  1. Scott from Concord here. Two local news related questions: 1. Do you see KPIX starting a 3 PM or 4 PM newscast once Judge Judy ends their new episodes (in May for good)? 2. With KTVU, any odds of anchor changes due to pay cuts??

    1. 1. NO, KPIX will not do a 3 PM newscast, they'll simply add another syndicated show...as for KTVU and pay cuts, yes, strong likelihood, not a matter of if but when.

      Thanks Scott.

    2. A reader months ago posed why KPIX can't join KGO-TV and have a 3:30 East Coast feed for the CBS Evening News. As long as Harvey Levin (founder of TMZ) has his People's Court hour each weekday at 3, PIX is under contract to air the show.
Same thing with KNTV and no East Coast feed NBC Nightly News. Kelly Clarkson's show is scoring like gangbusters, and despite Ellen's recent scandal woes, Ms. DeGeneres still has a large viewership following with NBC affiliates at 4.

  2. Where can one find the latest audience ratings for local radio & TV?

    1. TV, no but the overall SF Radio ratings can be googled. At least the 6plus, the so-called beauty contest numbers.

  3. L-2 San Jose & other. Katie Green recently left KSFO. What were the likely circumstances as to quit/fired/layed-off? Thanks for any heads-up on possible forthcoming personnel changes for 2021. For instance, if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have known Robin Winston had gone back to Los Angeles; I don't watch KRON too often.

Leigh Paynter Martinez. I read she's a "free-lance" reporter. Perhaps you could find out more of her status. I understand there could be timing/budget-issues regarding staffing and employment offers or the individual may possibly choose to stay an independent contractor; or other reasons unknown. Is she even affiliated with a broadcaster right now?

Side-note: I'd like to see more of T. Estacio and A. Rasmus, but that's up to their employers and, perhaps, themselves.

    1. Don't know where Martinez is at but I'm certain Katie Green was let go due to finances, Cumulus is doing a lot of cutting and it owns KSFO so that is that.

    1. Hank Aaron was special. A legend. A great beyond mere baseball so this is way bigger.

    2. His pursuit of Babe Ruth's home run record was almost like Jackie Robinson part2. Except this time most of the country was rooting for him and only a noisy minority of misfits was against him

    3. "The Hammer" grew up in the Jim Crow South and after a 1976 "retirement" he held executive positions with the Braves and TBS into the 2000s ... Always a class act!

    4. Agree with 12:58 and 3:01. Henry Aaron showed his class even when Barry Bonds (illegitimately) surpassed his (Aaron's) home run record.

  5. I find it unusual that on the first full day of the Biden Administration, the Countess was nowhere to be seen on Circle7. But that is okay. The more Dion Lim, the better, and with professional, moderate volume authority, unlike you-know-who.

  6. Hi Rich: What's the latest on KPIX's Perpetually Missing Anchor Veronica Del La Cruz? Is she eventually coming back to work or once her Channel 5 employment contract expires this year KPIX will then decide not to renew it thus VDLC will no longer be at Channel 5. Rich: I Absolutely Love Your Blog! Cary SF

    1. On paper, she should be back but I'm guessing there's too much drama here. I'm guessing she's done at KPIX --just a guess.

    2. Any information is VDLC dealing with depression or working hard to carry another baby with whoever to please her son with siblings?

    3. All private issues that you mention --I'll leave it at that.

  7. R.I.P. Hank Aaron. Met him and got his autograph at a Card / Sports memorabilia show in San Jose back in the mid-1980s, and he couldn't have been nicer. Now for something completely different....I was watching KTVU the other night, and it occurred to me, Rob Roth is a solid reporter. And he has been there forever (or so it seems). I am 58, and I can remember seeing him on TV back when I was in my late teens. He is solid. No gimmicks, no pizzaz, no schtick. Just straight up reporting. And it must have worked for him- otherwise he wouldn't have lasted as long as he has in this market.

  10. Les From Emeryville -

    1. Ae you afraid to listen to KPOO FM 89.5, the best music station in the Bay Area, jazz and blues and no commercials?

    2. I hate to disappoint you but KCBS is pretty good for local news and no need to obsess with the Bunger hate. "Ask an Expert" is a daily to-the-point interview with top pandemic experts without having to listen to an hour of Michael Krasny's sinuses draining and Keith Manconi does a great job on the weekends with "In depth."

    3. KQED FM does a good job with "The California Report" but with $1/2 billion in the bank they should be doing better unless they have plans with their new building. 50 years ago KQED TV had Newsroom created during a SF Chron strike with top-notch reporters circling a roundtable but they've gone downhill since maybe because they're afraid of alienating their rich donors.

    1. Thanks Les, I'll give a listen to KPOO ---I've heard "IN Depth" in the past, great show, but now it's more like a NPR show--I prefer the direst interview as opposed to the background chimes--I too like KCBS for breaking news I've never disputed that.

  14. Something that I haven't seen mentioned before here or elsewhere. Or perhaps no-one else has ever caught on. Amy G, the face of the Giants on television, has a husband that never votes for Barry Bonds induction into the hall of fame. You can search his ballot. How does that reflect on the Giants organization?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Don't mean to step on your toes, Rich. But it should be seen that the HOF is an individual achievement and it is the players accomplishments that reflect whether they should or should not be in the Hall, not a team achievement. There should be no reflection from the Giants organization especially since Barry Bonds is under the cloud of suspicion with regards to his monumental achievement. Also, isn't Amy G a sports journalist for NBC and not an employee of the SF Giants?

    2. Amy is basically the face of the Giants on tv. Let the fans know. Lets see their response.

  15. When will kg o get rid of medoro and thompson? I can listen to kcbs for only so long. Hearing the same story two or three times an hour is too much. I would like to start my morning with kgo, but I just can't.

    1. Don’t hold your breath, they have contracts.

  16. The fastest I’ve moved since being a teenager is when I change the station when Medoro or that self righteous, pseudo-intellectual Chip Franklin come on. It is sad to see hat far KGO has sunk. They took a superior product and commoditized it into mediocrity.

    1. I hear his contract has been renewed for 3 years. He’s willing to shill for ANYONE with money, that is when he’s not busy interrupting his guests in a desperate attempt to sound intelligent. He turned on a dime and went from conservative to woke liberal when he left San Diego. $ure, buddy..

Insecure pseudo-intellectual indeed! He doesn’t do much of any prep for his show and it’s evident. He’s winging it just like an uninformed neighbor shooting the shit. Just listen to how he condescends to Pat. Hustling is how he survives. Just google Kars 4 Kidz fraud.

    2. Chip is a fucking moron. The only ones that listen regularly just like to stay in their echo chamber (for here, in San Diego he was the other echo chamber).

      Delete
    3. Chip has moved back to San Diego and he broadcasts from there, yet “pretends” he’s still local to SF. Someone should call in his show and challenge him on it.
