LA Media Coverage of Firestorm Puts SF to Shame

40 comments:

  1. Seeing a reporter holding a garden hose that was refilling water in a fire truck was enough for me. Whatever happened to the 7.5 Billion voted on for Prop 1 water projects? Disappeared like Newsom when confronted by one of his constituents yesterday, pleading for answers. Faking a phone call from Biden, then even lied saying he didn't have cell service. Criminal Dumbass!

    1. All the water in the world would've been a challenge against 80mph wind gusts.

    2. 3:47. See 3:16. There's your answer.

    3. @3:47 Still better than having no water?

  2. Day after day “the fire is out of control”.
Wake me when they have it 50% contained, and then 100% contained.
Do I really need to know Paris Hilton and Billy Crystal lost a house, while Tom Hanks narrowly averted disaster?
I feel badly for these folks. It is a tragedy. I do not need to hear the Mayor/Gov yakking away day after day.
2 minutes of coverage: here is fire map, as of 2 days ago, yesterday, today. Did it grow? Has it slowed?
EVERYBODY knows LA is a desert. Too bad CDF unfairly applies its bush/tree/hedge rules. In affluent areas it does not apply, the rich are above the law.

  3. LOL... you're telling me LA's coverage of an LA disaster was better than SF's? Shocking!

    1. Totally-- what a silly point to make. Wait... Bay Area news coverage of a Bay Area story is better than LA coverage of an LA story? Who knew :)

  4. Erin Burnett doing a live interview of a homeowner seeing her burnt down home for the first time has to be the most distasteful interview ever.

  5. LA has night drops . Nor cal does not. What a joke.
That female morning anchor on LA7, Brown I think her name is, is a real looker.

  6. The fire is concerning, but an ever bigger problem here is why Heather Holmes has now been off KTVU for three weeks.

  7. Is it supposed to be surprising that LA media did a better job of covering their own fires than media in other locations?

  8. your stuff would be better WITHOUT the police comments and name calling.

  9. Rich, I just listened to KNX for a half hour or so and thought they are doing a good job. Interviews with locals was very good.

  12. You could have endless water with no water pressure problems and still not stop the fury here fueled by 100 mph Santa Ana winds..

    1. Exactly! The finger pointing especially from Trumpies is ridiculous. There is nothing firefighters can do in 100mph winds unless they are looking to perish.

    2. @5:02. It wasn't a 'Trumpie' that sat on his hands for 6 hrs before issuing an emergency declaration. Acting Mayor, second ass-wipe in charge Marqueece-Harris Dawson's monumental failure and inaction caused much of what you see today. Plenty of blame to go around dipshit and it has a 'D" next to its name. Folks would have been better off with Rick Caruso. Palisades Mall, still intact. Know why? Caruso was the former president of the Department of Water and Power. Some people actually know what the fuck they are doing. They sure as shit ain't Dems!

    3. The only one who sat on his ass for hours was Trump while his supporters attacked the Capitol.

    5. 8:58. We're discussing the fires here. Focus moron! Deflection is all the left has. Clips empty and its a bad look.
No banjo? Get fired from your Glory hole job?

    6. You’re not discussing the fires. You are playing the sophomoric blame game. As if “raking the forests” would’ve made a difference when 100mph were blowing through L.A. when hurricanes decastate Florida I don’t hear you idiots bitching about how Desantis could have and should have done more. Now go back and keep injecting your bleach

    7. @12:38 There have been Santa Ana winds since I was a child and I am 70 years old. Forest management would have helped immensely as would water. Bad leadership .

    8. @9:37 stop day dreaming about the “good old days” there are now credible reports that one of Edison’s electrical towers sparked the initial fire. Combine that with unprecedented winds which even veteran firefighters said they had never seen…8 months of no rain…come on wake up and stop pretending Ronald Reagan or George Deukmejian could’ve done better.

  13. They’ve been covering the disaster 24/7 with news choppers in the air as well as actual professional cameramen and reporters on the field. I can not imagine any SF station being prepared to do this type of coverage especially KRON with all their layoffs etc. does anyone really think the divas at KTVU or KPIX with their trendy outfits would get out on the field in a firestorm? HELL NO!!

  14. So,Governor Newsom? Why did you eliminate over $100M in fire prevention programs in CA?

    2. Wow, how eloquently said. I am still wondering if you are the same “Will the Thrill” or variations thereof who posts so really weird off topic shit. Rich always posts all your comments for some reason. Do you get high on occasion?

    3. 7:48, I’ve never seen any weird odd topic shit from Will the Thrill. He (she?) is always on point with sports takes and general media stuff.

    4. Not for nothing but I’ve also never seen anything remotely off topic from Will.

  18. SF is a big town not a major city. Our news is like Kansas City or Little Rock. We’re not a major metropolis like LA, NY, Philly or Boston. Our local news is not ready for prime time.

  19. The whole KPIX meteorology team did a great job (and many others I am sure) of covering the wildfires. Paul Heggen really has a sad and heavily concerned face most of the time all because we won't be getting rain anytime soon. At the end of a weathercast at 7PM this past Thursday, he said "Another update on the Kenneth fire after the break" leaving him with a very sad face. Paul does great on the forecast and has tremendous but he is really a "sad face" person, wooden and awkward. Darren Peck and most others have more personality despite handling the serious situation with grace and knowledge. I wish the CBS Chief meteorologists both in Minnesota and San Francisco would trade places because the one in Minnesota has far more personality and also direct but engaging.

On a serious note, my heart goes out to the folks in Southern California dealing with wildfires. My coworker lives in San Gabriel and that's not far from Pasadena but luckily he is safe but still concerns. I pray we seriously get some rain but even while the rain will put a damper on the fires, rebuilding and the fact the homes are lost are permanent - the emotional scars are real. Praying for rain and the victims.

  20. Enjoyed seeing Paul Deanno again as I streamed KCAL news from LA. I love streaming out-of-market stations that are local to huge news events.

  21. Youtubers are better reporting the fire than any media outlet.
