Bay Area TV News Anchors Look Pretty Sad

THE LOOK IS BAD

I've never seen such HORRIBLE and poorly-dressed TV News anchors here in the Bay Area--men and women alike. I thought LA was the worst until I saw the Bay Area and there's no contest, SF leads the pack.

The women don't know how to dress and the men look like slobs.

It's a crisis and it needs to be shaped up.

  1. Remember Christine Craft? She always looked like a "lady"

    1. Not sure why, but she hates being called a "lady" actually. Guessing she sees herself as some sort of rebel. I will stay away from tthe debate as to her looks, but personality wise she's "ugly"

  2. It would help if these stations had clothing allowances and wardrobe consultants like they used to. NONE do here anymore. And MAKEUP ARTISTS!! A minuscule expense that makes your people look SO MUCH better. If a GM were smart they'd bring that back. Their people would look more professional no doubt.

GM may have no choice. Orders like that usually come from corporate. And it's worse than that. They've taken out things like the coffee machines too. Saves maybe $500 a year! But those corporate trips to Tahoe where they FLY--those are still on! $500 is a lot of money. $10,000...not so much.

  3. Heather Holmes usually dresses like she's going clubbing right after the news and Julie Haener's style resembles a kindergarten teacher's circa 1983. And when I'm watching André Senior I always feel like he's going to pop out out of his suit if he takes just one deep breath. Bill Martin looks like Bill Nye the Science Guy only without the bow tie. And Roberta...well, let's not go there. See-through dresses with Spanx underneath is not a good look for anyone, let along a pushing-60, puffy-faced grandmother.

    1. I like Julie Haener's style but her age is really showing. It looks like she's aged 15 years in the past couple years. At least her botox is mild and not ridiculous like Robotera Gonzalez.

    2. Heather Holmes is very professional looking.

    3. I agree with 8:39am. Julie used to be very attractive but age caught up to her quickly. Now she looks like a grandma who thinks she's still 'got it.'

  4. Indeed! Gasia, Julie, Pam Cook, Rosemary, ROBERTA (My eyes! My eyes!) all need help dressing better. However I think Heather Holmes and Jessica Aguirre have a nice sense of style. Jessica needs to lay off the Botox and plastic surgery though.

    1. You mean Rosemary and Roberta need to layoff the Botox. Geesh. Just look sad.

    2. @12:06. Agee on Jessica Aguirre. Those lips are a little on the big size.

    3. Rosemary makes me think of a caller to the Jim Rome Show... "Giddy up horse face! Neigh!!!!" Again...who pays her as a fashion designer? Ladies, does anyone really buy her clothes? Have you seen the price on her clothes online?

    4. Does Rosemary actually design clothes or does she just give people suggestions on how to dress? Didn’t know she has her own clothing line but the prices on her website as astronomical. I guess she’s thinking people will pay more to dress like her.

  5. Jess has never had plastic surgery or Botox. Take a look at the video on YouTube when she was anchoring as a fill-in in Miami 30 years ago. She looked the same. The only thing that's changed is father time which can accentuate things that weren't as prominent 30 years earlier.

    1. What? It was so obvious when Jessica Aguirre got the facelift. Suddenly she looked like the Joker.

  6. As Rich wrote:

*Eric Thomas returned to the KCBS anchor chair Tuesday morning with co-anchor, Melissa Culross, and the latest wack-a-mole anchor policy was in full effect at the shambles factory that used to be a news powerhouse. Mediocrity? Hell no, abject FAILURE is the mantra at KCBS.

    I agree 1000%

Would it help to call KCBS or CBS to let them know what is going on at that station?

    1. Yeah, like calling the station and complaining will help. The intern at the other end of the phone will record and play it back at lunch for laughs. What world are you living in?

    2. Intern? It's probably just a machine at this point.

  7. Sneakers don’t look good with a suit. Comfortable yes but not good unless the camera doesn’t show your feet.

  8. Holding my breath for another Elizabeth Cook in her puffy Pirate blouse sighting...

    1. I was in France and Germany recently. Their morning personalities often wear leather--miniskirts, blouses, jackets, bralets, pants, over-the-knee boots, you name it. Yes, the standard of living in Europe *is* higher!

      Delete
    2. In Europe, the people are not as Puritanical as older white Americans (the people that run the stations)...so sexieness is more open in society... look at the Spanish stations here.

  9. I’m all for that crown act but Ama Daetz hair be out of control sometimes.

Jessica Aguirre’s lisp seems to get worse.

Rosemary Orozco needs to add more concealer sometimes because those eye bags are not cutting it.

Thank god someone told Gasia to color her hair. The roots were terrible.

    Claudine Wong always looks tired.

  10. Will people please give Sara Donchey some credit ???? ….the lady is beautiful and dresses quite nice …..she can read the news as good as anyone else

    1. Well, she's better than the morning blonde with the dayglo teeth who likes to walk her dogs on the beach but other than that...meh.

    2. Aren’t you supposed to be working, Sara?

  11. Yeah, let's not forget that appearances are always more important than substance. It's all about the clothes. I guess it's a good thing we can't see the people who are on the radio or all of us beautiful people and fashion designers could trash them too. I wish we could all be more shallow and superficial.

