Why is Marty Lurie So Prepping Up Glen Kuiper on KNBR ?

  1. Thank you for calling this out. That entire family is a pathetic, nepotistic joke. Slusser would be first in line to torpedo anyone else who'd done such a thing. Sad that Lurie has been pulled into this.

    1. Great comment regarding Slusser. She is an embarrassment to the profession.

  2. My guess is they remained friends from Marty’s days with the A’s.

When someone is a longtime friend, you overlook their warts and failings. (And hopefully they look past yours !!)

But in 3.5 weeks, both the A’s & Giants will be on vacation, along with the broadcast crews. It has been a weak season for both teams.

    1. The Giants have been a bore the whole season, but the A's have been young and exciting, especially after the all-star break.

    2. @10:55 the A’s win loss record says otherwise. Both the A’s and Giants are lousy this year. Below .500 is neither exciting nor interesting.

    3. @12:38 PM. Yes, the A's are well below .500 but had the second-best record in the AL since the All-Star break. They also had three walk-off wins during the homestand. They have scored 20 runs in a game three times this year. You are not paying attention to make a comment like that.

    4. @12:38 the A's last year were definitely "lousy," but this year's team has been exciting. They have won three Player of the Week awards and are one of the best teams since the All-Star break. You haven't watched many A's games if you think they're not exciting.

    5. Those young and exciting A's are definitely on the move.

The A’s winning player of the week awards is just like the Dodgers having the best record in baseball - when it counts, they’ll choke. Sorrowfully the Dodgers will be in the playoffs while those “exciting A’s!” Will be sitting on a beach counting their money, dreaming of playing in Sacramento.
There are few teams lousier than the A’s in the American league. Excitement does not translate into wins, at least this year. But Fisher will trade away the exciting players and bring up cheaper hungrier prospects.

    7. Thank goodness the season is coming to a close. I am so tired of the Giant broadcasters. Amateurism on the radio with FP
and homerism on TV with Kruk & Kuip. The most asinine comment by any of them, however, was last Thursday when
Fleming said that Matt Chapman had a chance to go to the
Hall of Fame. Chapman has a .242 career average and has averaged 170 strikeouts per season over the last 4 years. Moronic!

    8. @9:49 Hi Giants fan.

    9. @9:52 AM, you are right ! The SF Giants STINK from FP to the Mendoza line hitting club. Had to laugh, Zaidi said “the Giants have the best rotation in baseball!” This guy is smoking some wacky shit. Let’s see, Giants cannot: hit, bunt, steal, field, communicate, hit for power, or keep talent. Add Ritzo and FP to the mix and it is Crappola radio.
Melvin is over rated. But we just got Chapman for 6 years at around $50,000 per plate appearance. Does anyone remember when 3rd basemen were power hitters?
And don’t get me started on the 62 and 82 A’s.
In the immortal words of loser coach Mike Singletary, “I want Winners !!”

  3. Mostly agree here, but I wonder how much influence Marty has in bringing in guests/co-hosts, as his on-air time has gone from 7-8 hours per weekend day to just barely two hours. He once hosted the entire pre and post game shows, and now only has parts of the pre game show on Sundays.

  4. I'm tired of both Kuiper's. As I said previously, since Glen said the word twice on-air, either he's a racist who uses language like that and it slipped out on-air, or he has Tourette's or something similar, either way it's a problem if talking on-air is your profession. If you disagree, I'd like to hear an alternative explanation.

    1. there is a lot of speculation about the former in the media backchannels from what I've heard, This is stuff that sadly can't see the light of day

  5. I agree with you. I too listen to the show. Fans who follow the Giants and 49er know about them. Glen is all A's. Grep Papa is all Raiders. Ray from Sunnyvale

  6. It doesn't surprise me that Susan Slusser would do a puff piece on her former A's media buddy, Mr. Kuiper. Rich, you haven't reported this, but I am surprised she is still covering the Giants depite having been involved in a relationship with manager Bob Melvin's daughter in the not-so-distant past.

    1. That would be difficult, as she is married to Daniel Brown, who writes for the Athletic

    2. They are divorced.

  7. Speaking of sports, what happened to the KTVU sports department? Seems like all sportscasts are now handled by news reporters.

  8. When you say it once, that's bad enough! But twice!!!

  9. Is Joe Fonzi back kind of odd he did a report on Cal Football and nothing on air since?

  10. Slusser is a switch hitter. Relationship was/is huge conflict of interest.

  11. @2:06 PM. I don't see how the Chronicle can allow her to cover the team in any capacity. Rich, your thoughts?

  12. The real travesty is Marty still bringing clowns like Carmen "Fangurl" Kiew & "The Giggler" Kopey Kopes on his weekend show. What? Bailey O'Carroll wasn't available? Joke!

    1. Bailey O'Carroll was too busy offering her 'insights' after last night's 49ers game, which included noting that Jake Moody was 6-for-6, CMC didn’t play, and that she had 'talked to' Kyle Juszczyk after the game, giving viewers the impression she had conducted a one-on-one interview with him. Hardly. Immediately after claiming she had talked to him, the broadcast cut to a post-game press gaggle where Juszczyk was at his locker, answering questions from over a dozen reporters huddled around him with microphones shoved in his face.

    2. For the love of God, GET "BEATLE" BAILEY O'CARROLL OFF OF SPORTS. She does a terrible job and brings nothing to her reports. Interviewing "Juice" at this locker is a leap from talking to him making it sound like interviewed him one on one. Does she even know what his nickname is? I bet she wonders "Why is the crowd booing him?" Do better KTVU! Bring back Joe Fonzi!!!!

  13. I have to give Bill Laskey some advice - stop it with Andrea the Wind-Bag astrologer. It’s silly and stupid and lame all at once. Do the stars predict Casale hitting .209? No but Saturn is hitting Mercury on 280.
Pure hogwash, a waste of airtime.

    1. She's a sweet lady, but having astrology with every sports call is too much. She does the same thing with Chris Townsend on the A's post game show.

  14. Lurie and Glenn Kuiper go back to the A’s days they’re buddies.
