KTVU Crisis; Mike Mibach Can't Stand Gasia Mikaelian and Shows It in Parking Lot; Pam Cook-Orozco Disconnect; Eikel-Aponte Get No Love from Staff; Saturday Schmooze

SATURDAY SCHMOOZE

IF YOU THINK it's only me that has a LOW OPINION of KTVU's Gasia Mikaelian, think again. Her BIGGEST critic is an anchor that sits across from her, Mike Mibach. And Mibach takes it to, what you might describe, as the EXTREME.

Mibach, I've been told by a reliable station staffer, is so constantly ANNOYED and fed up with Mikaelian's celebrated show-boating on air, he is known to go to the KTVU parking lot after the 9 AM "MO2" (Mornings on Two) and LITERALLY scream and YELL. Literally. Several KTVU staffers have witnessed this and even Mibach himself seems not to care, says one KTVU contact who saw the commotion first hand.

Don't believe the on-air warm and fuzzy images --Mibach cannot stand Gasia and this is proof positive. I'm not a particular Mike Mibach advocate but on The GAAS, we completely AGREE.

*ADD KTVU: Don't invite morning anchor, Pam Cook and Rosemary Orozco to a Halloween party unless you like food fights, so to speak.

*Tension and stress is a common part of life at the office. Nobody would dispute that. It's the work of people high up, a manager, say, to see that and rally the troops. That's why they're hired. To unite and play lovey-dovey and exude confidence to the staff and tell them how important they are to the company. I'm generalizing but the point is made: this is sort of common sense, right?

Wrong, at least at KTVU.

I'm NOT picking on KTVU. They bring it on themselves, which is why the MAJORITY of the staff has NO CONFIDENCE in management. The troops not only DESPISE alleged ND, Amber Eikel and her equally DETESTED assistant, Simone Aponte, they DO NOT RESPECT them (which is worse)--they regard them as amateurs who have virtually NO EXPERIENCE in the TV News- gathering biz. Which is evident at the office every day at KTVU. Staff does their job and then can't wait to leave once their shift ends.

Eikel doesn't have a clue how to interact with her staff and has to FAKE IT when there's a CRISIS as there is now, multiple in fact. KTVU still gets great ratings but that's mostly due to FOX's NFL football package and strong network shows lead-in's. Eikel should send Rupert Murdock extra Christmas cards.

The fact KTVU remains a dominant station is a testament to its bahind-the-scenes staff and NOT a nod for Eikel's news acumen. She has none. KTVU excells IN SPITE of her (Eikel) not because of her. She has LOST THE NEWSROOM and one day soon, that evidence will make its presence. It's why FOX plans to send a management team to KTVU to see what's going on and why there's so much TURBULENCE in the newsroom (and elsewhere).

KTVU is LOSING talent every day. It's beginning to show. And anybody that's good is looking to leave and GO to another station. And if you havem't noticed it already, you soon will.

  1. This makes me like Mike Mibach even more.

  2. Mumia Abu-Jamal, oooops I mean Frank Somerville hasn’t been on in forever and if Rich is to believed, will only be returning to The Firm to turn in his badge and pick up his final paycheck. Why then do his replacements keep saying that they are ‘in tonight for frank?’ Move on.

They don't just do it on a whim. As long as Frank's employed there, it may be a contractual obligation.

  3. Her and Mibach seem to have “on air magic.” Isn’t that all that really matters to us, the viewer and consumer of the content? Everything else is simply gossip. Thanks.

    1. You call their on air performance ‘magic??’ I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you’re either Mike or Gasia. If not, you need to have your head examined asap.

    2. I’m pretty sure that the definition of magic doesn’t include Mike sitting their hostage for an hour and biting his tongue while Gasia pontificates and spouts off all of her antiquated personal opinions.

  4. I can't stand listening to Gasia so that shuts down channel 2 in the morning for me. And what the hell is Pam Cook there for anyway? Can't one of the anchors just read off the same words she parrots? It's not like she has any knowledge of or adds any insights to the financial news.