  12. The worst dresser award has to go to Pam Cook. She never wears anything that flatters her, instead she always looks all frumpy and dumpy. It’s embarrassing. Someone at ktvu needs to make an executive decision and tell Pam no more full body stand up shots until she starts wearing outfits that actually look half ways decent on her.

    1. Maybe Rosemary could give her some tips as a personal fashion consultant? Lol = P (Most people won't get this joke!)

      Delete
  13. And Sal “The Bone-crusher” Castaneda gives Pam Cook a run for her money. Half the time he wears pants that are 4-6” too long, so it’s all bunched up at his shoes.

  14. Anyone here get tired of looking at Bay Area anchors, come down where I am and get a load of Salinas-Monterey-market newscasts. You will be glad to go back. SF /OAK /SJ has taken the lead from LA in news-anchor plastic surgery, because, after retirements and buyouts, so many personalities there are newer and younger and don't need it yet.

  15. For the amount of money that I am sure some of them make they do look terrible. The ones on Channel 4 are really bad. Channel 2 isn't much better. They could all use a stylist to help them with their wardrobe. We live in the Bay Area and who can't find nice clothes in San Francisco.

  16. Steve Paulson needs to update his wardrobe. His suits look oversized, his ties and shirts are outdated and he sounds so boring and tired when reporting the weather. I tune him out since I have to strain to hear his monotone voice report the weather. I also change the channel when Sal is acting like an anchor. It’s an embarrassment the way Gasia dresses. Her clothes are cheaply made and it shows. I think Claudia Wong and Gasia needs to refresh their wardrobe every season. I’m pretty sure they can afford it. Let’s not forget the women who dress nicely: Heather Holmes, Christina Rendon, Dion Lim, Sara Donchey, Amanda Starrantino, Jessica Aquirre, Darya Folsom, Lt. Burke and Rosemary Orozco. It’s obvious they spend money on their wardrobes. Can someone tell Reyna on KRON to stop moving her head so much, it’s very distracting. Dan Ashley please do something with your hair. It’s atrocious and not very professional looking for tv. Bill Martin please stop wearing your khaki pants on tv, they show wrinkles in the most unflattering of places and why are you always at home broadcasting the news? If you’re not interested in going into the studio then quit! Paul Hagen please save your casual shoes for after work. It’s time to get big boy shoes. Try British tan or black to go with your suits. The casual shoes make you look dumpy. Also, get your trousers tapered, they’re very baggy.

  17. Women are not that bad, but should copy Julie H. of Channel 2. As for the men, are should improve and get rid of those white rim shoes!!! No tennis shoes go with a business suit.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Someone needs to tell Reyna to get a better wig. The one she is wearing is terrible. Pam Moore looks like she got a custom made wig and it looks good on her.

  19. A few days ago Sal Castaneda had a jacket on that looked like something Buck Henry would have asked for in "Ricardo Montalban style" in a John Belushi SNL "Samurai Tailor"" skit. It looked like some velour kind of thing. Or maybe Comcast is messing up my TV picture.

  20. My favorite is still Julie Haener, but...
-the wardrobe styling is varied, from great to not great. I agree with that school-teacher comment when it's the worst, but when it's great, it's great.

-I am annoyed with her not keeping up with the Sun-Thurs attendance.

For some of the men, I don't like the tight-suit-look as there's zero room for changes should a guy gain a few pounds. I think it could be ok if either a person maintains one's weight or has someone to constantly have a tailor on retainer. The full body scenes/shots also disclose whether the shoes/socks/pants go with the jacket/shirt/tie; sometimes they don't complement well.

I've only seen Amanda Starrantino of KPIX a very few times, but she's looked very good. Her height to weight ratio seems spot on.

I've previously already commented negatively regarding Roberta G. Maybe she's working on her weight but I know it can be a long hard-to-achieve process and it may take a year or two, if successful. Good luck to her if she's trying (I wouldn't know if she's trying to lose weight) as TV is a visual medium.

    1. say what you will about Roberta but at least she hustles and works, unlike Bill “Mumbles” Martin who would rather hide in his basement with his cat than show up to work.
Everyone can see that he and Julie Haener are checked out. Both need to just quit already instead of continuing to bankrupt ktvu with their astronomical salaries.

  21. I agree with what 2:47pm says about Roberta and Bill. I also think Roberta needs to have a make up artist find a flattering look for her. Her make up looks so heavy, too much of everything, same with Gasia, too much eye make up, I’m happy to see Allie Rasmus is using less mascara.

  22. Sara Donchey? Can she please go back to Texas ASAP? Her diction is horrible! My son says she's a "Valley Girl Bimbo". Her clothes are ridiculous....cue the picture of Feb 7th camouflage dress. Shes over the hill for the drag queen make-up. Can't tolerate her and have quit watching anything with her name attached to it.

  23. Totally agree on the wardrobe!

  24. My husband and I have started referring to her as Raunchy Donchey. Please!!! The news stations need to consider hiring a stylist to help dress these news anchors.

  25. Stylists & Make up, please report first thing tomorrow to all Bay Area stations!

  26. Really enjoy reading these comments they are on target! Some dress like they're on their on way to a nightclub when they are cast is over others just need help wigs make up clothing? And they make enough money to improve all those things!
