SF Radio Ratings for January '21

ONCE AGAIN, KGO can't further evolve.

Happ Days at KOIT (Merry Christmas)

KNBR is mush without sports teams.

95.7 FM The Game is the most irrelevant, nothing station in the market and their 10, 734th "new" morning show is a TOTAL DUD.

Here's the numbers

The s-called beauty contest numbers but telling, nonetheless.

  1. It must be disconcerting for Cumulus execs in Atlanta to see that one of their talk stations, which has no costs other than electricity, is doing much better than the other one, which has a payroll supporting hosts like Nikki, Chip, Pat and Rothmann. At some point, they're going to realize that they'll be money ahead if they fire everybody at KGO and go to 100% syndication like KSFO.

    1. The 12+ numbers have no value to ad buyers or sales people and that’s why they’re free. Stations pay big bucks for the sellable ratings data.

KSFO has plenty of costs including management, audio production, imaging, traffic, continuity, and engineering. That ksfo transmitter site on SF property can’t be cheap.

What you’re also not considering is that syndicated programming costs money in terms of inventory. Local shows retain the majority of ad inventory outside of trade for network affiliation, etc. You have no idea how much those local programs cost to produce and you don’t know salaries. I doubt they’re paying very much these days. On top of all that, the informercials and sports alone would bring in significant revenue.

    2. Ha, ha. When was the last time KSFO sold out its inventory? Probably when Don Sherwood was the morning man.

  3. Get rid of Medora mark chip and the laughing hyena Burkhart. Then I will go back to kgo all day.

  4. How do they really know whose radio is on and what it's tuned to?

    1. It’s extrapolated from sampling. Google “nielsen ppm” and read thru the Wikipedia article.
