Larry King Dies--UPDATE: I'll Be Talking about Larry on KSCO --You Can Listen

 REST IN PEACE, LARRY KING

I knew it was any day now and now it is fact.

My good friend and mentor has passed.

Larry King is dead --he died at Cedars Sanai in LA at age 87 due to Covid-19 but Larry was battling several health issues. I'm just hoping he passed peacefully.

Weeks passed when he first entered the hospital and I held hope (as with many others) that Larry would beat the odds and survive.

He was a helluva person. He LOVED the business. He was a giant. He wasn't perfect. Now is the not the time to dwell on that. I will miss him. There was no one, NO ONE, quite ;like Larry King.

UPDATE: 9: 50 AM: I'll be a guest on the KSCO "Saturday Special" this morning from 10: 05 AM until 10: 30 talking about Larry King, from a personal experience, here's the audio link to listen.

  2. Larry was a natural at his job. I recall my wife and I would sit in front of the t.v every night eating our dinner and watch him cover the OJ Simpson case.

  3. OH no... that's very sad. I first started hearing Larry King back when I babysat playback of his show on long-gone KTOB ("At the Top of the Bay...") on weekends back in the 80's.... he was on the "Mutual" (pause) "Radio" (pause) "Network!" (backtimed perfectly to the top of the hour post).

Truly a legend and he will be missed.

  4. I liked his show on CNN, many thought he was too soft on those he interviewed, but he got people no one else did, and he got them to talk without being too aggressive. He interviewed everyone, actors, politicians, comedians, foreign leaders. His show on some of the crime stories were riveting, Scott Peterson case and others come to mind. I remember he interviewed the former King Constantine of Greece, it was a very interesting interview, possible more so for me, because I was born and raised in Denmark and King Constantine married the youngest daughter of King Frederik the 9th in 1964. However, it was the first time I heard a first hand account of what happened when there was a coup and King Constantine and his family had to flee in the middle of the night.

I missed his show when he left CNN, Piers Morgan never quite got off the ground.

    Larry King will be missed.

    1. I was very honored to be one of the 50,000 people he interviewed. He also wrote the forward to one of my books, which certainly didn't hurt sales.

  6. The funniest thing I ever saw on his show was when he had a group of O.J.'s lawyers on as guests, and he said, "Let's take some calls. Orenthal from Los Angeles, you're on with O.J.'s lawyers." And, of course, Orenthal was O.J., but Larry didn't know what when he read the teleprompter.

  7. Another funny thing about King was that he would ask guests odd questions. I remember he had an astronaut on his show one night and King asked him what he thought about the show "Dancing with the Stars." The astronaut looked dumbfounded and admitted he had never seen the show before.

    1. I can count on one hand the number of minutes I've seen DWTS. And the way DWTS screwed Tom Bergeron, probably won't see another minute of it.
King was one of a kind. The only interview he could never get was the Pope (none of the Popes, as a matter of fact).

    1. Are you utterly clueless as to how this virus attacks the lungs, saturating the spongy tissue so profoundly that they can no longer expand? An 86 year old person, with profound comorbidities including cancers and heart problems is easy prey.

  9. Back in the day I used to listen to his radio show it was on KSFO or KFRC.His stories of growing up in New York with his friend Gil Mermelstein (?) were hilarious. Absolute radio gold. A true radio superstar and icon. RIP and the best to his family.

    1. I remember on Mutual they had another talk show I Herb Jepko from Salt Lake City in the 70s I used to listen to. Then Mutual replaced him with Larry was on and rest is history. I still listened to Herb for a few years on KSL.

Larry was a class act talk show host.

  12. Ask anyone who drove a truck in the 1970's. Larry King kept us awake and informed via Mutual Radio. He was the best. Oakland, California...HELLO!

  13. Too many wives and woman issues equal divorce and $$$ issues. Luckily, not too many kids, he probably could have had more than 15.

  14. I met him once when I was working in broadcast tv years years years ago. He was a guest for our morning show. He was definitely full of himself, but he wasn't a jerk about it. I will say though, he definitely can be full of himself because he has the class and the talent to back up that attitude. A pro, a gentleman and a class act. Rest in peace.
