Ibanez didn't have an affair with Haener --oh, the two were/are very close and he (Mark) trusts her and she trusts him. They developed a core friendship while working at KTVU --close confidants and both somewhat tied to the hip.
But sleeping together? Probably not.
It was Ibanez himself that wanted Julie to do his farewell interview. He opened up and they both said compelling things to one another.
Ibanez' final year at KTVU --a contract year-- was tough and mighty emotional for Mark-- who was fighting for one last extension and Haener, who the Channel 2 bosses gave extra-special treatment, lobbied hard to The Firm to extend Mark. It didn't happen but Haener was there to help out Markie Mark--and he was and is when Julie was fighting her own demons.
Mark made a point of joining Julie for intimate coffees at a nearby Jack London Square deli --they always sat in the back and she wore sun glasses. It wasn't love as much as it was two people helping each other out.
At least in theory. But afterwards? Mere puppy love.
Love means never having to say you're sorry. The two took that to heart.
Haener was the last to leave Ibanez's blowout dinner and powwow last month in Danville and the two had an emotional encounter in a private room. They shared stories and talked about the good times at KTVU when it seemed the core4 (Dennis Richmond, Ibanez, Bill Martin and Haener) would all be together eternally--any thoughts of separation was never ever even considered. It was out of the question to even ponder the notion that they'd all meet fate.
No affair I’m guessing too, she could do better. Gary Radnich for one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for checking in, Gary...
DeleteRadnich? Sure … if Julie is into washed-up, perverted old farts.
DeleteBy the way - you might want to ask yourself where Mark's WIFE was during this phantom meet-up with Julie at his party given that she was at the party and by his side most of the night!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my God, people are allowed to have a work life where the wife isn't tagging along. Grow up.
DeleteThis isn’t high school where boyfriend and girlfriend are joined at the hip day and night. It’s ok if a married couple doesn’t spend every second of every day together :)
DeleteThanks for clarifying this. I’ve seen the recent comments suggesting the two were sleeping together and it just didn’t make sense to me.
ReplyDeleteIt’s important we remember that baseless allegations like this can have severe impacts on peoples families, careers, and reputations.
Julie is obviously dealing with a lot, and fabricating stories about a sexual relationship is akin to kicking a horse when it’s down, or pouring salt into an open wound.
Radnich?
ReplyDeleteAny this is anyone's business...why??? Sigh and sigh again.
ReplyDeleteIf someone isn't interested then they don't need to read the article or engage with it. These people have chosen to be in a job that puts them in the public eye. For better or for worse, that comes with the territory. I, like many others, appreciate these sorts of stories.
DeleteEven if they were sleeping together, it’s no one’s business. Personal and private matters such as that should not become publicized, even if you’re dealing with public figures. Ibanez out a lot of time into KTVU and deserved better than what the channel 2 bosses threw his way. Management there has become a joke and Ibanez is better off retiring than going down with a sinking ship.
ReplyDeleteWhy do grown up adults still use the silly euphemism "sleeping with someone?" Really juvenile.
DeleteWhy is KTVU the only local station that has no consistency whatsoever with its anchors from broadcast to broadcast? You never know whose going to be anchoring a newscast, but you can always bet it'll be someone different than the day before. This isn't just a summertime vacation thing or a one-off here and there. This is a year-round phenomenon.
ReplyDeleteNo other station around here has this issue. None.
Is it because KTVU have far too many newscasts? Is it because the conditions there are so bad that ktvu employees are more likely to call in sick on any given day than to show up for their shift?
It's the latter. Study after study shows that engaged and happy employees show up to work. Those who are checked out, miserable, phoning it in, etc are the ones who find excuses not to be there. What you've described is the telltale sign of a highly demoralized and disengaged workforce.
DeleteHeather Holmes seems to be available at any news cast at anytime. No drama either.
DeleteWRONG Anonymous@1148am! KPIX is about as inconsistent as you can get! Their morning newscast is a revolving door with even an Army LT thrown into serving as a coanchor this past week! This is the girl who almost nobody can even understand, with the way she talks and yet, she was thrown into the anchor chair! And one of the REAL coanchors, was seen doing traffic reports this past week because the regular traffic reporter was out for unknown reasons. While KTVU certainly has problems, they are nothing in comparison to the problems at KPIX. Read the Bay Area's absolute BEST media reporter out there, and you will see.
DeleteYou are really ginning up events into something nefarious but then backing away and saying "nothing to see here!'
ReplyDeleteIt doesn’t take much chum to get the sharks here circling any prey.
DeleteYes and on this day, zero fucks were given. KTVU still sucks and the on-air talent are head cases.Check.
ReplyDeleteWith limited exceptions, why do ktvu prime time anchors leave under strange circumstances and turn into deranged crackpots? Just as we’re beginning to accept that Frank Somerville has lost marbles, now we’re learning Julie Haener isn’t playing with a full deck and has become a certifiable space case.
