415 MEDIA BREAKING...
I TOLD YOU, EXCLUSIVELY, that Gary Radnich and KGO brass (its GM, Tom Cibrowski) had an informal lunch in the back at Alioto's. Nothing of substance was discussed because it wasn't about business --just a professional schmooze and get-together, a feeling out if you will.
KGO has some money to spend to find a fulltime Monday-Friday sports anchor that is a name; more importantly, has a name and Radnich fits the bill. I don't know if they've lost faith in Larry Beil or that they want him to be a fulltime news guy but they clearly are looking for a sports-anchor centerpiece --something they presently do not have.
Cut to the news: Cibrowski called Radnich late last week and asked for a meeting (another lunch, this time at Kokkari) --near 900 Front where KGO studios are located.
Radnich doesn't have an agent and represents himself; if he OK's Cibrowski's lunch proposal there's movment, but so far, KGO hasn't made an offer and wouldn't be able to negotiate until Raddy's non-compete clause comes to end in Feb, 2020.
In no way is a deal nearing but both sides (in reality, Rad and Cibrowski) are talking and that's news in and of itself. Money is a factor (isn't it always?) but I doubt the two will break bread (again) for discussion about the baklava --(although it's pretty damn good at Kokkarri)

I love Gary Radnich. I might actually stay tuned when sports comes on if he were on Ch. 7. I already know all the scores I care about. I don't need a talking head to tell me. But Gary's take is entertaining and he knows his stuff. But he doesn't take himself or sports too seriously.

ReplyDeleteI don't like Business Lunches. I lose my appetite wondering what the real reasons are they we're getting together. Why do people waste time and money pretending to break bread together when they may as well just talk it out. Meet in person or on Skype. I don't need you looking at me chew and swallow my well done steak after 32 bites.
Not convinced that The Bentley's act would play well with Ashley and Finney. Perhaps that is what is holding up the contracts of KGO-TV's two best News team members. Keep the Rad out, and Dan & Michael resign more quickly.
