KTVU's Holmes Wants To Be Treated (And Paid) Like a Star; Wants Monday Through Friday Presence; Passed Over Diva Thinks Big Time

Heather Holmes wants to be treated LIKE A STAR!

KTVU (Fox2) may have opened up a hornet's nest by passing by certain air talent (like, uh, Holmes) instead opting for out-of-towners for new platforms and thinking old standbys will do for the weekday "Mornings on 2." Time will tell if they're right.

Meanwhile...Holmes has put her foot down (through a proxy) to management:

1. Pay me or I may trade me. (Figure it out)
2. Holmes wants "immediate" weekday presence --somewhere.
3. Through Insiders, Holmes feels as if she has leverage --although some in the newsroom think she might be overplaying her hand. In fact, I would say, What hand?
4. Holmes wants significantly more money. (Good luck with that)
5. KTVU, though Fox2 management will dismiss this, is talking about playing hardball.

Stay tuned.

  1. Arnold is not very good--watched her subbing for Julie H. last week and she's not ready for prime time, or anytime, really. Holmes is definitely better than her. Now wrt Gasia, she's good, very good--guessing Julie H. felt she was a threat (Gasia did great whenever filling in for her on 10 o'clock news, IMHO).

All that said, Holmes is good, but she's not that good--if she presses, I think she'll be shown the door. BTW, Holmes is an 'out-of-towner,' too (from Texas originally).

Good luck, Heather. You'll need it.

    1. While it's true that Keba Arnold is not good during primetime, I can't see Holmes being anything more than marginally better. And that's a very thin margin.

    2. Keba Arnold is AWFUL. Sounds like she just learned to read and doesn't understand half of what she's reading. Which makes her ideal for Fox I guess. They like 'em young & dumb.

      Ok, Heather...

  2. Good luck to her, though her attitude is in no way backed up by her work. Remember the Berkeley High Prostitution scandal SHE BASICALLY MADE UP? (You won't find her report but here are a few reactions: http://www.berkeleyside.com/2011/12/09/cases-of-bhs-related-teen-prostitution-misreported/
    http://berkeley.accountableschools.com/blog/2011/12/11/thoughts-on-the-local-coverage-of-the-berkeley-high-student-prostitution-issue/)

Her reporting was SO BAD she should've been fired but she got luckily and it was forgotten (not so with Sum Ting Wong....) Anyway, this takes guts but she makes bad decisions and I feel this another one of those.

  3. No way, baby. Not attractive though some folks have some beer goggles on here; her delivery as an anchor leaves a lot to be desired; her "personality" comes across on TV as the diva you have described here; so what would be the reason to placate this overblown ego?

  4. Heather Holmes' opinion of herself is obviously way above what she deserves. Notice her non-attention grabbing scheme of suddenly switching to cleavage (actually, non-cleavage) attire over the past weekend. Her last straw? Yikes.

  5. Best looking thing they have, other than Rosemary. Pay her

  6. Heather does it LA style, with sex appeal. Not so with Keba....well I won't go there...but, K is not sexy enough for FOX.
Watching Heather tonight with Frank on the 5Pm... she is doing the rest of the night also with Somerville and I am tuning in.
However, I still think KNTV has the best staff.

  8. Former KTVU 10-year San Francisco GA Reporter David Stevenson abruptly left back in May when he was bypassed in favor of Mike Mibach for their new 4pm newscast.. I immediately think of Nancy Sinatra's great Number 1 song in 1966 "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" regarding Heather's demands. Keep up the great work Rich!

  9. If it goes to hardball, KTVU will prevail of course. But Holmes will bolt and make it somewhere. Yes, you could say looks are a factor but as keeps being repeated over and over again...this is a VISUAL business. And Holmes Social Media presence, though derided here by some, is exactly what NDs all over are now craving from their talent.

  10. Meh. She's nothing special. Good looking. Not an exception journalist by any stretch of the imagination.

  11. Everyone who lives here seems to be from "out of town." So few people are from here. Like your favorite radio hosts at KGO! Ronn Owens! Lenn Tillem! Gene Burns! Michael Savage! None of them are "from here." They just happened to be here for the length of their careers. Get over that stuff already.

    1. Much better looking than Jessica Aguirre, who anchors at KNTV. I think Vicky Nguyen and Kira Klapper can move up (in local news).

  14. She's a "10 at 2" and "2 at 10" type.

  15. Heather Holmes is beautiful and does a great job of anchoring and reporting. She is one of the standouts at KTVU and they are lucky to have her. I hope that they treat her well for a long time to come.

  16. I caught the 4 PM news on 2 by accident. I stopped watching them a few years ago because I thought I might get shot if I stepped outside my door but I still tune in for football games and baseball games. The 4 PM news was horrible. Keba Arnold was awful and the news stories if you want to call them that were just horrendous. I was a fan of Heather Holmes and Ken Wayne then something happened at 2. Lots of crime. Stories so short that if you blink you miss them. No thanks.

I'd go ahead and rip the other stations while I am it but I need to get my kale caesar salad for lunch...

  17. I have no problems at all with Heather Holmes.

Keba Arnold does come off a bit amateurish. Definitely an affirmative action hire.

  18. Heather is a pretty great anchor/reporter, and looks darn good doing both. Why the nastiness about her wanting a better contract? Who doesn't want a better contract? Everyone in the biz works holidays, weekends, OT, and wants to get PAID and promoted to feel recognized, so why is her behavior alarming to you or anyone else at JLS?
Fox would be wise to keep Heather and get rid of many others they currently have on cam. And no, this isn't Heather... I've worked in news for 20+ years and give credit where credit is due.

  19. I like Heather Holmes, all of the other female talents have moved on to other markets! Carolyn Johnson, Marla Tellez, Cecilia Vega, Evelyn Taft, Janice Huff, Samantha Mohr, etc....
We can't expect a Norah O'Donnell or Trish Regan to be anchoring at KTVU (although KNTV has Peggy Bunker from ABC News).

  20. Give Heather credit. She has slowly but surely moved away from wearing animal print on air, especially after the demise of Cecil The Lion. Nonetheless, Heather has a lot of guts to give ultimatums. If I were FOX management and with the unfortunate memory of snot-gate still fresh on my mind, I would ask Heather to hit the road and take her Kleenex on the way out. She's hot, but not THAT hot.

  21. Heather Holmes should expect to follow a path to daily anchoring just like Leslie Griffith anchored weekends then to days after Elaine Corral unraveled. They said LG was "too pretty" (so must be an intellectual lightweight) to anchor next to Dennis R. They were just biased agin beauty & brains & talent & charisma in the same female body. They were wrong about Leslie -- who was great -- and are wrong about Heather: they've got it all. KTVU: tell JH to retire for her health and promote HH to permanent nightly anchor now, before Heather follows the lead of KGO-ABC7 Carolyn Johnson a year ago. Are U daffy?
