Thank god! We can finally stop with all the drama surrounding Ms Yu. Btw is she from family money? Outside of Julie Haener I’ve never seen any other reporter on social media at such glitzy places with expensive clothes on. Just based on that she loses credibility as a reporter in my eyes.
Social media is a direct reflection of the person’s psyche. You want to be taken seriously as a reporter then get off the dopey self absorbed nonsense created by evil doers like Mark Zuckerface. Did you miss the congressional hearings on the evils of social media? Obviously.
We all saw this coming the moment she went on leave. This whole 'illness' story was the dictionary-definition of a red herring fallacy. Stop your continued reporting that the 3 month was tied to this mystery illness. There is no evidence to support this.
I've been leaving comments here since early January that fellow PIX employees had serious doubts about her story, with some saying she was full of shit. As time went on, that became the prevailing sentiment. To look at this story in a vacuum is the epitome of irresponsibility. What those of us who actually work at PIX know is that in the few months leading up to her leave, she seemed less interested in work, less engaged, and seemed to do the bare minimum. She seemed to be distracted and checked out as many other employees here noticed in late 2023, BEFORE she went on leave. It was a noticeable difference. Those of who lived through VDLC, Borba and Medina began to get similar vibes from Yu in the Fall and early-Winter. So, when she posted that cryptic photo of an arm at the beginning of the year, there were some here who immediately predicted this was the beginning of a VDLC or Borba situation, implying Yu would use this as some cover story to leave. And as her leave went on, that became a prevailing sentiment. For the most part, no one here expected her to ever return to PIX's air. These suspicions were further validated when she stopped communicating with most people, but not all. There was also rumors that when she spoke to people she outright said she was giving people slightly different facts so as to reduce the chances of leaks. Good riddance to Yu. She was good until she wasn't.
Yep, definitely much more to this story that no one of know. My spidey sense is that she took the LOA for personal reasons (nothing to do with an illness) and did that social media post at the beginning to set the stage for what she knew would be her disappearance from the air for a while. The old adage that two unrelated things can be true at once is probably the case here: she may have been sick for a few days and she maybe been burned out on work and had the leave in the works.
I am slightly shocked as people can become ill; go to the hospital; and take off from work all the time; but once healed, come back to work. In this case, I'm guessing it's just mostly a coincidence and would have left anyway. However, sometimes illnesses might be related to being overly stressed, in this case if work-related, and becoming ill isn't as much a coincidence, and more of a reaction or indicator of a need for a change (in employer/career). We'll likely never know, but best wishes to BYu in whatever endeavor she decides to pursue.
She’s strategizing. My guess is she pops up on another local or LA station but in an entertainment program format. The news reporting wasn’t her dream job.
People don't spend an entire career at one company. Betty has put in 15 years and it's time to move on. This is all very very common in many industries. This is not breaking news. Betty will be missed. All the best to her.
Here's the deal...yes, you are 100% correct. Television is a visual medium. However, your sexist "tell" is palpable. Her looks were the FIRST thing you mentioned and then you spent more time than necessary explaining yourself. How about taking the same amount of time critiquing her abilities as a reporter and then saying she's attractive. You wouldn't do that with a male reporter. And that, my friend, is what separates the pros from the Neanderthals.
Rich, I would agree with you that she was the most popular reporter they had. Her demeanor was always professional and pleasant on air. I'm not familiar with her health situation, but I hope she's well.
I can tell you she was well liked in the newsroom, did good work and was kind. I wouldn't group all the medical issues and absences together, as we all know for a fact VDLC was a real drama queen. I don't know what ailment she was dealing with, but we will miss her!
Spending 15 years with any employer, especially in the same position, is considered quite lengthy in today's fast-paced world, regardless of the industry. Yu, being human, simply burned out, as noted by a KPIX employee earlier. The fact that she managed to stay for 15 years before deciding to move on is impressive in itself. The one concern here is whether Yu was honest about her reasons for her aBernice and didn't mislead or deceive KPIX. From what I've gathered on this blog, the TV news industry is relatively small, and everyone tends to know each other. If there were any inappropriate circumstances surrounding her departure, word is likely to spread quickly.
She has spent 10 years at KPIX and I have enjoyed her reporting.
Now this entire weekend Brian Hackney went back to being off again. I get he has an elderly father but could it be a sign that these guys come temporarily & all of a sudden just leave completely?
Maybe its one weekend Hackney was off again but I’m starting to think he’s going to be off longer or just leave the business.
No offense to BY, but who is Betty Yu? I watch news only occasionally - so I do not know BY. I hate to say it, but how/why could I miss her if I don’t even know who she is? I wish her well in her next endeavor, as befits anyone making a career move. It takes guts (and usually a nice nest egg) to pull it off.
Good news, I rather watch Sara Donchey beautiful lips and looks than Betty Yu. Don’t see any beauty on her looks rather beast. VDLC, her single mommy image, negative personal life and attention on single parenting, illness is a bad example she should not be hired. She dare to use medical to grab attention off work, finding someone getting her pregnant lost it and attempt attention again like any low life begging for help except she is an anchor playing the dirty game no work get paid bad personal life.
I agree regarding Sara Donchey. It has taken me a while to appreciate her, but man, Sara is to me, like, just totally HOT! She does a pretty good job with the anchoring, but it has gotten to the point with me, that I pay more attention to her looks, with that hot black hair, those perfectly done lip-glossed lips, usually wearing a blouse that just happens to fall quite nicely, on the top of her luscious breasts, carefully unbuttoned just to the point of where it almost exposes her points of pleasure, then moving down to usually form fitting pants that accent as best as possible, her "round mound to pound". While it is not as round as it might have once been, it is still something viable to look at and dream about! I finally end with Sara's appetizing and appealing feet and toes. On nights when she is wearing open toed shoes, well, it just completes the package that she is hot from head to toe!
Donchey looks like plastic and if you look closely she’s cross eyed. How is that hot? I find myself actually watching KPIX when she’s NOT on like last night. Goodrich does a great job and interacts with her colleagues nicely which reminds me: kudos to that kid doing sports Matt Lively. Once you get past his Norman Bates resemblance he actually is well prepared and engaged.
"Points of pleasure." "Round mounds to pound." Hahaha. You just know the guy who wrote this is about 300 lbs and typing on his Ipad in his mom's basement with his drawers around his ankles. Sir, Pul-eeeze dont reproduce!

