Who cares about the hirings by the SF Giants? The proof will be in the ratings and in money brought in. I have no idea what their investments generate, but there most definitely is a certain “return on investment”(ROI) that they expect. Charles Johnson and his son “Seed of Chucky” have tightened the financial reins, and nobody is expecting better than 3rd or 4th place in division this year. But with $10 beers and $14 buck burnt wienie sandwiches, the Johnsons and Baers will be making Bank !!
During the 2022 season, following their 107-victory season in 2021, the Giants began charging $14 for a 12 oz domestic beer (brands like Coors, Bud Light, etc.). Then, before the 2023 season, as it became clear they would be mediocre at the very best, they dropped the price of these beers by approximately 35% to $9.
I haven't heard any formal announcements regarding the 2024 prices yet, but it's evident that their level of greed, and consequently beer prices, are influenced by their anticipation of the team's performance, or lack theirof.
So too cum, a messy ceasefart. How hummus is getting spicy in this titanic apocalypse. I’m tori ganes live in san franfrisco, I mean the stupido, studio.
Nepotism has a negative connotation, but in the tech world, it's called networking and definitely very common practice for getting your foot in the door. In Glen's case, he's qualified to do the job, so Duane is merely putting in a good word for his brother. I tend to think that nepotism is more closely associated with people who aren't qualified for a job. (eg. Ivanka Trump given an advisory role in the WH under the former administration)
Actually, I stand corrected. The Glen/Duane situation is a form of nepotism, where the Ivanka Trump situation is a form of favoritism. Below are the descriptions:
Favoritism is a form of bias in which a person in a position of power or authority shows preferential treatment towards an individual or group. This preferential treatment can be based on personal relationships, friendships, or other non-work-related factors, rather than on merit or job performance. Nepotism is a specific form of favoritism in which a person in a position of power or authority shows preferential treatment towards their relatives, typically in the workplace. This preferential treatment can be based on the familial relationship rather than on merit or job performance.
30 runs, 37 hits in today's game vs. Reds. No TV, no radio, no fun . What a jip. Too expensive to radio the game at least. Weak sauce. Kuiper and Miller cost a lot to broadcast I guess.
The Giants score 11 runs BUT give up 19. More to come. No, I mean more to come with that pitching roster! Farhan, just resign now. The ownership group seems to be going by the John Fisher playbook now so it is not all on Farhan, but mostly.
@9:39, I think it's tough to put all the blame on Farhan. After all, he orchestrated the 107 win team just a few years ago. This year's team looks very average to below average, but payroll-wise, they're #13 out of 30, so they're spending money. They're trying to sign big free agents, but none of them want to play for SF. When the Giants won the WS, they had a lot of home grown pitchers. Now, they only have a few. In the end, Farhan will still be the fall guy if they don't win.
So true Rich. Knbr with the snot nosed kids of some of the hosts in positions there it is a horrible development. And if crappy Copie is behind minimizing Marty Lurie he should immediately resign and get out of that place (Cope not Marty). Need more Marty not less for Gawds sake.
Show me a business without nepotism and I’ll show you a company that’s out of business! Even with Civil Service nepotism works it way into highly regulated government institutions. People crying nepotism are just those who are too lazy or untalented to overcome it. You might have to work in Bakersfield before you get your gig in the Bay. Well, welcome to broadcasting kids. Re: Kuiper, the public and advertisers will speak. If major advertisers have a problem with him being on the air, then he’s toast. Nobody cares about what a couple of producers think … in any company!
Not only is nepotism common, it's encouraged at most companies I've worked at. When our team does hiring, our manager always asks the team members if they had any recommendations(referrals). Public facing job opportunities would only become available if there were no internal referrals.
10:42, same thing happens at my job. I guess all employees are sub-recruiters. It's a secondary duty with direct rewards. #1 - there's a referral bonus, at least for some companies #2 - there's familiarity with the person hired, so there's instant trust #3 - it saves time and money by not having to sort through and interview candidates.
Who is worse: the nepotists or their kin? In the case of the present “puts you to sleep Duane”, it might be him and not Glen. However, according to many in this blog and apparently 2 producers at KNBR, Glen is summarily determined to be a racist with a propensity to utter the “N” word on television. No one else after all in any ethnicity including Blacks thinks of nor utters such a word. Yes, throw him and his baseball knowledge under the bus. I don’t think Copey Copes is qualified for his Program Director job but I think as s Black man he is making a compassionate call to not to keep Glen off the air unless there is more to this.
Nay Knave !! Elmo Kuiper hates baseball and prefers wearing a cheesehead bonnet to a baseball cap. Gummo Kuiper is afraid of crowds, so unless he does the broadcast remotely, no chance of him gabbing on the radio. Roweena Kuiper has GIRD, so she’s out. The other family members prefer anonymity.
Please Kuip please stop already. Glenn blew it he used a word that if any of us used on live TV would black ball us from broadcasting. You can't hide what Glenn said accident or not. Putting Glenn on the Giants broadcasts says it's ok to get a pass if your related to the right people. What does that say for any other broadcaster that's not related to Duane Kuiper?
Keep it pithy, Richie - Glen Kuiper has a few gigs on KNBR and nobody know why or how... done

Interesting that you should mention beer...

It's gonna be a very long season for the Giants.

DeletePretty sure the Giants pay the announcers not the radio station. The decision to not air spring games is the teams

ReplyDeleteMarty Lurie is terrible an old man who babbles on and on When he comes on I know the Giants broadcast is over
DeleteMarty is the only reason to listen to that station on weekends.
