I'm Not Surpried Mayor Breed Gets a Pass from French Laundry Dinnergate; Are You?

California elected officials break COVID-19 rules; dining out after urging others to stay home | NewsNation Now

BY NOW, you've heard a lot about the London Breed dinner earlier last month almost as much as you've heard about the Gavin Newsom dinner---I normally wouldn't make a big deal about both individuals lack of pedigree. And I won't now, to me it's mostly a firm lack of awareness on the two. If anything, they should both be scolded more by stupidity than hypocrisy.

Newsom is still dealing with the fallout and will probably have his White House plans temporarily halted.

Breed, for some reason, has been able to generally get a pass, not just now, but in all her entirety as SF Mayor. I don't know why but she has milked her innate ability to receive royal treatment from the Bay Area Press.

I haven't heard much about the French Laundry party--the Chronicle did a story-- but TV News and radio talk shows largely ignored dinnergate. Maybe Breed's condemnation of herself has enabled the local press to figure she's been punished enough.

Again, from a practical standpoint, the Breed- French Laundry birthday party isn't a big deal; her holier-than-thou pronouncements of Covid-19 protocol to city residents will probably tame a bit.

I'm more surprised she's been given a pass by the press. Wait, maybe surprised is not the word. That would be naïve. After all, this is the Bay Area.

  1. Did you mean 'for' or 'by'? How does stupidity scold someone?

Oh come on. I hope you're teasing. It's the same reason Obama did from the press all over the world. What do London Breed and Obama have in common? Hmmmm.........

I'm no Trumpster, but it's the same reason the media doesn't go after Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton the way they do Trump. Heck, they haven't even rammed Bill Cosby as hard as they have Harvey Weinstein or Ghislaine Maxwell or even Woody Allen—and again, I'm no defender of them, but I do believe fair is fair.

    1. You could not have said it any better. The other thing is that if a TV station did push more of the subject matter on Breed, then you would see their News Vans get thrashed by non-SF residents (who can't vote for Breed to begin with)

    1. London Breed is not part of the media.

    2. KGO Radio covered the Mohammed Nuru case and discussed London Breed's involvement with an investigative reporter. She and Sam Liccardo clearly limit their press availability. Contrast that with Libby Schaaf's weekly interviews on both radio and tv.

  5. In today's world, critisizing anything a non-white person does gets you called a racist by the "woke". It's just easier to give them a free pass.

  6. Newsome is punishing conservative SoCal.
    Breed is an idiot.
Trump won California and all of the swing states.

    The Dems are toast!

    1. Yeah, I didn't get that. His "5" Regions are idiotic. He combines San Diego & Los Angeles but separates Sacramento and San Francisco? And his "Northern California" and "San Joaquin Valley" (combined) have about the tenth of the population of "Southern California" yet they each have their own region? I wonder if there are French Laundry-type restaurants in San Joaquin Valley & Northern California Regions that he wants to check out.

  7. San Francisco politics is less predictable than California politics.

If the City finds a formidable challenger next Mayoral election, who knows if Breed can repeat her victory!

As for the State, as long as the Bay, LA, Sacramento, Monterey, and the North Coast continue to turn out during Gubernatorial elections, even the best GOP candidate will be hard pressed to dethrone Newsom. The bluest part of CA still forgives the governor.

  8. Now I understand why Gavin propose the latest rules, his entire family is in locked down after the French Laundry incident. Why should we pay the price for what Gavin did???

  9. Most California voters are either (1) totally uninformed, (2) dumbshit idealogues, (3) both. Hence ridiculous clowns like Gavin Newsom, who's never had a real job in his life yet fancies himself some kind of progressive genius while the tax paying citizens are a bunch of stupid plebs who need to be told what size soda they're allowed to buy. This state is a fake bullet train wreck and a total fucking joke.

    2. Exactly right. They think they're informed because they listen to NPR, which is about as unbiased as Fox News.

  11. No surprise on London Breed and just think she could also be a possiblity that Breed replaces Harris Senate seat too...

  12. Gruesome's White House dreams were dashed by Biden/Harris's "win". If all goes to her plan she will take over for Biden in 2022 when he decides (is told) he can't continue as President. Then she will run for re-election in '24 and '28. God help us.

The earliest he can try for the White House is 2032. Unless, of course, Harris is defeated in '24 and Gruesome tries in '28.

The French Laundry has no effect on any of his plans. Nobody in the country was more upset about Biden winning than Gruesome was. That ruined everything for him.

I'm willing to bet Trump was. He's still in denial about it.

    1. Good point. Newsom had aspirations of running for POTUS in 2024. Hell, he still may run down the road.

    2. Hillary is still in denial about 2016.

Yeah, L. Ron... that was the basis of my comment. Gavin was setting himself up for 2024. The earliest he can try now is 2032 if Kamala's plan works and Biden steps down in 2022 and she runs for re-election in '24 and '28. If she loses (hopefully) in '24 then Gavin might have a shot in '28. But I think he might have a problem in the country nominating one Liberal Californian after another in successive elections. Basically I think his entire political future was ruined with the Biden win. He might try for a Senate seat and spend the rest of his life there. That's about all he has left.
