KGO Radio Old Friend is Back: ABC News Radio at Top and 30 Past the Hour

Need for More 'Two-Ways' Leads to ABC Radio Shakeup. | Story | insideradio.com

KGO Radio has a familiar partner back at the top of the hour and 30 past: ABC News Radio and its corresponding jingle. It's welcome.

Missed real good anchors like Richard Cantu and national correspondent, Alex Stone.

ABC is back as a result of Westwood One ceasing operations on August 30. I never liked it largely because of its artificial sound and robotic reporters, talk about canned content.

The only wish I have --I would hope KGO would take the full five minute feed from ABC. Currently, it's two minutes and back to the Bay Area/SF studio.  Better than nothing.

  1. You really are the last person I know that tunes into KGO regularly and on purpose. Kudos.

    Hi Rich,

What's your opinion on the new WGN News Nation that's starting today taking on CNN, FOX and MSNBC?

    1. Like the concept only one BIG issue: WGN is owned by Nextstar which owns KRON and that's all you need to know. If they had more corporate broadcast acumen I'd be a believer, not now.

    2. OMG Thanks for the warning.

    3. So this new newscast will be competing with KRON?

      Those guys are smart!

    4. You've seen it and have an opinion already, BEFORE it has even aired???? Glad I'm NOT a Charter Member!!!

  3. That is a good first step forward!

  4. I liked Westwood One news. They called news down the middle. ABC, CNBC, CNN, etc. report as follows "Trump holds rally without masks" as their lead story, then, as a filler "Peaceful Protesters clash with Police in Portland", forgetting building have been looted, burnt or both.

  5. I predicted the return of ABC News back right here when Cumulus announced the closure of its white label news operation. Several other stations who took WWO news have also switched to ABC, a real positive move for the latter, who lost significant national presence back in 2015.

  6. Westwood One used to produce ... "used to.." great life radio concerts and/or musical specials ... "back in the Day" ... which is to say, back in MY day. News radio? Never listened for that. so I'll go with ChrisCraft's comment.
