415 Media Exclu: Jessica Aguirre To Sign 'Short-Term' Deal and Remain at NBC Bay Area

Image result for jessica aguirre nbc bay area Jessica Aguirre, the veteran Bay Area TV News anchor at KNTV (NBC Bay Area) will be re-signed to a "short-term" contract and remain at the NBC O and O in San Jose, 415 Media has learned through a knowledgeable industry source.

Nothing is official but all indications are that Aguirre will sign a contract sometime this week.

The deal will involve a pay cut but will keep her at the station where she will presumably continue co-anchoring the 6 and 11 PM News with Raj Mathai.

"They've (KNTV) been actively looking at other options, but weren't able to get a deal done," said the source. "She doesn't have much leverage."

Aguirre has been in the Bay Area for two decades including KGO and in 2008 joined KNTV. Her contract status has been the source of intrigue during the past few months  --especially when it was learned KNTV actively pursued former KGO anchor, Carolyn Johnson, who decided to stay in LA.

Moreover, Aguirre, at 55, felt "freaked out" over her status at the station. 55, for some women in the TV News business can be viewed (unfairly, perhaps) as the beginning of the end. It's ruthless and unfair but it's a fact of life.

Fortunately, in Aguirre's situation, her popularity and fan loyalty probably saved her gig, for now.

What does the future hold? Time will tell.

  1. At 55, Jessica still makes me harder than Chinese arithmetic. Glad she’s sticking around.

  2. I rather see her than Janelle Wang or Vicki Nguyen. How on earth did Janelle landed a job from a host on KGO 7 with weatherman to main anchor.

To Surfer Dude, ethnicity is not a problem, the way they deliver is what all viewers care about.

  5. personally i really dont like nor care for her and have been put off by her clownish smile with a mouth big enough to put your whole fist in it. She wore some glasses tonight that just GTG! She looks more like a third wheel on a bad date.

    1. That's a result of her first facelift. She came back scary-looking after it.

  6. Jessica looks very thin lately. Her face is gaunt. There's so much pressure on news people to be thin and stay young.

  7. What does "short term" mean to you Rich? Sounds like the jury is still out on "old" Jessica.

  8. I side with 1:11, and LOL with 4:10. BTW, Nguyen's value has probably diminished since botching up the Presentation High scandal. With Aguirre signed, now maybe they can see that without support from her SJ community, Nguyen may have been shown the door after realizing there was no there there at the SJ Diocese.

  9. I am glad NBC Bay Area kept Jessica. Jessica does not look 55, but more importantly, she is extremely competent and their best female anchor.

    1. She looks like an older woman who has had lots of plastic surgery and botox. She looks to be between 50 and 70.

    1. Her husband works in LA too so a move back to SF might be problematic.

  12. Glad to hear she is staying for now. Very sad they would give her a pay cut. She is one of the better anchors we currently have here in the Bay.

  14. I find her tone unpleasant. I waited on her twice during an unfortunate stint in retail. She is not mean....but she’s not nice to the ‘help’. Either way, it doesn’t matter, I don’t watch that channel very often. Regardless of what is said on here, KRON is just fine with me.
