Damon Bruce is an Entertaining Sports-Talk Radio Figure (95.7 FM "The Game") Even If He's an Arrogant Schmuck

I DON'T CARE FOR Damon Bruce. He's a blowhard schmuck in my book. An overbearing putz who berates and belittles his critics, including moi.

That being said, do I listen to the PM talker on the all-sports FM 95.7 "The Game?"

I do.

I can and will always listen to good radio and Bruce delivers on pretty much a chock-full diet of sports-talk radio food: he's ocasionally funny. He can broadcast original content and he isn't afraid to challenge and take on unpopular opinions. He certainly moves the needle.

But he crosses the line way too many times for my taste. Bruce always wants everybody to knoiw he's the smartest man in the room when he isn't but even if he was, he ought just shut up (every now and then) and let his words germinate. It could do a lot for his takes--make them sound more enlightening and profound.

But Damon has an ego.

Instead of allowing his words and opinions to take shape, he insists on over-talking and shouting, as if that will ad emphasis to what he said but his thirst for attention supercedes his original takes and it often blurs his cogent points, many of which could be compelling and interesting.

Bruce, nonetheless, at least is consistent and although an arrogant, befuddling toad, worthy of your time on sports-talk radio.

    1. He thinks he’s funny when he sprays liquid ass in McDonald’s and films the reactions. Disgusting.

  2. Don't all of these talking heads have egos? What separates the schmucks from the pack is how they treat producers and listeners. Ralph Barbieri had a huge ego and an air about him. Bobbie Fitzgerald was the same way, except worse, which comes as no surprise about Rudy Poohay.

as if that will ad [add] emphasis...
    You are welcome

    He’s an arrogant d-nozzle.

  7. How do any of these sports talk clowns have egos? If anything they should be embarrassed...they talk about shit other people did on stations no one listens to and are almost invariably obnoxious, unlikeable douchebags...one or two steps above used car salesmen in my book.

  8. I remember when KNBR paired him up with Gary Radich. What a nightmare that was. Gary let callers have their say and Bruce would go off on them. If I'm not mistaken they were married for a nano second and Bruce was gone. He sucks!!!

  9. Damon Bruce was banned from the Giants clubhouse in 2012. He was taking creep shots of players wives and girlfriends with wet clothes from the champagne. He published the photos on Twitter. He’s a knob.

  10. KNBR's biggest mistake was pairing him with Gary Radnich. Damon tried to take over the show but Gary wouldn't let that happen. The pairing didn't last long. Admit it, Rich ... you really miss Gary.

    1. Didn’t it last 1 day and Radnich stopped showing up?

    2. @4:36- The show lasted a couple of weeks. Gary went on vacation and actually stayed on vacation until Damon was replaced by Larry Krueger. I don't think Gary was going to work for KNBR again until Damon wasn't his co-host anymore.

Around that time, Gary was flirting with 95.7 and was contemplating making the switch from KNBR to 95.7. Not sure if Gary would've made that type of a move, but it was clear early on that the Gary-Damon pairing unfortunately wasn't going to work. I understood the idea behind the pairing, but at the time, they both were very different and they both had strong personalities.

  13. Given the current knob situation on the SFG pre and postgame shows, te estoy hablando, Carrrrlos Ramirez and that insipid SummerSuck day crew (everybody else is alright) makes Damon Bruce look like Aristotle.

    1. Don’t insult DBruce by comparing him to those cable access tv wannabes at nbc sports Bay Area. He’s got some intelligence. They… do… not.

    2. Carmen Kiew is not "alright". She's the worst! That stupid "Wendy's Spicy Hot Nuggets" take is just a commerical. When they're on the air, it's like a cable access sports wannabe show. Good grief!

  16. A lot of these talk-show hosts and media members have enormous egos. They foolishly believe they’re as important as players and owners. Dolts and bores.

  17. When Bruce was first hired at KNBR back in 2005, he walked in and immediately acted as he were the greatest thing in broadcasting. He also pissed off Lee Hammer which was certainly to be expected, Hammer was, and still is a mental midget who sucked up to that repulsive toad Tony Salvador. But Bruce also immediately fashioned himself as some sort of Bay Area sports icon and actually wrote a book about Bay Area sports, a subject he knew little about at the time. Probably sold ten copies to blind people. The epitome of arrogance. Bruce was later demoted from KNBR to KNBR 1050, or as it was known at the time- ‘The Ticket.’ Their ratings were even worse than 95.7. Hammer made the move because the 2 of them HATED each other and Bruce absolutely refused to go along with Hammer’s directives and openly mocked the poor fool regularly. Salvador liked Damon, ( he was the one who hired him,) and Damon knew it, so he continued to boldly needle and berate Hammer. But like a small, petulant child, Hammer got all flustered and told Bruce that he
would not tolerate anyone questioning his embarrassingly stupid moves. Damon LOVED pissing off Hammer and Salvador privately laughed and mocked Hammer as well. Salvador was a real piece of work. His favorite whipping boy was Bob Agnew, a Decent, hard working guy who Salvador treated like dreck before finally throwing the guy out in the street, as Salvador used him as the fall guy in the Larry Krueger/Felipe Alou fiasco. In fact, Salvador was the person who lit the fuse to that hot mess, ordering Krueger to savage Alou on the air to “ store it up!” ’ Bruce has a big ego and is arrogant but he’s a saint compared to Salvador and ten times smarter than the dimwit Lee Hanner who continues to run the ‘Cumulus Cluster.’ Lee Hammer has outlived just about everybody at KNBR because he probably has plenty of dirt he can use for ammunition on any and all of KNBR!: and KGO’s employees.

