The Fake Sincerity of Weekend Mornings on Two; KTVU Boo

PHONY. FAKE. DISINGENUOUS.

Those are just three of the first things that come to mind while watching the INSUFFERABLE "MO2" (Mornings on Two) on KTVU. Talk about a show that has NO CHEMISTRY and zero flow. You'd have to be a real nut case to watch this weekend inferno that has all the sincerity of a Hayward 7-11.

For starters, all three of the main characters; woeful Frank Mallicoat; insecure and thoroughly inadequate, Rosemary Orozco; smile-challenged, Claudine Wong, all HATE EACH other. The laughs and phony giggles, fake as they are, do NO JUSTICE to a program that is supposed to play off personality and conviction. The only conviction here is "guilty" of mass incompetence and deceit. An assault on the senses of Bay Area viewers.

What a TOTAL ABOMINATION.

Mallicoat, a Bay Area TV retread offers nothing to the table. His wimpish delivery fraught with fake sincerity is a constant irritant, like a third-grade teacher lecturing his students to make sure they finish their homework. Mallicoat has all the warmth of a Castro Valley donut shop.

Boo!

Then there's eternal yenta, Claudine Wong, who has supposedly become more focused and pertinent reading the teleprompter, how so I still can't see it. Oh yeah, Wong has discovered the art of smiling every other decade. Claudine, you're just profound.

Boo!

Finally, there's that thought-provoking weather journalist, the insecure one who has just recorded her record-breaking TRILLIONTH Sefie on Instagram, Rosemary Orozco, a lady who oozes love, warmth, and sincerity.

Boo!

  1. i've noticed the same thing about lack of flow and also an unacceptable number of gaffes on frank's part. the disingenuous chit-chat and lack of chemistry, however, is what makes it utterly unwatchable for me. like any workplace, you're gonna have people and personalities who get along and others who don't. That's not specific to the firm. But when your job requires being on camera for hours at a time with your colleagues you think they'd take the whole chemistry and flow thing a bit more seriously. if they're not going to put effort into the show, then why should i put effort into watching? for this reason i've switched over to nbc bay area. all of their shows blow the firm away with writing, flow, and chemistry between on air talent. Not to mention, the people that they put on air, unlike the firm, seem competent and qualified.

Management tells them to do this horseshit. It's even permeated the national news now. I can imagine the likes of Peter Jennings and David Brinkley puking.

    2. Disingenuous chit-chat is the perfect way to describe it. Take this morning for example: a reporter did a live shot from a dia de los muertos low rider festival in east Oakland, after which Frank Mallicoat suggested that he and Claudine should go check it out today. A low rider festival in a predominantly Hispanic part of east Oakland is the last place I picture these two people who clearly can’t even stand each other. Seriously, STFU.

  2. I've never under the reason for all the selfies especially as a meteorologist. We all know what she look likes by now. After the 304,927th selfie it became obvious that her apparent vanity and constant need for attention is really just a cover for her blazing insecurity. It's sad to see this on public display.

  3. Personally, I think Frank M is the most down to earth reader on KTVU and wouldn't mind seeing him take over for the other Frank.

    1. Agreed -- I liked Frank when he was on KPIX and I still do.

    2. Another vote for Frank Mallicoat. I think he's one of the best talents in the Bay Area. Steady, engaging and always professional behind the desk and in the field.

  4. I like Frank. Claudine seems bossy. But Frank is easy to watch in my opinion.

  5. As a 35 year+ resident of Castro Valley, I must inform you that our donut shops are noted for their warmth! Seriously, I think Frank is competent and could thrive in the right environment. As for RoseMary and Claudine...meh!

  6. Alex Savidge is the logical replacement for Frank if they stay In house. He’s great at what he does and primed for prime time. Replace Julie Haener with Cristina Rendon while they’re at it. That’ll be a huge step in the right direction.

  7. This house is beyond reparable. The foundation has eroded and nothing good will come of it. Let it burn to the ground and take all of those self serving narcissists to go up in flames with it.

