TODAY ON KNBR, The "TKB" Show (2- 6PM)
Tom tells garden-variety NFL story--Rod (Brooks) follows with customary belly laugh. And more, cackle, cackle.
Larry (Kruger) tries to follow up with Billy Martin story; gets interrupted by Rod.
Rod then goes righteous (always) and Tom (Tolbert) is silent. Krug too because Larry knows the house rules.
Tom tells a story about beer.
Silence.
Don't get me started on Brooks. In 27 years of listening to sports talk, there has never been a guy on the air with less talent than Brooks. His next interesting insight into ANY sport will be his first. His only skill is in carefully and thoughtfully enunciating his takes as if there's actually a profound opinion in there somewhere. But there never is. And he's never worse than when he's goofing around, and he turns all jive-assy and full of "flavor." He sucks up to Tolbert because he knows that if Tolbert had refused to work with him, he'd be working for $17.50 an hour in Toledo, Ohio, on a 1,000 watt station. He's the worst.
ReplyDeleteHe is utterly terrible. He always takes a moment to set the tone, or try and make some grand point and it ALWAYS FALLS FLAT. So BAD.

DeleteWasn't listening today, but did they talk about the story in the Chronicle today (thurs) about the primary SF Giant's owner who last election cycle contributed mega millions to Trump and extreme right wing politicians and organizations?

DeleteTolbert was good with Barbieri, decent with Ratto. Now? Unlistenable. Brooks is a smoocher and Larry a meathead. Will Tolbert leave to 95.7 when contract ends?

DeleteThat show is tragic. Most of the Bay Area sports radio is utterly tragic. But that show is probably the worst of them. Nothing interesting.

ReplyDeleteThat is laughable. The national sports hosts are a joke. They will MAYBE discuss west coast sports 10 minutes every 3 hours. The other time is dedicated to teams 90% of the country couldn't give a shit less about like the Patriots and any NY team. Oh and Lebron. Lebron Lebron Lebron. Tired radio.

ReplyDeleteRod Brooks would be twice as good if he would just stop talking the first time he comes up for air. He always launches into one of his rambling, bland takes, thentakes a deep breath and repeats what he just said using different words: Joe Montana was a great QB, he certainly wasn't a bad QB. He talks more and says less than anyone in the history of KNBR. Also, he should also stop pretending to be a basketball expert. He's a fan, Tom is the expert - leave the analysis to him.
