St. Louis. No biggie but big enough.
I GIVE PIX GM, Scott Warren credit for trying new, innovative things--he's made 6 watchable nd that's a far cry from early days when PIX was severely lacking in basic news presentation..
Warren has instituted new energy at 8
55 Battery and that has generated mucho BUZZ and then some at the studio.

Lisa White, needs to gwt better reporters. Take the
CBS cash and get more grounded, Bay Area-centric street reporters to cover the turf. The new guys are OK but need more help to navigate the city.
Reed Cowan, I'm hearing, is headed to mornings and tat will do wonders come Sept. 1.

ReplyDeleteAt the moment, 3PM news is Afternoon Edition like noon (expected) but the commercial breaks & rejoins still use the custom Reed’s music (upbeat and cheery). The past couple of days it was done by Liz (sometimes Ryan will do it too). I would have expected Hackney to come into the new primetime biz starting Sep 1. Or even Devin Fehely.

Hackney is the only person in the room who could do any job at the station, and I mean *any,* not just in the newsroom or behind the camera. That's why they want to keep him in the basement on weekends.

DeleteHe's overqualified, but so is Gianna and Andrea. Is this a practice that they're putting the overqualified ones on the weekends? Even Andrea is field reporting at 11PM on weeknights.
Brian is not a sports guy. If someone wrote copy, he's capable enough and smart enough to ask name pronounciations. Net-net, sports is not Brian's thing.

DeleteThe reason I asked was because the poster at @6:14PM mentioned that Hackney can do ANY job as if he can do everything.
On another note, it is wrong of KPIX that they are just keeping him stuck to the weekends..Rich did say sometime back Hackney is not very happy with that.
Gianna on the other hand can do almost everything, one time back in April, when Darren Peck was filling in every evening for a week for Paul Heggen, one morning Burch was out and Gianna did the weather and did a great job (not an expert but she did pretty good).

DeleteI surmise that it is because PIX is the "preseason home" for the Niners, and KRON is the preseason home for the Raiders. This would not have occurred if it were a regular season game.

DeleteOkay I was reading the Yelp reviews & there is a lot of criticism towards Sara in terms of her outfits she is wearing; it’s terrible. The 11PM news is awful compared to the days of Bastida, Allen Martin, Hackney or Liz. Donchey is unprofessional and most of the news is wasted on unnecessary banter or her self centered opinions (Weekend 11PM & pre-Sep 2022 11PM news are much better).
Management needs to pay more attention to this. Last year in August on the 1st Friday was when Paul Heggen went casual. Then the way Sara dresses and how she presents the news is God awful.
Donchey & Nakano should switch places on weeknights and Andrea is excellent from the studio and out. Donchey being in the field reporting for a few mins is far better than watching her for a good 30 minutes.
I think Sara should move to weekend mornings in the future & put Devin Fehely during the week instead

I did see advertising today on KPIX for newscasts at 8 PM and 9 PM starting Sept 1st on KPIX+(former KBCW, aka 44 cable 12). Any idea who will be anchoring?
ReplyDeleteIf they have two brain cells it will be Anne Makovec. But they don't have two brain cells so they will probably recycle Sara Donchey and have her change hideous outfits between shows.

ReplyDeleteReally for the past couple of years, he should have been the face of the station after Bastida left. I like the way he anchors - professional, authoritarian, no nonsense, asks very good/sometimes tough questions to everyone. That's the definition of anchor material. It's very sad he's just on during the weekend mornings and field reporting.
DeleteIf he ends up on Primetime Edition, that's great. I also wish he was there at 11PM on weeknights, even if it's a fill-in.
Fehely is very good on the anchor desk. And no, I'm not Devin Fehely.
DeleteI enjoyed Justin Andrews when he was there, reporting and on the Morning show. Very professional, had a very good rapport with the anchors and folks in the building. Cracked many jokes, but kept the station lively as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteIf Sara Donchey ever moves to mornings in the future (unlikely at the moment), then she better learn to dress more appropriately.
I think KPIX is giving way too much leeway on how people are dressing that it is quite inappropriate - how you dress in the studio going live on the TV news vs. personal life are 2 different things. Management needs to think about this and let these folks know. I'm okay with tieless looks as long as there's no jeans on air.
I'm quite informal, but for some reason, seeing Paul Heggen doing the weather in a suit and sneakers feels very cringe.
DeleteSpot on! I feel the same way. The other problem - when you see him at the commercial break wearing a tan colored Spring blazer that means he’s wearing jeans. This is the problem on Fridays!!!!! It needs to stop.
DeleteNow I’m not the fashion police but in my opinion, a Spring blazer when wearing a collar shirt underneath is better with khakis any day. Mondays its very rare to see that in Heggen as every other Monday he is tieless with or without jeans. Last month on a Monday & yesterday on Monday he wore jeans.
It’s only a matter of time he’ll go all casual completely.
Look at Matt Lively on the other hand…No tie last night, but the suit jacket and pants match.

DeleteAmanda was there during the noon newscast. Usually that is done by Ryan & Liz (the only fill in I've seen at noon used to be Reed).
