KGO Radio, Circa 1995

KGO at a good time.

  1. That was around the time of deregulation so it was a high point but the start of the demise of radio sadly.

    1. Wasn’t Chris Bjorklund on 7 different buildings at once?

    2. Chris was the best! Real pro, but not a good "politico" and lost a showdown with Finney. Chris also knew her stuff, but couldn't compete with Mr. Rehab buying shots for KGO managers at Grumpy's. Too bad, we all lost money on that one!

    1. Bernie was a great host with monster ratings. You can pretend otherwise( think 15) , but you'd be revising history.

  3. Great hosts, some of the best, excluding the pedophile.

  4. Holy Cow! Some great people here, well with a few exceptions. Like Bernie the Pervert. I still remember listening one day to the business news from Lynn Jimenez. Something went awry and on-the-air, she said, "Son of a bitch!" Back in the 1980s, that was a big deal. Not any more. Radio at its finest. Those days are gone forever.

  8. Dam the old KGO made my day. Used to listen to Gene Burns and the old Ronn all the time. I did agree with his politics but loved Jim Eason too.

  10. Really sad to see KGO demise, I fondly remember looking forward to all those Saturday and Sunday night shows of Bill Wattenburg's open line to the west coast that were thought provoking, educational and entertaining. Just another artifact of the instant gratification mindless internet addiction that dominates todays communication paradigm

  11. I go back to the days of Ira Blue at the Hungry I, before he moved up the hill to the Crown Room. On Saturday nights after 11pm, KGO had a couple of hours of mystery classics. Talk shows on KGO made the day go by quickly! God rest the KGO soul.

  13. If you get rid of Jim Eason you've got to replace him with a competitive talent. Same for Bill Wattenberg, Owen's and the rest. In 2011, the blood bath included the most remarkable set of substandard replacements that the ratings didn't just sink they evaporated and never recovered. The same happened on the news desk. I feel sorry most for the behind the seens people like the board ops. Karen, you rock. Good look and get through this crap.

  14. Fun to see Shann Nix. When I talk about the good old days at KGO, she's the one no one remembers. I was starting to think I made her up. We had some lively debates. Hello Shann, wherever you are, from Babe Stefano!

  15. May the cloud rot in hell, any company that would fire Gene Burns and hire Chip Franklin deserves just that. After the purge I hung on for a little while then sought my entertainment elsewhere, it was kind of like trying to eat a soy bean steak.

  16. I didn't know Tori Campbell was ever on KGO. I only know her from KTVU 2. Meso Dum!
