Generally not a big fan of cutting other composer's works, but Lenny trims the middle section of this piece and in my opinion greatly improves it. Gershwin was a great melodist, but he had problems with structure in larger forms. This is my favorite performance of RiB.
That's a beautiful symphony. It's not as easy to play the piano parts as some may think. You need not only the correct melody and tempo, but you need to bring that energy, lightness and bravura to the playing as well, otherwise, it's just not the Rhapsody.
Ira Blue , theme song, “Rhapsody in Blue”. Broadcast from the Hungry i However not the first local talk show on KGO... I think Les Crane holds that distinction -Question- who will be the last KGO (local) talk radio host? Amazing that KSFO has more than double the ratings that KGO has. Both stations kept alive by cleaning out the bank accounts of gulible seniors with advertisers like Laser Fund-Doug Andrews... and Fruit and Veggie capsule fraud Balance of Nature. Neither company comes close to passing Michael Finny's stink-test
As a long time listener of KGO Radio I would like to see John Rothmann be the last talk show host. He is a native San Franciscan, he has a longer history with KGO and he probably knew Ira Blue and Les Crane.

ReplyDeleteIt's not a symphony. Technically it's a rhapsody for piano and orchestra. But at least you didn't call it a "song," which a Millennial would.
