You know what I've discovered --ironically--about writing this blog? Honesty. You see through the bullshit on an everyday basis. You discover your real friends and your fake friends. You understand the people that genuinely give a damn, about everything and not just media blogs--people that really do care and understand your various issues and try to help; not that they're obligated but they see a bigger picture and they act upon it. To borrow a phrase, "they get it."
I know most of you come here to read about media--and I'l get to that later, bear with me.
Professionally, this is what I love doing. The blog has become a BIG deal now, for better or worse. I understand I've done some bad in addition to the good, but dammit, it's a blog, nothing else. It's also written with a great degree of humor and tongue-and-cheek. Most of you get it, some of you don't. I've always said I'm not the NY Times--this is pretty much intended for entertainment purposes. And to that extent, it thrives and entertains. That's not to say I don't aim to break a few stories every now and then, but entertainment is the key.Women, don't hate me --media or civilian--because I'm not your problem. Look out over the country and you'll see your real enemies. Rich Lieberman and 415 Media are not hostile, maybe a tad opionionated but hardly anathema to your interests. Take most of what you read here with a grain of salt.
Or don't. It's your call.
I talked about honesty. I have probabaly lost a lot of friends recently because I've become too honest. That's cool because in my heart of hearts, I've been real. I've never tried to hurt anyone unless they try to hurt me. I'm consistent. And I think you all know that. My worst attribute is also my greatest strength: it's the reason(s) you come here because you appreciate realness, vulnerability, and sincerity, even if at times, it's displayed with a lot of flaws. I never said I was a boy scout. I never tried to be anything, anyone more important that I already am. It's ME you get here for better or worse.
I don't want to be sanctimonius. This is a blog --that's all it is. You don't have to always agree with my takes --in fact, I encourage debate. You want to get personal, not cool, unless you ID yourself like I DO, each and every day. That's the rules. I'm not censoring anything other than those attacks against me or my family. You wanna rip me, go ahead but have the stones to be public about it and not hide behind a computer and be a coward. I have no time for that Neither would you.
My blog is meant to entertain and inform and yes, rip and be critical. Lord knows I have ample material to perform such manuvers.
I write this blog every day. Report. Comment. Observe. Make fun. Rip with vigor and critique. Women, men, white, black, brown, yellow, purple, tan, beige --nobody is unique and everyone is targeted regardless of age, race, sexual orintation and gender.
One last thing: I'm a site that is 100% READER-SUPPORTED. So if you like or hate this blog, I ask you to make a contribution so you can make sure there's a 415 Media everyday.
Never apologize for your opinion. To quote Winston Churchill." You have enemies? Good. That means you stood up for something, sometime in your life".
ReplyDeleteI ask same question over and over, maybe one of your haters will answer. If they dont like what you write, why keep coming back? This isnt Russia or N Korea. IGNORE your blog!! Swipe whichever way meama not interested!! Not complicated.
ReplyDeleteCouldn’t the same be asked why all the haters here keep watching newscasters they’re always putting down?
DeleteLarge Vinny,
ReplyDeleteYou can count me as a longtime reader that's fully in your corner. Most of what I say on here is tongue in cheek as well. Cans, hitting it. All in good fun. We appreciate the blog more than you know.
Keep on chugging along Rich. Long time reader since KGO Radio went haywire. How many years has that been now?
ReplyDeleteI love you Rich save for beating up on Ronn, Gary, etc. seems like the more successful someone is the more you do it. Also love hearing about memories of your mom but you know as well as i do, she'd want you to be strong in her memory. STOP feeling sorry for yourself.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteHi, Rich, I read, respond and contribute $ to you. For some reason, I am unable to post with my name so the posts are anonymous. You hit the 🎯.
ReplyDeleteIf you spent less time thinking about yourself, you'd be a better person and a happier one.
ReplyDeleteJust keep chugging along like you have been many years. This blog can be entertaining or be the first to break a store about a station, or talk about your mum and how you miss her so much.
ReplyDeleteThis blog is unique and you don't answer to corporate bosses who would dictate what you say. Keep up do what you love to do!
Who is this Don Bastida at KCBS you mention from time to
ReplyDeleteTime? Someone says he now hired all of the sports on-air talent there. I know KCBS is doing what all local stations are doing and hiring inexperienced, cheap announcers so that the corporate suits back East and beam proudly about a fat bottom line, but why is Bastida in charge of hiring sports talent? Isn’t that the job of a news director? I notice that traffic reporters have been doing sports since Steve Bitker retired last year. That sounds really tacky and unprofessional. Is KPIX TV anchor Ken Bastida related to Don Bastida? Maybe Ken helped get him that job? Any idea where he came from?
