The A's comeback repeat World Series win in 73 should have been bigger headlines, at least locally. Except there was one problem. Between Reggie Jackson's two most clutch games for Oakland, there was thing called the Saturday Night Massacre With KRON being an NBC affiliate, and Nightly News covering Richard Nixon's massive firings, that weekend, unfortunately, was less about Jackson, Catfish Hunter, and Ken Holtzman, and more about the Watergate scandal further exploding as covered by then Weekend Nightly News Anchor Garrick Utley.
"5:30" makes sense for a weekend newscast (5:30 p.m.), but "11:30" does not. Did NBC primetime on weekends end at 11:30 p.m. in the mid-1970s? Otherwise, I can't figure out why a KRON newscast regularly would begin at 11:30 p.m.
And, for those who may not know or remember, KRON 4 carried the NBC programming before they lost out to KNTV channel 11.
ReplyDeleteRich,
ReplyDeleteWho is Bob Black the kRON4 business reporter? He usually comes on between 9an - 19:45 am...and he doesn’t know much??
