Julie Haener Very Much Misses Mark Ibanez; KTVU Duo Were Powerful Buds; More Intense Than You Thought

Julie Haener's diminishing role at KTVU has been mitigated by the absence of Mark Ibanez, the veteran sports anchor who split almost a year ago, (actually, told to split but that's another story).

Haener's role at Channel 2 is so insignificant now, I'm told, that her even showing up for work is considered a milestone.

And all about Mark?

"She's a wreck. She misses his guidance, his kinship, his friendship,", offered someone close to the duo.

Anything more than that?

Ibanez and Haener would often have off-studio casual din-dins at a nearby deli and sit alone. They talk shop but they also were quite cozy discussing their own personal lives, extraordinarily similar.

Ibanez was like a soul mate to Julie who often exchanged more than just biz chatter to him right there on the set during commercials. They both cherished one another's feelings and it became an intense relationship, still to this day even though Ibanez has been away from the scene almost a year.

Remember, it was Julie Haener who Mark very much wanted to do his exit interview from KTVU.

Haener is absent her best buddy--the only person that had a longer tenure than she does and a person she has deep, significant feelings, a true force in her persobal life and more than a mere buddy boy. It's beyond just plain work, my friends.

  1. Seeing Haener's career disintegrate to such a low is painful. Utterly irrelevant and sticking around for no good reason. Dressing like she’s 25 because she can’t accept her age makes it even sadder.
The longer she stays the less chance she’ll be able to salvage whatever bit of respect she has left.

    1. Geeze, kinda brutal. I'm no Haener apologist, but I can't blame her for being on autopilot. Have you heard about KTVU these days? *Everyone's* on autopilot starting with the news director. And I wouldn't say she's dressing like a 25 year old as much as she just has weird taste in clothes. Always has. She dresses that way at home too, judging by her FB page. Puffy sleeves and weird colors.

    2. Heather Holmes is much more polished and professional. She also does great interviews with different people and is low-maintenance.

    3. Heather Holmes is low maintenance? IN WHAT EFFING UNIVERSE? You clearly do NOT work with the dragon lady LOL.

Half-assing it is selfish. She needs to resign. Free up her exorbitant salary. There must be someone on this planet more capable and less dramatic who’ll cost 1/3 her salary and actually show up to work.

    1. You can have an intense brother-sister-type relationship, if both are partnered.

    2. She is. Ibanez is her boy toy.

    3. Intense brother-sister relationship.

Yeah, I’m sure that’s what it is.

    1. Exactly my thought. I guess she has a thing for 5’1” 70 year old seniors hiding out in their basement, I mean ‘Vinyl Room,’ all day.
Kudos to Mark for scoring with her.

  5. I stopped watching KTVU news.
The whole staff is on auto-pilot due to the fact they must drag out only around 3 stories to fill the entire newscast.
The story count is WAY down.
Even spanish station channel 14 does a better job now.
Only Tom Vacar is worth watching but the whole KTVU ship is sinking fast.
It's not Julies fault she must deliver a boring newscast with low story counts.

  6. Mark and the late Leslie were also very close, well for a time, right…until he crossed her. He gets the smart pretty ones. Surprised Heather Holmes isn’t a confidant as well with his smooth vibes.

  7. As I constantly have to remind my students: My first theorem states that gravity cannot be held responsible for people falling in love...

  8. Time for her to hang ‘em up for good. Move to Napa and start her new life with Marky Mark.

  9. Oh Puh-Leeze! Imagining these two hooking up is pure drivel. MI has a nice smile, JH has a nice smile - they smile at each other and where others see Fire, most of us see Smoke and Mirrors. Both of them spend a lot of time falling in love when they look in the mirror.
Vegas odds say 1500-1 they were ever romantic. Both are quite charming, giddy, goofy, and simple

  10. Never thought Haener was really that good. Sommerville was the key and she profited from that. Now that he is gone, she's exposed.

    1. Haener isn’t bad, but I agree she’s nothing special. She’s lasted this long because she’s been willing to play second fiddle and be subservient to her male counterparts, plus she has the Barbie doll look that was expected of anchors when she started behind the desk.
Starting her anchoring career alongside Dennis Richmond was the best thing that could’ve happened to her. Not because she’s great, but because only someone with a meek personality who’s ok being pushed around would survive and even thrive in that situation.
In exchange for being put through the wringer, she was able to boast co-anchoring for several years alongside a highly respected anchor at a highly respected news organization.
