Audrey Asistio New NBC Bay Area Anchor First Impression

DEAR Audrey Asistio: Welcome back to the Bay Area. I'm sure you're happy. I could be too but this first impression is sort of disappointing.

Could you have just resisted the selfie and instead done a few days of normal anchoring or am I just asking for too much? Other than that, everything is just fine.

  1. Seeing Ms Asistio for the first time on Saturday night was like being struck by a thunder bolt. Mama Mia! Welcome back indeed.

  2. Stop bashing Audrey. I watch her and Maria Medina on CBS 13 Sacramento many years ago and glad this native Bay Area reporter came back for a demoting job on weekends. She was once a full time morning anchor then fled to Boston separating with her daughter and husband working in the medical field for a short time before reuniting and Maria work on weekends. Counting on, she got promoted in Boston while Maria is only a field reporter and should be a main anchor. Glad she came back, strong support, better than watching Dion Lim.

  3. Geez, do you have to be a whiny little girl about everything? She's happy, they're all happy. It won't last long. Let her enjoy it.

  4. They probably have to do this crap. Even PIX's Brian Hackney is in on the selfie game and I don't think he's a selfie kind of guy.

  5. Aubrey is a fresh face to see on local news. She is back home born and raised. Give it time and actually seeing her teaming up with (Terry) McSwinney is pretty intriguing...

  6. I’ll take Audrey any day over the likes of ‘Cid,’ mumblemouth (Claudine Wong), Donny (Reginald Aqui), and that Starantino person. I don’t need the selfies though, they make them seem more juvenile than they already are.

  7. I watched her the other day. Had no idea who she was, but she came off as very competent. Not sure why taking a selfie automatically gets heat from Rich.

    1. Because it's gimmicky. She's suppose to be a journalist. Can you imagine Peter Jennings taking selfies? It comes across as juvenile, like the awkward teenage girl trying to fit in with the cool crowd. Just stop with the selfies. Do your job - report the news. That's it. Pretty simple.

  8. it's amazing how much more credible these people would come across if they simply focused on reporting news and dropped all the gimmicks, selfies, and fake small talk.

  9. I was really impressed with her demeanor and felt like she naturally fit as a co-anchor with Terry McSweeney. I was not aware of her Bay Area roots or that she was an anchor at CBS13 in Sacramento or an anchor in Boston. I do feel that she will do well at NBC Bay Area. Perhaps she eventually will earn a weekday anchor position if Janelle Wang or Jessica Aguirre leave the station.

FWIW, I think social media accounts like Twitter, Disgracebook, Instagram, etc. are a permanent fixture for television and cable news anchors/reporters for Gen X and Gen Y.

  10. It was a lateral move. She was an anchor at WBFS, the NBC O&O in Boston (NBC 10 Boston). I'm sure that when the job opening at NBC Bay Area was posted, she put in for a transfer.
There's probably more people watching her in the Bay Area than in Boston. The NBC station there is usually fourth or fifth in the ratings.