    1. Bob Agnew WAS not a decent hard working guy. He was an evil man and a first class prick. Hated Mike Schumann. Also, the "Little General" Agnew (he was like 5'5) played golf with Mr. Fitzgerald (Yes Bob's dad) when he was the mayor of Foster City and got Bobby fired by Agnew as a favor. No one liked Bob Agnew or Fitzgerald. Tony Salvadore was a misogynist who was banging half the office (mostly the sales office) while cheating on his wife. SCUMBAGS! All of them....

  18. What a cesspool of egos and schmucks. It sure makes for sticky gossip though. I need to take a shower after being exposed to this crap. But I'll be back to read more.

  19. Not a Bruce fan, but at least one can listen to him, as opposed to Paulie Mac, who is a complete clown show.

  20. Interesting that some one just wrote: “I need to take a shower.” That’s what someone said when they spent a few minutes taking with that lizard Salvador. Creepy dude.

  21. Damon Bruce is a small fish in an empty Lake Merced. He is irrelevant and most teams in the Bay Area don't want him around after the wet t-shirts pics of the WAGS in the locker room. Creep! Also, intelligent leaders know when to be quiet and not "claim" to be the smartest person in the room. Horrible sports knowledge just like Bobby Fitzgerald.I interned/weekend producer at KNBR in the early to mid 90s. Fitz would run to Bob Agnew and tell on the producers ALL THE TIME like a little beyotch. He also got Greg Papa fired and sucked up to the Warriors brass to get the play by play job. He is not liked by the organization but people feel sorry for him because his wife died of cancer. It's well known he would not have a job with the Warriors if that hadn't happened.

  22. Speaking of Bay Area Sports hacks... Carmen Kiew!!! It just shows how hard up NBC Sports Bay Area is for "talent" with the peanuts they pay people to be on-air. Nobody knows who theses people are! She claims to have excellent knowledge about baseball but that's not true. Just listener to her! I watched her on the Sunday pre-game show and she's having Brandon Belt answer a quiz by raising a Capt. Belt flag. WTF? Bad tv. Carmen go back to Twitter before you get laid off and stop playing sports journalist. Because you ain't one and your knowledge of baseball history SUCKS! Do better NBC Sports Bay Area. You guys are hemmoraging viewers from cable as it is. If no one watches the games (and they aren't! Just look at the ratings), do you really exist?

  23. Interesting take by 1:12. He calls Bob Agnew “evil” and said he hated Mike Schuman. Agnew was NOT evil but he sometimes had to make unpopular moves that were dictated by the sleazy worm named Tony Salvador who was the longtime GM of KNBR. It you want to savage anyone, Salvador, not Agnew is the one. He’s the one, NOT Agnew who hired Fitzgerald after ‘fatty Fitz’ had his dad invite Tony to play golf in an effort to convince him to hire Fitzie.
No one at KNBR liked Fitz to begin with. He was, ( and still is,) a hypocritical, smarmy, disengenuous backstabber who knifed Greg Papa to steal away the Warriors’ TV job. Now anyone watching the Warriors on TV grinds their teeth having to listen to Fitz’s pompous noise and nonsense. Most do as I do and turn down the sound. What a relief it is when the playoffs start and we’re spared Fitzie’s musings! As far as Agnew “hating Mike Schuman,” that is half true. Agnew did not hate Schuman personally, he just got frustrated with Schuman’s on-air work and his terrible work ethic abd resented the fact that Salvador overruled Agnew’s choice of John Shrader instead of Schuman. Schuman sucked up to the reptilian Salvador as did Fatty Fitz to get the morning Spirts gig. But Schuman was one of the laziest people who ever worked at KNBR. Finally, let’s call Salvador what he truly was; a bullying, slimy snake who delighted in humiliating his employees and who NEVER got blamed for the Larry Krueger/Felipe Alou fiasco when he was actually the one who orchestrated that hot mess. But KNBR is no better off with Lee Hammer running the show. For all of his faults, Salvador at least understood the radio business. Hammer is a supreme nitwit. Of course, other stations in the Bay Area have equally incompetent management types, such as the clueless news director Jennifer Seelig at KCBS and the ditzy Amber Eikel of KTVU.

  24. What's the difference between and nitwit and a supreme nitwit?

    ReplyDelete
  25. It’s all a matter of interpretation. It’s purely subjective. Lee Hammer is a ‘supreme’ nitwit. Jennifer Seibel is simply a regular nitwit. Eikel? Probably somewhere in between..

  26. That sums it up perfectly