ReplyDeleteWhat a stupid comment. What does social media have to do with what a reporter does on TV?

ReplyDeleteThere is nothing special about Yu
ReplyDeleteI don't know? He's done pretty well with the Padres and at 37 has a career 3.58 ERA. He has performed well against the Giants.
DeleteShe’s strategizing. My guess is she pops up on another local or LA station but in an entertainment program format. The news reporting wasn’t her dream job.
ReplyDeleteExactly! She’s got the persona of an Entertainment Tonight! Type of “reporter”. She could glam up TMZ. That would be fitting.
DeleteWouldn’t be surprised if she ends up in entertainment reporting in LA. That suits her.
DeleteEither that or she’ll pop up as a social media “influencer”

ReplyDeleteYup. That’s how I feel. Was the illness legitimate? Was she milking it? Only she knows.
DeleteYes, good luck Betty.
DeleteBetty's husband is a lucky guy.
ReplyDeleteWell said!

ReplyDeleteIf she goes to KTVU it's like out of the frying pan and into the fryer.
ReplyDeletePossibly headed to Kron

ReplyDeleteYet Kenny Choi, Ryan Yamamoto and Sara Donchey remain...

ReplyDeleteI swear KPIX during the 11pm news reports more on the weather than on the news.
ReplyDeleteBrian Hackney took time off to visit the eclipse.