ReplyDeleteIs this the norm at other stations or is just at ktvu?
Don’t trust Heather she is aiming the 10:00 spot
ReplyDeleteSo it’s bad that someone would dare aspire to advance in their career? LOL
DeleteFrom what I've seen, Mark's marriage is pretty solid...and that his relationship w/Julie is indeed strictly platonic...and that Mark and Ryan (Jule's hubby) get along really well/through their love of all things sports.
ReplyDeleteAlways considered Mark Ibanez a pretty cool dude and a staple at KTVU in terms of sports. Also good taste in music based on his work from home album room anchoring during the pandemic. I knew the writing was on the wall for him when his Point After 49ers show suddenly disappeared last season. Hey, like the song goes ‘Everything Must Change’…The young become the old and unfortunately get cast out for younger, fresher (and in a lot of instances dumber) faces (who they can pay less).
ReplyDeleteSo a familiar friend and real ambassador to the local sports scene was no longer wanted at FOX 2. That’s obvious. It’s also obvious when you have reporters like Jesse Geary doing Sports Wrap that the powers that be don’t really care. Just another reason why FOX 2 is currently circling the bowl ratings wise.
As far as what grown adults do in their private life…That‘a their business. As long as it doesn’t affect their working relationship or is some sort of boss/subordinate coercion issue I could care less. Get your freak on. lol
Julie and Mark are the last of the old school. Sad to see it ending the way it is. But that’s on management. (Paging Amber Eikel.)
Rest In Peace to Leslie Griffth. A solid anchor in KTVU’s glory days. The news landscape has changed so much since her tenure. Not necessarily for the good.
Agree with all you said. Julie could’ve left on a high note but at this point she’ll be lucky if she could save face and exit without her reputation being completely decimated.
DeleteIt must be especially difficult for her as an aging woman in a visual medium that has lost 90% of its relevance. Before I can imagine she couldn’t go anywhere without being treated like a celebrity. Now, she’s just another rich old lady trying to act hot, which is a dime a dozen where she lives.
I just can’t picture mark and julie rolling around in the sack, or mark bouncing Julie up and down on long dong silver.
ReplyDeleteDid they rendezvous in the condo parking lot next to ktvu like other anchors are known to have done?
ReplyDeleteAnd THAT’S THE SPORTING LIFE. In the good old days, you could convince a coworker that another “coworker liked them”. Then you would tell the other that the original “coworker liked them”. The fuse was lit. The goofy smiles were exchanged. The flame began to get past the smoking stage.
ReplyDeleteWe all have an ego that wants folks to like us. Luckily that ego allows us to become fools for love.
And THAT’s the Sporting Life !!
For what it's worth, I was at a vogueish Walnut Creek restaurant for lunch today and a table of four "ladies who lunch" were talking about Julie and Mark and they seemed to think the two were "doin' it." I didn't recognize any of the ladies (I used to work at KTVU) so I don't know where they're getting their information.
ReplyDeleteMale-female couples who have been through "combat" together can have tight bonds without having sex. If circumstances were different, maybe they would have had sex, and that fact can be enough to keep a friendship energized.
ReplyDeleteEnough of nut case Haener. Where is Mibach who has been off all week as well as Senior who was supposed to be his replacement as the Mornings on 2 anchor with Gassy? What did the firm do to them? They have Christian Kafton, a reporter, as 10:00 anchor tonight with Cristina Rendon. Is there a 10:00 anchor mix they have not tried? Pathetic.
ReplyDeleteI don’t care if they’re screwing each other or not. I just hope ktvu gives julie a pink slip and puts an end to her narcissistic shitshow.
ReplyDeleteJulie had a good run but it’s time she pack up and move on. The industry has evolved and she hasn’t. Now she’s just another Botox-injected old geezer standing in the way of anchors who are much more competent than she is. The days of the big bad anchorwoman are long gone. She’s irreverent, overpaid, and not worth all the childish dramatics.
ReplyDeletePlease, no Mike Mibach. 🤮
ReplyDeleteNot that it's anyone's business but if it looks like a duck, acts like a duck, waddles like a duck... They've gone to Pound Town!
ReplyDeleteIn most other major cities, Radnich’s ‘one trick pony’ style with his snappy patter and Don Rickles put downs would have been flushed after a few years. It’s amazing that a guy who relied mainly on bubbly happy chatter and wise cracks, and seemed to care less about sports lasted so long. As far as Ibanez went; his fake smile and lame closing line, ( “ that’s the sporting life!) were annoying. Unlike Radnich however, at least Ibanez pretended to be interested in sports and seemed to know a few things about the games and athletes he covered. But Jan Hutchins, Bob Fouts, Pete Liebengood and even Wayne Walker were a lot more credible. I guess Radnich and Ibanez were perfect for the bay area’s front running, mostly casual fans.
