McCarthy Voted Out as House Speaker; Local Reaction Muted --No KGO Radio; But Rothmann on with Thurston; KCBS Tonight

OUSTED!

Kevin McCarthy OUT as House Speaker

Historic day

Republicans infighting; Newt Gingrich says "GOP on suicide mission."

LOCAL reaction? We have none because there is no KGO Radio, what a crock.

John Rothmann with Pat Thurston on KCBS at 7: 30.

  1. Lots of hand-wringing by the members of the House, as nothing will get done. Watch the stock market on Wed Oct 4. This is NOT good news for our stock market investments. (My pension!)
Throw ‘em all out! That’s not governance, that’s just more temper tantrums by folks who do not belong in government.

    1. No speaker. No authorization to pass bills. It's going to be shit-show on steroids. We are all being robbed!

  2. Yeah, this is a sad situation...Bay Area has NO TALK RADIO.

  3. McCarthy was playing both sides of the aisle. Gaetz called him out on his ineffectiveness. That's it in a nutshell. Let's get to something more important. Why did Newsome "install" a Maryland resident, with a sketchy background as senator replacement for Feinstein?

    3. Back in the day tonight would’ve been GREAT radio on the KGO airwaves. Gene Burns would be settling into his seat at around 7:05pm to discuss ISSUES OF THE DAY and we’d all gather to absorb it all in and then call in to 8080810 to take him on agree or disagree. Unfortunately there’s nothing left except the usual cable outlets and the mumbling fools left over at KSCO (number 1 mumbler MZ and “Yoko Ono”…..someone wake me up from this hellish nightmare!!!) Is there anything worse than that yes man Dave Michaels over at KSCO? But I digress…

    4. The American people deserve a politician who knows how to compromise for their benefit. When jerks (geatz, trump, greene, and most of the GOP) don't get what they want, they throw temper tantrums like little kids.

    5. There is no "Newsome". Governor Newsom picked a black woman with a political pedigree( see Emily's list) who has a house here, but was working in Maryland at the time and who will be a caretaker until the election. Already running are three top candidates for the democratic nomination. They are Adam Schiff, Barbara Lee, and Katie Porter.

    6. Between McCarthy, Feinstein, her replacement, and of course Trump, we desperately need local talk radio. I’ll work for free if any station owner is interested.

  4. Do we really need local reaction tho? 1 sided snark and giggling doesn't really serve the masses.

    1. Well we have one sided snark and yelling on KSFO, Levin especially likes to yell. They are all one sided
.l listen to Tom Sullivan 1530 am, Sacramento, he is conservative, but not one sided, and takes calls from liberals and carries on a respectful conversation without yelling and getting nasty.

  6. Good, he should retire and enjoy life. Look at Diane Feinstein, work work work and never enjoy a retirement working for the heart of the people.

    1. dear 6:39 Some very fulfilled people love their work. DiFi who died figuratively "with her boots on" was one of those. That's not to be pitied. She would have been beyond bored to be on a cruise ship, or staring at a tv set..got it?

  7. She enjoyed the power all her life while she and hubby were living in a mansion in Hillsborough. Heart of the people? Come on.....

  9. Did John Rothman get interrupted by the traffic report on the “8’s”? Did he remind us all about his stint as a young cabinet member of the Nixon administration? Crazy to think of all the legends from the heyday of KGO many still cling to blowhard Rothman and Thurston. They were literally benchwarmers during the glory days.

  10. Beyond his historical knowledge, which is not a huge accomplishment when you’ve never had to work a day of your life, Rothmann is full of pompous bluster. He delivers platitudes and fairly obvious observations, but there’s not much in terms of original political thought. Having a deep voice and confidently making pronouncements doesn’t make you an expert analyst. Just look at his losing track record when it comes to making election predictions.

  11. When he needed 15 rounds of voting with concessions to be elected as House Speaker, that showed very little confidence in his abilities. It takes a very unique individual with zero pride or self worth to take a job in this manner, and then to ultimately lose that job and what's left of his dignity, as he took the long walk of shame out of the Capitol. SMH.

  12. Hope you're not planning ANY holiday travel through the New Year. Because, as of November 17th, the CR ends and Matt Gaetz and his 7 other moronic crazies are going to shut the government down! For, sure! Book your Donkey travel options now. HoHo!

  13. Several points to be made here. First of all, this whole thing reminds me of the debacle that happened when we left Afghanistan. There was no plan for the end game. If you are going to oust the Speaker, then common sense dictates that before you do, you should have another Speaker lined up who would have the votes for confirmation. This did not happen. Gaetz is a fool on this one.
Secondly, regarding the replacement for Feinstein, am I the only one who thinks the whole thing was RACIST? Think about it; Newsom announces that he will appoint a replacement for Feinstein and promised that it would be a black woman. Reverse the situation, and then wonder "what if" Newsom had come out and said "I promise to appoint a white man". The whole dang state of CA would be all over him, saying he was racist! And yet, he basically said the same thing by promising to appoint a black woman! Again, I go back to the infamous words of Martin Luther King Jr, who everyone in the black community seems to always admire, quote, etc, and one of the famous quotes from his "I have a Dream" speech was, "I have a dream that one day, little black boys and little black girls, will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character". Yet, here we are, 55 years later, and once again, we are looking at skin color and NOT qualifications, regarding this replacement senator!

    5. Kamala's seat should have been replaced by a Black woman and not Padilla. Padilla was given the seat and then ran for the office and got it. Newsom then changes the narrative and says he is going to put a Black woman in the position but not anyone who is running. Why the change? Most importantly just because he appointed a black woman does not mean she isn't qualified. Get a grip! There are no other Black women in the senate so one gets appointed and the racists come out on full force. Black women have never been anywhere they don't deserve to be.

    "Back in the day..."
There's the problem right there: "Back in the day" is long dead and gone...replaced by here-and-now. Though the death was sad, like everything else in life it was inevitable...another step in this concept called "life." I got excellent perspective on the whole saga from CNN and Fox news---watched on my Samsung S21 phone while enduring a boring night of recitals from my sweet 8-year old daughter and the rest of her 3rd grade classmates.
