work soon.

  1. Was it her job driving her nuts or personal? I know she is married not sure is it personal. Another VDLC!

  2. You weren't put on this rock to work yourself-into an early grave, nor stare into the mirror of regret, longing for what passed you by chasing the illusion of success. Don't buy into the lie.

    1. I enjoyed this post today. Tell us more.

  3. Her only choice is to leave the station if she is experiencing emotional issues. Speaking of emotional issues, those reporters working AM today and PM next week should be sniffing with odd job hours and bad sleep.

  4. I'm surprised she was overworked and became overwhelmed. I didn't realize that street reporters had such stressful jobs.

    1. I don't want to diminish the amount of stress that goes with that particular job. I do wonder, however, if some of Borba's stress is self-imposed. I.e., is she a hyper-perfectionist, overly self-critical, or does she have other insecurities and/or disorders that are seriously effecting her mental/physical health, ability to work, and overall life condition?

If her current situation is that debilitating, then it really seems like she should transition into a less taxing line of work.

  5. She's considered KPIX's top reporter by whom??? Not me or anyone I know. She belongs in Wichita.

  6. I agree with you Rich, as I do almost always, regarding Andria Borba being a good reporter. That being said, like "anonymous @3:16pm", I also didn't realize that street reporters had such "stressful" jobs. I mean, c'mon now, are you kidding me? Being a reporter ON TV, is stressful? I don't think so! The lady is or was, reaching prime potential as good ole Rich has pointed out in the past, that she is or was, a good reporter. And yet, she pretty much is chucking it all out the window, with this stunt about "emotional burnout or mental stress". I don't believe this for a minute. The is totally bogus. I think she should get a grip, and realize that she is lucky to NOT be in the "real world", but to be on TV. I DO agree that being at KPIX and its internal work environment, could be a real downer, but to be emotionally burned out, well, to me, that is just bogus.

  7. KPIX canned her, but they won't admit it.

  9. She seems like a kind-hearted, genuine and good person. She doesn't come across as arrogant or pretentious when she's on tv. But it's been almost 6 months since she's been on-air. Are they still paying her? At what point does KPIX cut bait and move on? If she's that upset and stressed out...maybe it's time for both parties to move on.

    1. (IANAL) I suspect Borba's situation will be under workers' compensation type of laws/rules/policies and a company via its HR/lawyers/doctors/arbitration/whatever will eventually be able to release a person from employment, with the employee becoming disabled from that employer of the job at that employer. There may be some intermediary steps in-between, such as using up one's sick & vacation leave, prior to actually going on disability pay.

  10. Andria is a wonderful writer. I met her once (coincidental) at a coffee shop and she was gracious and we had a good conversation about working in B'cast. I was impressed.