    KTVU. Is dead.

  8. i agree with the person who mentioned frank mallicoat constantly making gaffes. it seems like he can't get through a single story with mispronouncing words and skipping over key words. in those rare instances when he doesn't botch a story, you almost get the sense that he's proud of himself. Is it that hard to find a white man to sit there and read off a screen?

    1. They had someone like that, and they let him walk (or take BART) over to 900 Front Street. That would be Ken Wayne. I have no idea if he'd have any interest in coming back, or how much it would take to lure him home to KTVU. While they're at it, they could find out what Diane Dwyer's doing these days. Cristina Rendon seems genuine on camera and I'm glad to see her back after maternity leave, but how long do you guess it will take for the manglement geniuses to destroy her reputation too?

    2. There are plenty of white men (and women) who can do things far better than plenty of the people of color who are on the air. The problem is they are not people of color. That's Kyla's beef. She didn't know she was just being brought in as a filler until they got a person of color to do the weather. The problem is, they still haven't found one, so Bill Martin is continuing to mumble his way through each night.

    3. There are plenty of white men and women who are not better than people of color and they stay there because of it. They can't have too many people of color on one new cast. Just one token person.

    4. Under their new regime, KTVU has made it quite clear that they no longer hire caucasians, and if they do it's a one-off for a non-prominent role just to be able to say they technically still hire whites. Think Kyla Grogan who was doomed from the start. If she was black, Mexican, or anything else she would've been made the face of KTVU weather and Bill Martin would've had transitioned out already. If Rosemary was liked and hadn't destroyed her reputation she would be the logical choice as a hispanic female. People like Heather Holmes, Frank Mallicoat and Julie Haener are relics from the past, and from the old regime. They will not be replaced by another white person unless its an internal transfer from within KTVU, which feels that one of the ways to hopefully revive their brand and appeal to a wider audience is to have faces that more closely resemble that of the community. I work in local broadcast media (not at ktvu) and this is a crossroads that all local tv stations are at.

  9. I wish they'd bring in some people with energy who actually want to be there. Listening to Claudine mumble expressionless feels like I'm watching Rain Man.

  10. Claudine voice sounds like your mean elementary teacher grinning her teeth when talking.

  11. Mr Lieberman: Amanda Quintana on KTVU. Your thoughts? Thank you.

  12. Why is everyone so angry? I actually like watching KTVU 2 on the weekends. They all seem like sweet people? I don't get the real hostility from people commenting. Do you know these people? If so, then say what your gripe is against them.

    1. Angry? People are just expressing their opinions as far as I can see. Just because someone doesn't have a favorable opinion of the three stooges that does not mean they are angry or have been angered. learn to accept others opinions, even if they differ from your own :)

  13. Attention desperate, smile-impaired, and Malliprop. Yep, Rich covered all the bases. But no East Bay 24/7s or donut shop metaphors were necessary.

    1. You may not like them but please show some basic respect and refer to them by their real names. They are Frank Mallipoop, Claudine Ding-Dong and Posemary Fecesco.

  14. I totally disagree with your comparison of Frank Mallicoat with a Castro Valley Donut Shop. Obviously, you've never been to Ridge Donuts. The staff is friendly and the donuts (especially the chocolate buttermilk bars) are fantastic!

  15. There is no need to watching mornings on 2 on the weekends because they basically rerun stories that they ran on Thursday and Friday, and then rerun them again on Monday. So all you’re missing by not watching on weekends are the three stooges.

  16. Claudine definitely could be improved by actually looking like she isnt miserable, aka smiling, at least a little bit. The guy working for near minimum wage at my local wendys drive thru has a more pleasant deamenor.

  17. Not to mention disheveled 5 o'clock shadow sal who brings new meaning to the word stiff

  18. 5:14 - How do you know that Kyla Grogan left KTVU because she white is and management wanted a POC? Can Rich verify this? Bill Martin is awful. Kyla is knowledgeable, can read the teleprompter and personable on air.

  19. Kyla left because Bill Martin won't leave and that's all there is to that.