    1. Pam Cook adds nothing of value to the newscast. As far why she’s still there, it’s simple: she’s over 55 and a female. The Firm knows not to play with fire like that. It’s the same reason Vacar and Rob Roth are still around. All the firm can do is just sit back and wait for them to retire. Plus in Pam’s case, she has a husky figure which ironically probably gives her additional protection.

    2. 4:24, exactly. From an HR perspective Pam Cook is essentially untouchable for the reasons you listed. Dave Clark falls into that category as well, plus he has the additional protective class of race. So sit back and enjoy because these old windbags and geezers aren’t going anywhere other than to the bank, to cash their overinflated paychecks.

  5. Your theory that broadcast managers and news directors are hired to inspire the troops should strike many veterans as way too simplistic. some of the most successful managers nurture various enmities, because doing that can produce in-house competition and better reporting. There is nothing new about this.

  6. I can’t handle more than 5 minutes of Gasia…max. The mere thought of what Mike must have to endure five days a week is beyond horrific. Him screaming in the parking lot or in his car to simply let off steam seems pretty reasonable to me.

  7. If Mike doesn't like working with Gasia and the twins, I'll step in and take his place.I'm sure I'll have no problem finding the magic with her.

  8. KTVU should set up a grandstand in the parking lot and sell tickets.

  9. She's pleasant enough on air, but there are only two reasons why Gasia is there. If you don't believe me, compare the laptops.

  10. Clearly time for the kindergarten to replace the playground supervisors.

  11. Another reason Mibach is turned off by the GAASSS? Think she is a little obsessed about her image, as proven by how she wears her pink top? We don't care what she wears, Mibach definitely doesn't care, but the GAASSS? She is lacking attention at home.

  12. Mibach yelling at someone in a parking lot?? What a little prick, needs a bitch slappin.

  13. The only solution to this problem is to have Mike and Gasia mud wrestle during the Nine.

  14. He should scream out loud on LIVE TV, you %%^%^%$%^$ and then commercial break .

  15. He screams in the parking lot because he knows Gasia would clean his clock and whoop his ass if he ever even thought of raising his voice around her. I’ll put my money on Gasia, first round knock out.

  16. They need to make up already and form a band. I propose the name ‘Mike y Los Cantalupos’

  17. I don't get the Gasia hate. She's a good morning host. Sure she says some dumb things. Name me an anchor (besides Hackney) who doesn't.

She's chirpy, but that's the gig. Worse to me is Mibach, with his perpetual frown and urgent tone of voice. He sounds like he's reporting on the Kennedy assassination when the story is about the opening of a new daycare center.

    1. It’s not hate or hatred. You know how Mike Mibach rubs you the wrong way? Well, Gasia does the same for another segment of viewers. Learn to accept the opinions of others for what they are, simply opinions :)

  18. Put Mibach with Claudine Wong. Two sourpusses, both acting like they're reporting on things that are sooooooooooo important. (Here's a clue, kids: If the story reaches you from the KTVU desk, which is basically a fax machine, it's not!) Real news? Fuggetabahit!

    1. What you refer to as her sourpuss face is actually the face she makes when she tries to act like a serious journalist. Almost like a Peter Jennings or Sam Donaldson type of look. But because Claudine has no journalistic chops, she just ends up looking like a grumpy grouch.

  19. Gasia complains every heat wave that "It's so hot!" & "I don't have air conditioning in my house." Really? You freakin 'grew up in Livermore...allegedly. You know how hot it gets there... You work as a TV news anchor. Shell out the money and buy some H/VAC or STFU about it. We don't feel sorry for you Gasia! Tell your hubby job if money is tough to come by. We don't feel sorry for you. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!

    1. Gasia's 'schtick' is to play up how frugal she is, how she's such a bargain-hunter and how she doesn't spend money on the types of things that others do. Whether intentional or not, when she does this she comes off as 'judge-y,' almost like 'I'm wiser than you because I don't spend my money on such frivolities the way you do.' If she really lives in the Livermore area where summertime temperatures regularly approach and exceed 100 degrees, I have no doubt whatsoever that she has air conditioning. She likely lies about it to maintain her frugal facade.

  20. Gasia would come of as a goody two shoes even by 19th century standards. Is this a schtick or is she really this self righteous and awful in real life? I feel sorry for her kids to have to put up with such a mentally constipated mother.
