So what's gonna happen to Adios Pelota in 2020? Apparently, he's staying as I'm sure the Giants would've marketed the crap out of his farewell as that's their MO.
It looks like the new Las Vegas stadium won't be ready in time for next season. How receptive do you think folks around here would be to them playing another final season in Oakland or should they look for another temporary venue? (asking as not a sports fan)
Oakland needs the money, they'd sell out (no pun) in a sec. Personally, I'd tell 'em to leave asap. Also, factor in the A's who just might want them to split asap. From my understanding, the stadium in LV is on track to be done, so I'll assume they're el gonno, good riddance.
The stadium's roof assembly was supposed to have been completed in late June/early July. As of 12/1 it was still unfinished. That's not to say they are ahead of schedule in other areas to make up for it however.
Yes and no. He's hot and cold like the rest of us in life and our livelihood. It's also a matter of taste too which seems not to be a Bay Area flavor. I do find him a good radio listen because he's a great story teller and funny too. But like everyone else, he has his off days. Like you and me. We're all entitled to an opinion.
Hi Rich, love your old Oakland stuff, I'm from Oakland/Skyline also. What was your typical order at Kwik Way? I usually went with a double-cheeseburger, large order of fries and a chocolate shake. I still miss it.
KC, the greatest thing about Kwik Way was yes, the prices. But the burgers were the best "bad" burgers. The secret sauce was just AWESOME --sort of a Doggie Diner but better. My order? Two double cheese, one fries, a corndog and large coke. Yes, then a trip to the Grand Lake theatre to watch a movie and then call the cardiologist --love KW, now you have me craving a chicken and fries (best $2.50 bargain in the world)
"But the burgers were the best "bad" burgers." - perfect description, kind of like a great "dive bar", and yes, the sauce was great...chicken/fries in the big box was great, along with the prawns/fries. Now I'm craving it also.
Did "The CW" ditch their "Bay Area Nightbeat" format at 10 PM? If so, any backstory to that? And would that be an indicator, with regard to VDLC's future with the station?
She's (VDLC) become more a bomb day by day; as soon as CBS starts slicing and dicing, she's bye bye..."NightBeat" is such a trash I haven't watched I'll inquire about its future.
What are your thoughts on Luz Pena? She seems like a yippy little puppy to me who gets way too excited while reading her lines. It feels like KGO is just jumping on the AOC bandwagon by getting a look-alike. JD in SJ
Gabe: Glover replaces the Southbay reporter, (name escapes me) he's from Cleveland, haven't seen him yet...Jobina Fortson is looking for anything that will get her air time.
Rich, the anchors who work the a.m. What kind of money are they making? I'm guessing not much because a while back you posted what anchors were making and none of the a.m. anchors were on the list.
Nobody is making the dough they used to make anymore--lots of it has to do with declining viewers and declining advertising revenue. Time doesn't matter anymore but certain people with a name in big markets are still getting coin but that is fewer and fewer.
Hi Greg: thanks for being unrobotic...the 49ers ratings are gigantic --a 25 and 28 back to back weeks (Balt. and New Orleans) Bay Area is a football town especially in an area where home team wins (how coincidental)
They (he, Copes) are trying to get a $settlement. His lawyer, Angela Alioto doesn't like jury trials and would better prevail in a settlement but Cumulus is trying to string this out.
Initially< I thought he was lightweight and vanilla --as I watch him more, he's better than average --well, I'll say this, as a weather guy, I've seen far worse which I guess is and endorsement for Peck.
Any word on the failed experiment that is BJL on the morning KNBR show?
Listening to her "read" the hourly sports update is borderline unbearable - it honestly sounds like a 1st grader learning/seeing new words for the first time with each of her updates.
She's there --and you're right, she's so ridiculous and inept--to fill a role as a woman --for a male-dominated show. They've tried to include her in their silly, incomprehensible slots but she's so out of place, so dumb, etc. (I could go on) Her only worth is that she mutes the DUMB ass PMac, a clown who SHOUTS and adds nothing, they both deserve each other.
Just curious why the small PBS TV station KCRB (over the air 22.2)is able to provide interesting weekday prime-time evening programming such as This Old House, Ask This Old House, Woodwright's shop, etc , but the two larger stations, KQED and KQEH can't seem to do it. It seems like most of the two big stations' weekday evening programming involves ultra-boring retirement planning, cooking (like we don't see enough of that), and shows about bizarre health-improvement theories. And for the health shows, one show often contradicts the one that follows it. So why do the larger SF area PBS stations program like that?
People I know who's worked at KQED uniformly say management there is even more clueless than that of commercial TV. I wouldn't give a nickel to them because, like PG&E, they just spend what they receive for upkeep and improvements on themselves, and everyone else can go to hell. But fear not: KQED will never go off the air because the richer-than-hell can't-do-a-thing-for-themselves executives will make sure it never does. It is their personal piggiebank, after all.
Although not a Sussman fan, your question made me curious, so I googled Brian Sussman, and found out he writes a blog, he wrote a blog a few weeks ago, saying he was temporarily away from the radio due to a medical condition, but it was not life threating and he would be back. I wonder if Katie has mentioned something as to timing and reason. I don't listen to that show anymore, I use to turn in once in awhile, but couldn't stand the constant right wing bias, and when I move a few months ago, I could no longer get a clear signal from KSFO, so I don't have it on.
Here's an interesting RL-Like-Dislike take that leads to this part-question: Dan Noyes (RL Like) handing over most Circle 7 I-Team duties to Melanie Woodrow (RL Dislike)? I think going after the consumer bad guys for Noyes and even Finney on occasion might be an ideal personality fit for Woodrow.
So what's gonna happen to Adios Pelota in 2020? Apparently, he's staying as I'm sure the Giants would've marketed the crap out of his farewell as that's their MO.

Trevor; looks like status quo for 2020--after all they all need to feed the family, even Miller.

ReplyDeleteDoes Ibanez have a "thing" for married blondes?
Thanks,

I think he loves women period and has deep admiration for their upside, even their downside too. That said, the blonds catch his eyes, yes, O.D.
DeleteI see a lot of new, young reporters appearing on our local news. How much are these new reporters making ($)?
ReplyDeleteprobably around $80-100K depending on experience --a lot part-timers too who make far less.

Is disgraced KRON News Director Aaron Pero still married? Living with his wife? Separated? How about the Countess? Both have families, sadly.
ReplyDeleteNo, no, no, and no. The Countess? No. I'm being deliberately nebbish because I have respect for privacy. (Sort of)
DeleteTwo pathetic excuses for human beings. The Frank Burns and Major Houlihan of KRON.

ReplyDeleteAll the best to everyone this holiday season and in 2020.

ReplyDeleteFrom the horses mouth (sort of) absolutely NOT.

NEVER thought I'd say this, but *bless* Cumulus. Copeland is a leech and a phony, so phony he probably doesn't even realize it.
Rich- would you or anyone pay over $600 for a Chronicle subscription?
ReplyDeleteFrom PJ in Berkeley
NO and PJ, you could pay $580 less to me and get a 415 Media for a year and have 100percent more exciting and entertaining content.
