PIX hired a newbie, someone locally-- Nicole Zaloumis, who has Atlanta roots, but nonetheless is now the morning personality with Reed Cowan.
In a new promo photo distributed by PIX, Starrantino is NOT seen. Maybe on purpose.
Which only further makes the San Diego rumor has more legs...so to speak.
Amanda has the perfect "look" for San Diego. The casting couches must be calling.

For Amanda Starrantino, when Jessica Burch first joined first on a Thursday noon newscast, I almost got confused with her with Amanda because Gianna & Len were on that day at noon. But I see that they both get along well. Amanda isn’t that bad as an anchor, fairly professional and solid, albeit very silly at times. The one time I did not like was when she was reporting live on a Sunday Morning from Bay to Breakers, speaking all kinds of nonsense acting full of herself. I mean you can, but also think of the others who are too.
DeleteBrian Hackney, agreed here too. Even 2 years ago he used to fill in on the 3PM & 5PM newscast and sometimes primetime. He should be permanently put on primetime, pair him up with Goodrich perhaps but still have the weather pets Heggen & Peck for fill in. Or give Brian his own show at 11PM on weeknights, but just with a simple feel of Evening Edition. If you replace Donchey with Hackney or Devin (send Donchey to the mornings), then the 11PM news will really have meaning; better yet Juliette can talk to Brian and goof around during the 11PM previews at 7PM with more chemistry.
Management should really think of their weekend anchors who are far more solid than weekdays, especially Devin Fehely, Brian Hackney and Andrea Nakano.
My guess is that it may still be in the works but nothing is solid yet. And they should hire at least 1 more meteorologist so that Darren doesn’t have to abruptly leave on Sunday after 7PM just to fill in the next day morning should Hackney be on primetime. NBC Bay Area is more organized in that regard.
The idea that Starrantino is more out of favor than Donchey Yamamoto just boggles the mind. Truly. KPIX has no clue...

I thought she was doing a good enough job, and got along well with her sidekick Jessica Burch, and her other coworkers. She was also Very Beautiful to look at, and I will Miss seeing her Pretty Face and Smile when I wake up in the mornings!! I know being Pretty, in getting a job, but believe me, it doesn't hurt to watch someone who is very easy on the eyes!! CBS does not know what they're doing, and I'm going back to Channel 2!!

Gosh, I hope she doesn't go to KUSI, everyone is bailing from the station with the Nexstar purchase -- absolutely no job security now as Nexstar plans on doin things on their on terms. Plus, the station is still reeling from the multi-million dollar lawsuit they lost after former anchor Sandra Moss sued in an equal pay dispute. Also, KUSI ratings are quite sub-par, basically in the cellar. A better fit for Amanda would be top rated CBS8 or FOX5 or NBC7.

DeleteThat’s the reason I hate him doing the weather. There are lots of details left out. Before Peck came in 2019, Hackney was doing both anchoring & weather (weekend evenings & fill-in).
DeleteWhen Heggen is out and Peck fills in, it’s good except for his condescending behavior. But I found Peck to still think of the viewers on factoring weather into their plans and explaining what is to be expected with in-depth analysis.
And quite frankly he is 65 years old, retirement age, Bastida retired around that. I hope in the next few years he calls it a career. He should retire!
Better example of who should fire the ND - Hackney, yes but also Devin Fehely since they are only put on the basement on weekends.
Let me add one more point. While this little detail will not matter to most at all, all CBS O&O stations are using new weather graphics for everything. But whenever Hackney does the weather, he uses the old weather headline graphics without the top saying “First Alert Weather”.
DeleteThis is a little minor annoyance. On a rainy day if he has to track the radar he quotes it as KPIX’s High Def Doppler when he is clearly out of touch with doing the weather when everyone else says First Alert doppler.
Last year in between Mary Lee’s departure & Burch’s arrival, Hackney used a very old pinpoint graphic at the beginning of the commercial break.
I hope he will either be a primetime anchor or retire completely. If he wants to do this reporting on National Geographic not a bad idea,

DeleteBrian Hackney, often put on the basement on weekends and rarely comes to fill-in, sometimes does science editor stories, but in person told Sara & Matt "see you at Christmas", but last year told Ryan and Sara "see you at Christmas", when last Christmas, it was Darren Peck filling in the whole week instead of Brian Hackney. It's possible but unlikely, it may be dependent on the morning schedules throughout the week and Burch was working that whole week. But also good since Peck covered the atmospheric river with precision and detail in the evening newscasts (I was away from town but saw it from archive.org).

ReplyDeleteA couple months ago Amanda Starrantino was constantly complaining about her boyfriend to any co-worker who was willing to listen. Apparently it became so frequent that co-workers who otherwise had no issues with Amanda would purposely avoid her when possible. At the same time there were rumors circulating (still unverified) that she was dating a woman she met through her work at kpix (not an employee). And now all photos of Amanda’s boyfriend have been removed from her social media.

ReplyDeleteI can confirm via Instagram & also on the 9AM news, that today is Amanda’s last day. She is heading to a CBS station back at home in SoCal. She wasn’t too bad for the most part but I didn’t like her in terms of her energy and attitude sometimes on the air. She could be a little bit boisterous at times when it is unneccessary. On another note I’m glad she is leaving, don’t think I’ll miss her. Nicole is a big improvement any day.
