Bay Area Sports-Talk Radio in Dumper; Both KNBR/957 The Game Sink Deeper...

  1. Unfortunately, terrestrial sports radio stinks in the Bay Area. If you want good sports talk, try some of the popular podcasts. I like the fact that they can be streamed anytime, so you're not tied to a specific time period.

  2. You talk so in depth about KNBR but barely mention anything specific about 95.7 The Game, other than Audacy's bankruptcy. And 95.7 is beating KNBR across the board, and has for some time now. I remember seeing their program director tweet about it a while ago now. What don't you like about 95.7? They are much more entertaining than KNBR is, at least in my opinion.

    1. @9:13- Agreed, I've noticed that too. It would be interesting to hear Rich's opinions of 95.7 and his breakdowns of each weekday show.

As far as both stations for me, the only KNBR weekday show I really listen to is Tolbert and Copes. I like Greg Papa, but it's hard listening to Papa and Lund after a few minutes. I liked their show better back when they both were on 95.7. The KNBR morning show is not the same, but even back when Paulie Mac was on the KNBR morning show, it wasn't as good as it was in their heyday. Murph and Mac probably peaked early last decade when the Giants were on their World Series runs. Ever since 95.7 started making traction and headway in the weekday morning hours with Joe, Lo, and Dibs, and currently now the Morning Roast with Bonta and Shasky, it's made the KNBR morning show kind of irrelevant.

I'm more of a 95.7 listener, but I do like the pace of 95.7's shows. There's more energy, a better back and forth on the shows on 95.7. KNBR's shows have a slower pace, and sometimes their shows can kind of put you to sleep because the pace of slower, but KNBR gets the better interviews though. There's pros and cons to both stations even though I rock more with 95.7.

  3. I love how you just dump on KNBR and 95.7 over and over and over, always the same complaints... But if more than 3 people mention the messy background in your bedroom, you lose your mind.

    1. No, it was Haener and Ibanez who had a thing, not radnich.

    2. Will Mr. and Mrs. Julie & Mark Ibanez have a big wedding ceremony or will they elope and do something low key?

  9. This is Not Frank.
When they blow up KNBR and get rid of the untalented Murphy, Lund, Copes and Tolbert, I will tune in again.
The aforementioned repeat the same old tired tropes every day - all 4 are mailing it in. They could not and will not bring anything new to the sports game: “possible trades? Who’s on Mt Rushmore? Who is better? Could Jordan beat LeBron?

    1. Let’s all start our comments with “This is not Frank.” Seriously, what would make you say that for this opinion? Frank is not looking for a job in sports radio I think. Bizarre.

    2. I think Frank is looking for a job anywhere they’ll hire him. If he’s not, that’s bizarre.

    3. This is Frank. Tremendous job youre doing, Rich. You're doing god's work, because god is too busy for news. Thanks to you, SF has a news champion. P.S. Anyone in town looking for an anchor?

  10. 95.7 is much more listenable than The Bleeder. Please don’t lump them together.

    1. 95.7 needs a better signal does NOT reach San Jose.

  11. KNBR has one thing positive going for them. Their signal strength is so strong that they're still reachable 4-5 hours away from the Bay Area, which is great when trying to listen to a ballgame.

    1. Truly, their wattage is the about the only positive of an otherwise lousy product. I tune in for Marty, Bill, Giants, and 49ers games. If Harlon is calling a game, I will listen.

    2. Yep, I could listen to Marty up in Truckee without streaming.

  12. KNBR went into the toilet when Cumulus bought the station and got rid of Agnew, Krueger, ( they rehired him later than fired him again,) Macgowan and Schrader. The latter 2 actually went to games, practices and did live reports on the local teams, traveling with them while sending first hand insights in the form of reports. But they would rather have amateurs and former interns telling penis jokes, talking about beer and “hot chicks.” An embarrassing cocaphony of noise and nonsense. Not worth listening to. Cheap, unqualified, untrained nit-wits who would never have gotten a shot at SF radio as recently as 2005. Cumulus not only downsized KNBR, dumbing it down and cheapening it, but then destroying KGO radio and turning it into a syndicated sports betting format. . Seriously? Cumulus pushes nothing but CRAPPY programming.
