It wqs thought Julie Haener would be gone by now, either just plain leaving, retiring, however you want to phrase it, only there she is and not leaving anytime soon.
Much to the chagrin of Holmes who's been anxious for more than a decade to take her place.
Then there's Savidge, one of KTVU's emerging stars--a real bona-fide replacement for Frank Somerville, but KTVU brass went to smirky Mike Mibach. The result? KTVU is hoping circumstances prevail and that Holmes and Savidge are reality on Channel 2 sometime this year and not on KTVU's sister station, KTVUPlus.
KTVU's 10 O'Clock News is barely holding on to ratings salvation and is being challenged by KRON's emerging alternative. It is hoped Holmes/Savidge will ward off any serious challenge by KRON and potentially others.
But as of now, a holding pattern exists.
*Meanwhile, something startling took place recently at KTVU's Oakland compound. News Director, Amber Eikel, who's having a hard enough time to get back cred from her already-pissed off staff, told a worker recently she'd hire a producer who has "no experience."Really, Amber?
And Eikel did just that.
Which tells you the state of the business today.
File this under "You can't make this shit up."
ReplyDeleteActually, file it under "This is what should have been done in the first place!"
DeleteNo experience? Sounds like every appointee in the faux administrations cabinet. Stupidity is indeed boundless!
ReplyDeleteKTVU probably needed to check the "deaf lesbian Eskimo" on their diversity hire list, and the only one they could find had, shockingly, no TV experience.
DeleteThanks for reporting on this chaos Rich. Glad I'm retired.
ReplyDeleteI worked with amber for years. She used to be great. But sadly now she is just someone trying to protect her job. And in the process she's run ktvu into the ground. She is surrounded by yes women. Mylynda hartnel the gm. Simone aponte to ep. Kellee Roman. The assignment editor. And Amy wentworth another ep. Together they have ruined ktvu. Getting rid of somerville and Ibanez has destroyed the station. Somerville made huge mistakes. But he was also the glue that held that station together. They could have worked with him. But chose not to. There are so many thing about him that he did for the station. But they'll never come out. I applaud the hell out of him for standing up about the insane gabby petito coverage. And he lost his job as a result. Now u have cookie cutter Julie and Mibach. Really. They're followers. Not leaders. Heather is a leader. Worked with her for years. Hardest worker at ktvu period. Alex. He's not there yet. Still asks too many typical questions. But he has a huge upside. I can only hope at some point ktvu realizes that. But mark my words as long as eikel and hartnel run the show nothing will happen. Sad but true.
ReplyDeleteHow did someone so illiterate work in news? I can't understand half your post. If they're hiring people like you it's no wonder KTVU's crawl last week mentioned the "U.S. Capital."
DeleteSum Ting Wong
DeleteI love JH HH.
ReplyDelete"News Director, Amber Eikel, who's having a hard enough time to get back cred from her already-pissed off staff, told a worker recently she'd hire a producer who has 'no experience.'"
ReplyDeleteNew hire: That's not how we did it when I worked at McDonalds...
Hey, this probably gave Jenny Selig an idea...
Ask Jenny about Mr. Guinness overnight.
ReplyDeleteLet wait until Julie son become a football quarterback for any NFL team, KTVU can beg her to stay using this to promote the station, even if CNN hire her a top spot, she will say "heck no" (I got the fame, no money will hire me to stay)
ReplyDeleteLOL! CNN wouldn’t hire her to mop the floor, let alone an on air gig!
DeleteJake Haener has about as much chance of being drafted on days 1, or 2, of the draft as Draymond Green winning the NBA’s Mr Congeniality Award. No doubt the kid has talent, but of the 90 or so quarterbacks that will be on NFL teams this year, he ranks about #450. I wish him well on his career selling insurance, no doubt he’ll be a success in/on that field.
Delete7:14am, you nailed it.
DeleteHaener is an incredibly talented QB. No doubt. And he seems like a very respectable and respectful person. But road to the NFL is paved with countless incredibly talented D1 QB’s who are lucky if they ever get the opportunity to hand out gatorade bottles on the sidelines, much less take a snap in a meaningful moment. That doesn’t mean they aren’t great, but let’s face it, the NFL is the elite of the elite, and Haener isn’t in that echelon. Don’t believe me? Five years from now look up Jake Haener’s NFL stats.
And I agree, there’ll come a day when he’s selling used cars or women’s shoes, while all the asskissers and sycophants continue to coddle him, treat him with kid gloves and tell him he’ll be the next GOAT.
Hey Dumbo & Dumbette (7:14 & 6:08), clearly you've already forgotten that Jake Haener earned his bachelor's degree. He's got the looks, he's got the brains, and he's got top-tier, NFL-level talent. Oh, and have you seen him spin the football? He's got the tightest spiral west of the Mississippi. That's a fact. JACK.
