It's simple: Betty Yu was burned out. Tired. Wanted to move on. So she took a 90 day personal leave of absence. When the leave expired she formally announced her departure. We will all soon find out if she sought and/or found a new job while she was on her personal leave.
If Betty doesn't respond to you, then you should just move on and respect her privacy. You've talked about Betty on many occasions since the new year and it now has a stalker-like feel to it. It's time to move onto the next topic.
I agree. While Rich's coverage may have been entirely in the spirit of reporting on a longtime Bay Area tv reporter (Yu), I could see why some, including Yu, might feel as if turned into an unhealthy obsession or fascination. I know that's not your intent Rich, but keep in mind that Yu and other women may have felt uncomfortable and uneasy by your level of coverage.
Oy. What a budinski! You're not that important, bubbala. You're an angry little man sitting in his untidy bedroom trying to be relevant. You're not. Let Betty and Finney drive their careers as they wish. A lot of time, certain HR negotiations require silence. If you had a real job, you'd know that.
What's with giving the station addresses out in your comments? You could just say "in San Francisco." You don't give out KNTV's address. You say "NBC in San Jose." Schmucky move , Lieberman.
Why so she can rock the cradle, cook three meals and tidy the house so it's on apple pie order when hubby gets home? Women do marry and bear children AND work these days. Sheesh.
L Melendez is a reporter who does not draw attention to herself. She reports the news. No plunging necklines, no short skirts. A consummate professional. Roll Tide.
Jesus... she is just a GA reporter for gods sake. You are acting like she is some legendary anchor. Who cares. She decided to leave for whatever reason. Move on. She is not a "big deal", no disrespect to her. Reporters come and go.
Exactly my point! I watched her on a couple of occasions and never understood the obsession with her. You’d think she’s some news legend. All I need to do is look at her docual media to understand she’s all fluff
Competent reporter but nothing special. But she does live for her social media posts. Reporting was getting in the way of going to high society gigs and posting on IG.
1:39 PM, I work at PIX, and your comment is spot on and perfectly stated. Good, but not great is how I'd describe her. She got her job done, as does everyone else. Where she excelled was in optics and presentation. She always looked the part and spoke well. Betty Yu is the perfect example of the "halo effect," a cognitive bias that suggests people tend to perceive physically attractive individuals as possessing other positive qualities, such as intelligence, competence, and subject matter expertise, even when direct evidence for these qualities is lacking.
Let's be real, Yu wasn't some kind of larger-than-life reporter or personality. She was a general assignment reporter who did her job well, as do many, if not most, general assignment reporters, for the most part. In the grand scheme, Yu's contributions were to be respected, but she wasn't groundbreaking or earth-shattering by any stretch. She won't be remembered or talked about for generations to come, overshadowed by those who truly leave a lasting impact on their field.
I don’t really watch KPIX much and aren’t really familiar with Betty. From her photo she looks like she may be transgender (male to female). It would be a shame if she left Bay Area media because we need more, not less, transperson representation.
Say whatever you want about Brian Hackney, smug or whatever. But more than him being a solid anchor, I really enjoyed his eclipse story. He went all the way to Maine (via LAX, EWR) & saw it. But throughout his documentary, he asked a McDonalds employee on seeing the eclipse & was so kind to offer an elderly guy eclipse glasses for free.
I’m sure outside the newsroom he is far more kind.

ReplyDeleteAre we thinking Brian Hackney is on the same path too? Even after his arrival back in March, he eventually went back to being off again.
DeleteI know it is just 1 weekend but we have to observe what happens over the next couple of months.

ReplyDeleteIs she pregnant, getting married soon? Maybe one reason why she quit KPIX

DeleteNo offense but most local female news personalities want nothing to do with you. Sorry just being honest.

DeleteI worked with her. She's a nice person, but no big deal as a reporter. More interested in posting shit on social media than researching her stories.
