I WISH I had known about ABC7's Dan Ashley and fellow colleague, Spencer Christian, having a stark conversation about race this morning on KGO . Ashley was doing fill-in work and his guest was the longtime ABC (Good Morning America) and current KGO-TV weather broadcaster.
It was not only frank and pertinent, it was real and genuine. Christian talked about growing up in a small town in Virginia. Ashley was born in North Carolina. He told the audience about Christian having to experience the indignancy of not being able to wash his hands at a white-owned restaurant. Christian elaborated. It was both painful and poignant to listen to. And even more compelling, Ashley and Christian sounded like two guys talking at a local tavern with no falsehood or gimmicky even remotely evident.
In times like today, the idea this conversation took place and was allowed to percolate is a welcome diversion from all the BS we have to put up with --moreover, the Ashley-Christian segment was one of the all-time best in KGO, new and old, history.
I couldn't agree with you more! I thought I was listening to a completely different station this morning! The whole segment was amazing and so genuine. As you said, it was a frank, heartfelt conversation from two individuals who obviously care about this country.

I caught part of the show while I was driving and it was an excellent discussion on race and Christian's experiences in a small Southern town in the 1950's-60's. Two very classy guys.