DeleteAnyway, have fun sitting in front of your computer screens talking shit about a 22-year-old who has worked his ass off to make his dream come true.
Thank you for sharing Julie.
Delete6:22, right? She’s not even trying to be discreet about it. Fun fact: her little johnny still hasn’t been drafted despite her telling anyone willing to listen he’d be a first round, top pick.
DeleteFor the past two days, ktvu has been running the same story about Haener, hyping him up, claiming he's one of the top NFL prospects this year.
DeleteBack here on planet earth, here's a young man whose dreams of being drafted by an NFL will soon be dashed. Time for him to dust off that bachelor's!
I don’t know - Mr. irrelevant did pretty well for the 9’ers. No guarantee for Haener, but I wouldn’t count him out either.
Delete211. You can't understand half my post. Instead of getting nasty. I'll ask you what part was hard for you to understand. And why do I think im illiterate. And yes I'm calling you out. I dare you to snswer. But we all know u won't.
ReplyDeleteBring on the Heather and Alex Show PRONTO ! Pretty soon the previous anchors will be forgotten, and we will start commenting on H&S’s chemistry looks like some gene exchange may be upcoming.
ReplyDeleteGive them a decent paycheck and turn off the prospective hire search.
456. Sun ting wrong. That's your response???? Seriously. Good all u people are just so clueless about what's really going on. You could have asked me any question. But that was yours response. Dude. Get a freakin grip.
ReplyDeleteFull disclosure, I work at KTVU (yes, I’m a survivor). There was a time when Haener was royalty. A goddess. Someone we looked up to and had tremendous respect for.
ReplyDeleteSadly, those days are long gone.
Now, most of us here are surprised Haener hasn’t quit already. While I have nothing against her, it’s widely known she won’t be missed whenever she finally decides to call it a wrap.
Tomorrow is the NFL draft and her son will potentially be drafted and become a pro football player, albeit a benchwarmer for the time being. For the past several months that’s all Haener has talked about, when she has bothered to show up.
Most here assume her departure will be imminent if her son is drafted. If not, it’s still only a matter of time.
“For the past several months that’s all Haener has talked about, when she has bothered to show up.”
DeleteThis is accurate but what you failed to mention is she shows zero interest in anyone else or their family, yet she expects everyone to give two shits about her Johnny.
TV news is a reflection of our dysfunctional society. What a bunch of morons. And folks, it's getting worse by the minute.
ReplyDeleteIt's to late. All of the sheep have their face buried in a gadget. Saddest places in the world? Any airport. Glad I'm retired.
DeleteHolmes and Savidge are the best anchor duo on KTVU—professional, ask solid questions and have a good rapport with each other.
ReplyDeleteIn defense of 2:11, you 4:53 sound like Frank and probably are Frank. Your original post was readable but rambling. You sure are admiring and defensive of him. If it is you, you had so many chances from what I hear and you drove that station into the ground at failing. Your Gabby issue is/was overblown and self-serving at that time as I doubt you can find an unreported identical or similar case as hers involving an African American girl missing while traveling with an abusive boyfriend across the country with his parents involvement in hiding him. There is plenty of and it seems complete reporting of crime including murders in Oakland especially on KTVU so the bias you say exists does not seem to be here yet you wanted to use your local news reader platform to opine on the travesty nationwide in reporting similar crimes. KTVU does not have opinion segments I believe in any case.
ReplyDeleteHeather Holmes really does a god job as she is smart, professional, up-to-date and rarely makes mistakes. When she reads copy it is crisp and clear and no one does interviews better. Mike is ok, even good at times but Heather runs the ship and will be the big star at 10 eventually. Plus, she is a reliable good soldier and proves that hard work pays off.
ReplyDeleteAlex and Heather would make a much better team than smirkmeister Mibach and robotic Haener.
ReplyDeleteI like Heather and Alex too because I believe that they are the best pair on local TV. Would miss Heather on 4 and 5 though as I don't stay up after 930.
ReplyDeleteHeather had great legs because she is a runner (like many female news anchors).
ReplyDeleteHaener shouldn't go anywhere; the girl's still got it. Some of us would still rather see a human being reporting the news after a looong day instead of a feral cat.
ReplyDeleteJulie Haener’s son was drafted by the New Orleans Saints. It’s only a matter of time before she walks out the door for the final time, giving Mike Mibach, Amber Eiklel, and Amber’s army of imbeciles the middle finger on the way out.
ReplyDeleteAmber Eikel is cut from the same cloth as Jen Seelig and Lee Hammer..soulless corporate stooges who do the dirty work for these predatory companies that have taken over radio.
