KRON Keeps Justine Waldman Happy; Moves Emerging Anchor To Weekend Nights/6 PM Time Slot

Justine Waldman is a happy camper, sort of...
The up-and-coming anchor has been lifted out of weekend wilderness to a more prime (if you can say that) 6 PM newscast (weekends), at KRON's increasingly lenghtened news platforms.

I'm glad they listened to me.

It's a good move by KRON to keep Waldman and prevent her from possibly leaving not only the station, but other outlets in the Bay Area. An outside market would have been a tough call for the Boston native--she's married to fellow KRON anchor, Grant Lodes. Plus, the couple has young kids.

Waldman is not extraordinary by any means, but she's solidly good, a B average news anchor who is steady, reliable, and has an east-coast edge. While her leaving wouldn't have set the world on fire, retaining her is good news for KRON, a significant, preemtive move by GM, Jim Rose, who obviously is thinking long-term because of a lingering uncertainty involving Pam Moore.

Moore has hinted (privately) to friends she may retire. So far, nothing has transpired.

But Waldman, an emerging presence not only at 900 Front, but the Bay Area in general, could be considered for consideration at 5 and 6, 11 PM too.

6PM weekend is hardly primetime but given the 24-hour news cycle, it's better than Saturday/Sunday early morning and KRON is supposedly going to spend a lot of dough to promote it.

  1. Congrats to Justine Waldman. A well deserve promotion for her @ KRON tv. A curious wonder tho is what happen to Jonathon McCall? Did he leave the station and went somewhere else?

  2. KRON can spend all it wants promoting its 3pm newscast but as long as they keep using that poorly lit set in the newsroom instead of the studio set, it's not going to mean much. You can get away with using that set for internet streaming on KRON ON but it's woefully inadequate for TV broadcast. Heck even the Weekend AM broadcasts use the real studio.

  4. Every time I try to watch KRON via ROKU their app is not clear as to which link leads to LIVE news. Their stupid app is always running the infomercials and then random news stories pop up but it’s never clear whether what I’m watching is live? I bet I’m not the only one frustrated. By comparison KTVU and KNTV are clear as to their live news links. Come on man! Btw congrats to Waldman. I always enjoy her an la her hubby on the new year broadcast even when they tongue kiss live on tv

  6. Justine Walman and her Hus be and Great Lodes are great reporters. I also think that JR Stone is also a great reporter. Bitten line is that KRON has always had great reporters.

  7. Well deserved! I think Justine deserves a national network spot. She’s outgrown local news.
